Some folks don’t want to learn how to walk, they prefer to run. Unfortunately if they don’t have the building blocks to achieve the ability to run, they’re stuck stumbling. Keep on doing your videos, I don’t even play banjo and still enjoy and learn with each one.

I think many banjo players need more videos like this. This kind of content is rare and valuable. However, you seem to have made one mistake. You teach us that a minor scale consists of the same notes as a major scale, except for a lowered third and seventh. However, THE SIXTH NOTE IS ALSO FLATTENED in a minor scale. What you showed us was a partial melodic minor scale, or simply a minor scale with a sharpened sixth note, which is generally never occurring. Just a small notice for you. I am sure you already knew this, and simply made a small mistake while filming.

You are indeed correct! What I actually showed was a G Dorian scale. Somewhere along the line, I got the bright idea that they were the same. You just taught me something!

Hi, and thanks for replying to me! I literally just got home from the monthly local bluegrass jam 15 minutes ago. Had so much fun as usual. Played banjo, sang some songs and noodled and chopped a little on a mandolin I borrowed from a friend the other day. I have been working as a bluegrass banjoist for two years now in a professional band, and on Sunday I am going to give my first banjo lesson to a student.
Yup, that is correct, it is a Dorian scale. Glad I could teach you something, since I am able to learn so much from you, John. Hope you are happy now that you are free from the stressful car sales job. Where in the US do you live?
All the best to you, mate!

Pan the camera a little lower and just pretend to be George Dubyah Bush. Easy money bud.
