I keep coming back to this video... I'm seriously looking at moving to the Telford area and I'm an avid hiker/walker. I moved recently away from my regular trail that I walked everyday and I'm sorely missing it. The Wrekin would be an amazing daily walk. thankyou Richard for doing all these videos
I went up the Wrekin as a teenager with my late dad & older brother. I still have the photo displayed of us half way up. I walked it again one winter a few years ago & can happly report the views are stunning. I probably will go back again this winter.
When I visit my daughter who lives in Albrighton, I like to travel down the M54 early on a sunny morning. As I progress along the motorway, the Wrekin appears from around a bend just like a sleeping dragon lit up by the rising sun. It is a magnificent sight.
Hey John I love anything to do with walking around the world but I love the fact that they have a lot of people at the wrekin x and I love walking up and down the wrekin it's good experience and fitness levels I'm not saying that you will need good energy levels xx 😅😅😅😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🔛🔛🔛🔝🔝🔝🔝🛐🛐🛐⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️Hey John how are you doing today mate xc
John I hate the hot weather in my country because its not that the bees start coming out and the wasps and tbh I have never ever ever been hurt by a wasp or bee x
Thank you! Your talks have been a great help as well as entertaining. We are visiting Shropshire for a few days break and we have really benefited from your videos. Much appreciated!
Hello! Only just found this video but it's excellent as is your Caer Caradoc one. Love the Wrekin, a familiar landmark from where I live over the border in Staffordshire and travelling out to Shrewsbury.👌
Just discovered your Channel Richard, and enjoying it! All started with Shrewsbury as I searched that after being a Soldier there in 1983/84. Loved your tour of the Town, didnt appreciate the place back then so it was a really interesting video! The Wrekin here we learned our Map reading skills around here!
Hi RV, Excellent vlog, I have been past the Wrekin absolutely loads of times. From being a young lad going to Shrewsbry on a steam train ,train spotting. But I have never climbed it, you have enthused me to do it,thankyou. Regards.
A promising start weather wise but a bit of a cloudy conclusion. It looks like a great place to visit. I didn't realise the Wrekin was a volcanic formation, very interesting. Thanks
It's a pleasure Pete. Well worth a trip up, although it does get quite busy. The Long Mynd is a far better walk in my opinion with fabulous views, but the old hillfort is worth a visit for sure on top of the Wrekin, and it is such a famous landmark.
Been 5 times from Wombourne Bus and Train to Wellington, then walk from Train Station to Summit. Don't think I could do it now due to Chronic Tendonitis. Thank God for Pieces on RUclips
Another great vid Richard! Steep walk but a beautiful one. Sorry the weather changed on you. Loved the history, the story & the poem. And even though you couldnt see a great distance due to the clouds I did enjoy the view of the patchwork fields below!
Oh what a shame re the weather. You must return as the views are stunning. You can see for miles. You must visit Clee Hill. Clent. Ludlow too if you ever return. You'd love Shropshire. Lots of villages & churches.
In the mid-1960s, I drove a Short Wheel Base Land Rover, towing a 1 tonne Diesel Generator, up a narrow track, not unlike the one you started on - to the Transmitting Station (both Radio and TV) for Outside Broadcast comms links which we used to establish several times a year... Probably one of the most challenging drives we ever did, except perhaps up to the radio station above Swansea.
Your still slim enough boy.!!!!!!!. The tale of the giant also says he emptied is shoes . That is said to of created the Ercall and Primrose hill. The two smaller hills either side of the Wrekin. Good interesting videos. I enjoyed the Battlefields video. Never been there but worked at the Battlefield enterprise park in its construction. Thanks for your work.
I’m really enjoying this channel.Richard is an engaging presenter and the picture quality is superb. For me the content is as enjoyable as Adam the woo but very British(which is great).
Nice scenery nonetheless. It reminded me of some of the places along the Camino de Santiago in Galicia, northern Spain. Both in terms of the greenery and the overcast, somewhat threatening weather. I would certainly want to come visit that location if ever I get up to that part of the UK
If we walk the Wrekin we usually take a left at the fence just where you met the jogger. A bit steeper but a more direct route to the top. We sometimes take a small picnic and sit on the rocks looking over towards Wenlock Edge.
I'd be very interested to see you do a video ascending the Wrekin from the south side (start near Neves Castle and follow paths going north east), one word: STEEP!
I stay near to Wrekin; during the pandemic time, gyms were closed, so this is the only place of exercise for us. Every day, we generally go to the top of Wrekin, stroll there and enjoy the view.
About other hills that I did, I went up Ragleth Hill in Stretton. It was beautiful there. There was a summit pole, and we bought a little picnic up there. (By the way, about the weather on the Wrekin, we chose a worse day.
In the Black country, a common expression is, "Going all around the Wrekin." It's applied to people who don't come to the point and instead ramble on aimlessly. It's because the Wrekin is very large, not particularly steep hill, so it covers a huge area and going all around its base would be a journey of many miles.
Hi Richard, how long do you think it would take the average oldie like me to walk to the top and and back down again? Thank you in advance for your help.
BTW, I made different channel and i'm on this one, I was basically funny felines, but it was actually Thomas who wrote Roger the Cat who is typing this!
Richard, did you think you could hurt yourself? it is not bad first aid to take. you can watch this vlog, which says a lot: ruclips.net/video/elZ_pXFgNK0/видео.html

I am up and down the M54 all the time and when I see the Wrekin I know I am nearly at Harriet's house in Shrewsbury.
I live in Telford when I come back off holiday when I see the Wrekin in the distance I know I'm nearly home

This is wonderful, shame the weather closed-in but still wonderful to see the walk and the views. Thank you.

Thanks so much Terry. Welcome aboard. I must go back to Shropshire and explore more when the restrictions are over.

Oh you must - although it does get busy at times because it is quite popular. Have fun and thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching Simon - another for your list. One a sunny day the views are fabulous.
Hi Richard another great & informative vid, I have walked the long mynd a few times but never the Wrekin. Thanks for that. Pete.

I went up the Wrekin when I was on an a level geography field trip to Shrewsbury - it’s a hard Hill to climb! Thanks for the video!
Oh it is easy, Matthew. There is a metalled road to follow. :)
Too many flies this time of the year. Spoils the fun
Mmm that's areal magical walk.
Thanks very much
Calm down 🔞

Maybe next I shall! If I am feeling brave! Thanks.

Oh plenty of jolly hills to climb in the Shropshire county - you should come over. You are always welcome! :)

Sounds like a challenge!
I go up the ercall most the time now the ercall is much harder cause of the steepness i love the ercall as its more quiet and more steep
I must get up there too!
I stay near to Wrekin; during the pandemic time, gyms were closed, so this is the only place of exercise for us. Every day, we generally go to the top of Wrekin, stroll there and enjoy the view.
Fairs i went up and down 3 Times yesterday in 100 mins its good for fitness
"There may be a giant lurking nearby"
He's in Wonderland, in Telford town park 😂
About other hills that I did, I went up Ragleth Hill in Stretton. It was beautiful there. There was a summit pole, and we bought a little picnic up there. (By the way, about the weather on the Wrekin, we chose a worse day.
It's been grim weather recently!

A journey that I must take, going around the thing!
Hi Richard, how long do you think it would take the average oldie like me to walk to the top and and back down again? Thank you in advance for your help.
About 20-40 minutes I imagine.
A new sub! Great idea for a channel
Thanks so much

Julio Tijuana Lol! Very good. You made me laugh, Julio!
Anyone know how long it takes to walk up from the car park? Thanks
About 40 minutes
By the way, is it possible to do one in Bromfield Estate?
I am looking into that actually!
Enjoyed the video, what a fabulous walk! How did you fare coming back?
It's not a difficult walk really.

Richard, did you think you could hurt yourself? it is not bad first aid to take. you can watch this vlog, which says a lot: ruclips.net/video/elZ_pXFgNK0/видео.html
Yes - it makes a lot of sense. Always handy to have some first aid with you.
Not least in case of injury from falling acorns. Kudos for mentioning both Tacitus and Edward Lear in the same video.
