- To mark the sad occasion of the funeral of Dame Vera Lynn this week, a special video was created showing the lyrics to her most famous song, We’ll Meet Again, and was projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover, the landmark most famously associated with her.
“I feel very honoured to have my mother's image on the White Cliffs of Dover, which is so closely associated with her, and I know that she would definitely feel the same.”
- Dame Vera Lynn’s daughter, Virginia Lewis-Jones

@@ilenpaem2762it’s a metaphor, I think
You know how people say “over the rainbow”? It’s like that. Instead of saying “death”.
@@Yurar__ More of a euphemism. A euphemism is a word used in place of another word to tone down a harsh word. In the original comment, "see her old friends again" is a euphemism for "die".
Her voice sounds so smooth and calming and it makes me comfortable ☺️
You have to check out her other songs like, Wishing will make it so, White Cliffs of Dover, When I grow too old to Dream, Auf Wiedersehe'n Sweetheart, You will never know, Lili Marlene, Berkeley Square, Yours, I'll be seeing you. And many more. She is true angel.

We'll Miss You Vera Lynn... I may have never had the honor of meeting her, and my closest connection to ww2 was my grandpa who I also never got to meet, but there was always something so beautiful yet haunting about this song. Haunting may not be the right word, but whenever I hear it, I think of a generation, the greatest generation, one that is arguably one of the biggest reasons any of us enjoy the comforts and freedom that we do today. I could talk all day about this, but i'll keep it short. This. This is a lovely lovely song. A song that I've never stopped listening to since the first time I heard it many years ago. And I never plan to ever stop. There may only be a few of the greatest generation around today, but there will never be a few alive in our hearts. They will live on, through stories like the ones I've heard of my grandpa, and also through amazing songs like these. Thank you Vera Lynn, and thank you to the greatest generation.
Amen to that

Rest in Peace Vera, the glory and solidarity you brought our nation was honourable. I know your music will forever continue to motivate us through the darkest of times, always bringing your spark to enlighten us. You helped hundreds of thousands with your lyrics, God bless you Vera Lynn
A song that reflects the indomitable spirit of the British in the face of the darkest trials. It's the light at the end of the tunnel. It's spirit never fades away, for humanity was meant to survive and live. Death is not for us. We are predestined to immortality.
As a person who's country is being attacked, who's friends are far, far away from sirens that wake you up in the morning, who understood their mortality too soon, this song makes me tear up every time. I am full of fear and sorrow, yet of hope. This song feels like a warm sunbeam on your face on a cloudy day, drying tears on your cheeks.

3rd year now since she was lost, Rest In Peace Vera Lynn :’)
This song was played at my nan's funeral. She used to watch the blitz on ports down hill in Portsmouth, lighting up the night sky. Portsmouth was completely flattened. Her dad was forced to go into a bunker which he refused to go in, and it was blown up with a direct bomb. Things were terrible back then, but the people were strong. This song kinda represents that. She loved this song and so do I.
Hitler made several underestimates
He underestimated the will of The British People
He underestimated the Russian's will
He declared war on The US
And finally he blew his own brains out when the game was up
History will remember him as we do. A failure and a coward
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song
We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know

PF was actually what made me discover this beautiful song years ago. That and Dr. Strangelove. Two of my favorite things. It was no coincidence, this song is a masterpiece. Almost nothing ever makes me cry. But dammit, I tear up almost every time I hear it.
The reference in the Wall exposes the haunting nature of the song. Almost like it was an empty promise. Or maybe she meant something deeper and Pink is too cynical to see it.

This song means a lot to me right now. I know this likely won't be seen. But I've had three deaths in my family over the past three weeks. My grandmother Lisha Hart, My grandfather Randal James, and my great-grandmother Elizibeth Ratliff. And I've found myself humming this song a lot recently. I've listened to this when I've felt sad about their deaths. So here's hoping, we'll meet again someday.
