Supposedly it was terrifying to the enemy! BW would shoot them down at night and they never saw it coming. To have a radar on board was an absolute game changer, first of its kind!
The pilots all had to be the best to be able to fly the P-61, it was very hard to fly at night with limited visibility and mostly using Instruments to to do what they had to do! It was badass! Unfortunately
I think it just was too late to come out to make an impact.

@@eligabledog4758 it gives you an estimate as to where the enemy aircraft will be. I also think it gives a buff to the turret gunner. My gunner has taken out people that i dive onto quite regularly

@PhlyDaily, you can disable the auto-pilot for gunner/bomb sight in the options, should have done that for the gunner- action.

The plane is great for dog fighting and taking out bombers. I've had my best RB games with this one, went to the skies and picked out bombers with a shit ton of ammo left. Did a 180 from the enemy spawn, came flying down at 700km/h and all I had to do was shoot short bursts. I flew past the entire enemy team while I picked 3-4 fighters with ease, those who kept on chasing me ended up getting sprayed by the four 50.cals and I managed to get some more kills. Best game I've ever had so far.

First time I flew out in my P-61 I got into a rolling scissors with a 109 and in the middle of the second or third turn my gunner pilot sniped the 109. Best moment ever!
The Black Widow was specifically designed by Northrop for nighttime combat.
It’s power plants are as follows: 2x state of the art Pratt and Whitney R2800 Double Wasp 18-Cylinder Radial Engines.
Armament: 4x .50 Caliber MGs and 4x 20mm Cannons.

Very often the .50s were not fitted. The first turrets had issues, and they were also needed for the B-29.

They're called spoilerons not "air brake airlerons" lmao and tons of modern and old aircraft use them. They allow for asymmetric roll control.

New game mode idea
entrenchment
team A is stuck in an urban area surrounded by rural areas where team B is.
Team B gets unlimited respawns and team a gets limited spawns
in order to prevent camping if the capturing team has 3 tanks for every 1 defending tank inside the town the defenders will automatically be forced to surrender or have a timer and when the timer runs out the game ends
the teams would play two games
who ever holds the city/objective in said city the longest wins
this game would be mixed with airforce ground and sea as the game could be played in a port town or have a river going through a city and the boats could gain positions where there team could respawn instead allowing the tanks to get back into battle faster.

The P-61 was basically if a p-37 and b-25 had a child. It has the landing gear, engines and fuselage of a b-25, yet it is designed like a p-37. and its armed to the teeth like most us planes.
People may say that the tactic of sitting 1Km below a bomber is cheap but, well it kinda is but it’s players making use of the great weapon systems and not putting themselves in a more dangerous situation behind a bomber

Fun fact: those spoilerons you mentioned early in the video made the Black Widow exceptionally maneuverable at low speeds. The combination of a massive wing, powerful engines, and massive control surfaces ensured that more than one single-engine fighter got the surprise of its life when the going got slow.

**ITS THE BIGGIEST**
P-61 was the first plane designed from inception to be a night fighter. With 4 50 cal and 4 20mm it also had the heaviest frontal attack of any WW2 aircraft that I know of.

I think they are called spoilers - airbrakes try to increase drag without decreasing lift, spoilers try to decrease lift and increase drag as well. They use them on modern airliners on landings, they are used to "dump" lift on landing, and they are also used for roll control.
Žiga Auer on a plane that uses spoilers as ailerons, like the P-61, SO.8000, or A-4 Skyhawk, they're often called spoilerons.

I played RB with P39 once and OPFOR had 2 BV's.
We managed to kill one and somehow almost all of my team died and the other guy who didn't was rearming some 20 clicks away. It was all up to me; P39 vs BV238; both of us out of ammo, well, he was out of bombs. Were he to rearm, he'd be so high that neither of us would be able to get him and he would destroy our base.
I did what a true hero would do, going full speed I rammed that whale right in his tail, destroying his elevator and damaging the rudder. As I was falling down in my parachute I enjoyed the view of BV238 spiralling out of control and crashing at his runway.

P-61 with that B-29 turret is how the Scraghe Musik (spelling?) system on the Do 217 should have been. Imagine a rotatable quad 20mm with the ability to elevate super high on the Do 217 or something.

I love the P61 Blackwidow, fighter pilots don't expect the 4 . 50 cals on the roof (which has two gunners controlling the single turret, so you can keep fighting after losing one) , and it's a head on monster. Not to mention it being fast af and having air brakes. She's a bit fussy about her flaps though, they're huge and even combat flaps give a lot of lift.
something that I found helps you can tap your aileron controls after you flip and you can have a complete 360° firing arc with those turrets

B-52 uses spoilers as ailerons as well. The civilian Mitsubishi MU-2 does as well (horrible safety record though). The problem with the design is it makes the aircraft near unresponsive to roll input at low speeds (mostly landing)
I love this plane and the P-38. Its design is different and it feels like something very special. It does not matter that I do not maneuver as a light fighter.

Before the buff I once emptied a full round of cannnon and the gunners .50s till it jammed and the whale didn’t die, now you can sometimes do it in 3 or 4 bullets lol

Me playing another bomber, flying with 2 258s: -single fighter of any nation one-taps my tail off, and one taps the 258’s wings in a single pass-
Loving your vids, helped me a lot in learning how to RB in WT. Also, of note on this vid, the "Air Brake Ailerons" are called Spoilers, and WT actually did them backwards. They "Spoil" the lift and cause the wing to stall out and drop. Some modern passenger jets use them as well, minimally for turns, usually on landing, they pop them as soon as the wheels touch and they go to full reverse thrust, because they have to land at a high enough speed that if they lose an engine they won't twist. This is called V2 (Velocity 2), V1 (Velocity 1) being stall speed. That said, when you are touching down at 120-180 knots, killing the lift on the wings is vital for keeping the plane on the ground. Using them in turns was as far as I can find on a quick look, mostly small bush planes and P-61 Black Widows.
Bombers (especially the BV) are laughably easy to kill from below by using the P-61’s turrets as Schrage Musik, as Phly showed in the intro.

I recently unlocked the P61C Black Widow and I saw this video, tried it out and it works so well. Me264s and BV238s are so easy to kill. It's so much safer than using the 20mm Hispanos for killing bombers.

They should put the P-61B version in. The "B" model didn't have the rear crewman so the CG was farther forward making it faster and more agile. The B also didn't have the movable turret and instead had the 4 12.7mm guns boresighted with the 20mm guns.
In case you were curious, the "airbrake ailerons" are called "roll spoilers" - and yeah, they'll help you roll like a boss

The MAAM (Mid-Atlantic Air Museum) has been restoring a P-61 for something like 25 years. It was a brand new aircraft when crashed in New Gineau. Will be the only flying example, hopefully soon, and when it does I"m going!!

No matter how broken something is, and how bad I feel using it against any other plane, when it comes to bombers and BV 238s especially I will use it without a second thought

It is called "Black Widow" as in a night fighter. I have seen several different photos of this aircraft. In every example the aircraft is painted black, except here, fighting in the daytime.
