  • This is lower timing explained for the ka24de engine.
    In my case, I have JWT cam gears, 8.6/1 cp pistons, crower v3 cams etc...so there will be some adjustments I need to make. This is just the factory base to start from.

    If you guys go to 240sxtechdvds org, you can find Factory service manuals. Probably for FWD applications too. The FSM shows exactly everything you need to know. Note: my engine is RWD, so the dizzy is located in a completely different area of the head. Yours is probably at the back I'm guessing?

    Hey bruce did you ever find a complete video on this I'm in the same spot. Just got my cylinder head from the shop (350.00 rrgh) getting ready to install new Timing chains. 1998 Nissan Altima. What a project if I new the valves were shot I would have just bought a new motor but Ive already gotten this far. LOL!

    hi Bruce, can you help me set the timing of the Nissan ND23 engine in order to start? the injection pump don't have a timing mark so its hard for me to set the correct timing corresponds to the crankshaft. waiting for your response.

    Hi, I noticed how you have your head gasket, is not cmplete with the oil pump cover. I have a 99 nissan sentral GA16DE 1.6L- I am getting ready to put the head gasket. Can I put it and torque it without putting the oil pump cover so I could set up the timing chaing correctly? Please let me know. Thanks.

    • @walperstyle
      @walperstyle  10 лет назад

      the head gasket isn't all that important outside of the head. You will need something there to stop oil from leaking out of that cover. Just make sure you put some gasket goop or sealer between the upper and lower timing cover.
      ...but regarding your question involving the GA16, I've never worked on one of those, I'm guessing you have an upper and lower timing cover, and its not a big deal to take them off, you just have to scrape off the old gasket material before putting it back on, and make sure you know how to set your timing. The oil pump no doubt only fits one way on the crank, so it shouldn't be a problem figuring out how to put it back. Gives you the ability to re-paint the cover as well :)
      Not sure exactly what you are asking, but hope I have helped.

    I have 240sx and right now I working on timing chain. I set both lower and upper timing chain on tdc on sprocket. Is ok to turn crank shalf cw after installing timing chain? When i turn crank shalf all timing mark on chain doesn't line up with timing Mark. Is this normal?

    • @walperstyle
      @walperstyle  6 лет назад

      1) Never turn over your crank if the cams are also not hooked up, this can cause valves to hit
      that said, I think you know this and are asking about it lining up afterward?
      So yeah, you can turn it by hand afterward to make sure everything is good so long as the upper and lower were hooked up correctly. What you will need to do, Take notes, when you are done playing around with the engine, make sure your piston 1 is back to TDC (marks don't need to line up at this point, but for timing, you need to have the first piston back at TDC, aka highest up it can go) This way when you install you dizzy you will be ok and it won't be out of wack.

      The colored links will only line up with the divets in the sprockets one in every 16 or so crank revolutions.

    where did you get that gasket? the one that goes in-between the upper and lower timing cover.

    I'm about. To do top and bottom timing.. How do install the.. I guess it would be the sprockets on the top and bottom. Do you have any advice???

    • @walperstyle
      @walperstyle  10 лет назад

      Install them the way they should be installed. Its impossible to screw it up. ...well, lets just say, if you have to ask, perhaps you should get someone else to do it.

      The ka24de I'm working on is still in the car! Should I loosen the motor mounts jack the motor up and losses the oil pan just so I can get the gap to pull the cover off?? any tricks to my the job EZr?

    • @walperstyle
      @walperstyle  10 лет назад

      Thats personal preference on what you figure is easier. You will want to remove the front timing cover, and perhaps the oil pan as well just to give yourself some room to play...however, you should check out 240sxtechdvds . Highly reccomend them, as well you can find a FSM on his website.

    what all did you have to remove to get the lower timing chain cover off.

    • @walperstyle
      @walperstyle  8 лет назад

      several bolts, including a couple on the oil pan facing up.... if you have to ask this question, you are spending too much time on the internet and not enough time working on your car.
      Note: don't lose the little gasket between the oil sending unit and the front cover.

  • @walperstyle

    My name is not Bruce. If you are interested in talking to the guy that has been commenting on my Channel, contact him directly. By the sounds of it, he might not be familiar with his engine. If you are interested, get a Factory Service Manual (not haynes) for your car. It shows you everything you need to know.

      When I made this video, there was two different types of material on the forums. It wasn't standardized and if people read both ways of doing it, they would get their counts off and be off a tooth. When you run wild cams, being off a tooth isn't a good thing. So, I simplified the process and I guess enough KA owners out there thanked me. Wish I had sponsors for this though... lol Wasn't expecting this many views.
