Definitely check out their debut. A few other newer post punk bands to check out, from Dublin as well The Murder Capital , from England Shame , from Canada Ought and from Sweden Fews.
I love this video so much , I’m British from london and it sounds very strongly Irish to me to answer your question - one of my favourite bands and favourite records Keep up the videos
You’re right about there being a post punk / post protopunk renaissance happening. In my opinion the best album to come out of it is Wide Awake by Parquet Courts which I think also nicely tackles the point you made in the final minute about realistic optimism and pessimism.
I love how you compared his singing style on 'living in America' to Johnny Rotten because the singing on that track sticks out to me too but I told everyone he sounds like Iggy Pop, but Johnny Rotten also makes sense. Also, you really should review Idles, they're coming out with their third LP in this September. They are a bit different from Protomartyr and Fontaines though because they have more of a traditional punk tone. Though there is a noise rock aspect to their sound but some of their songs are made up from simple power chords and the frontman of Idles, Joe Talbot has a harsh screaming singing style. They're great though. Also: this third LP of theirs is produced by Kenny Beats, a rap producer so this will be interesting...
Hey, I've been watching your reviews for like half a year now, and I really love them. There is something interesting and calming about the way you talk, and the way you construct your arguments. It feels really personal, and yet so profesional. But I just can't stop thinking about the thing you've mentioned on Run The Jewelers video about RATM. I've been their fan for a really long time, so I just can't imagine how can someone dislike them. I know that you don't do ,,bad reviews" but I would love to hear you talk about them. Of course you can't change my music taste, but I just think that your opinion might teach me something about the way we listen, or interpretate music. Hope you read it, geetings from Poland :)
Thanks for watching! Someday I will go into the RATM thing. I’m quite certain that my strong opinion was formed from a bad place and I look forward to really giving them a real shot.
6:40 I think every member of the band writes the lyrics so I’m glad you said more than one 😂 they all met and bonded over their love of poetry which I think is cool and explains why they have such great lyrics
I've not warmed to Idles in the way I have to Fontaines. Maybe it's that phrase "realistic pessimism". Idles just sound a bit contrived to me in a way that Fontaines don't. And definitely an Irish accent, although I believe the singers mother might have been from Barrow, so she would probably not have what Americans consider a British accent
Last year's album was great! Much less of a mood record, more just fun punk tracks. I like both but think I'll be going back to Dogrel more. Check it out!
Good review, just wonder if all those movies portraying irish people played by Hollywood actors who consistantly murdered the accent(with few rare exceptions)has resulted in an actual irish accent not being seen as such...anyway top o da mornin to ya
life aint always empty, but most of the time is like when we spend time listening to reviews and attempts to label something or determine where it was born instead of listening to the real thing. why explain everything, but as you would say it, 'maybe its an american thing', defining everything, labelling , packaging, selling and buying. post-protopunk has already being patented by... bill gates
Small history of tension ….gah! 800 years of occupation. It’s not problematic that you mistake his accent once, it’s problematic that you’re still doing it towards the end of the review.
Nowhere near a British accent, it's a strong Dublin accent.
Ah, thank you! I’m going to pin this so that it no one else is a dummy like me! 😀
As I fellow brit, I second this.
He grew up in England first, could’ve had an imprint on him. Lots of people compare him to Liam Gallagher from oasis.
@@RichardTongeman He didn't grow up in England he left Barrow when he was a baby to go back to Ireland
Honestly couldn't imagine a more Dublin accent in a rock band! Really reminds me of Mark E Smith though which couldn't be any more English.
I've really enjoyed this album. Much more than Dogrel. So glad you reviewed it.
One of the best bands around IMO.
Definitely check out their debut. A few other newer post punk bands to check out, from Dublin as well The Murder Capital , from England Shame , from Canada Ought

Listened to this album, really enjoyed it, thanks for the review+introduction.
i think Grian has a very very strong Dublin/ Irish accent, and it works VERY well accompanied by the instrumentation... btw great channel!!

Grian has a strong Northside Dublin accent .

Being from Dublin and he is a Dub. Come visit some time.....its a great city.

He has a very Dublin accent. Hes from the same town as me

Hill Sixteen is Dublin ONLY.
Go on the Dubs
The lead singer has a English parent I’m pretty sure, might explain the very British punk aspect to the voice particularly with televised mind
We just run about the houser screaming “telavoisedmoind!”
There is nothing British about his accent. It's 100% Dublin.
Very good review! But surely you mean Perfect day and not Beautiful day? Sorry lol
Wow! Yes, that is what I meant.
alguien busca glory hole

Trust me man he definitely does not have an English accent. Very much Irish very much a Dublin accent
Small history of tension ….gah!
800 years of occupation.

I don't particularly remember this video, but I totally believe that i was too flippant with my treatment of Irish history.
