thanks dad. i was going to buy this for a beginner quad, but i just built my own. with your help, stu from uavfutures, andrew mcneil, andyrc, iforce2d, and project blue jc. you guys are true inspirations.
Great review Bruce. It's always great to get an honest, unbiased point of view. As AvE said on his channel "A shill vid is a shill vid is a shill vid". There are FAR to many reviewers out there giving affiliate link laden positive reviews of below average gear.
I bought a regular wizard in late january. By mid February I replaced the fc that stopped talking to receiver, the vtx which not sure what happened just went out mid flight never to work again, one motor with a bad bearing, all standoffs that were stripped, camera that sucked, stripped leds that shorted on bottom of motors, and had to add a capacitor so the darn thing would not freak from tiny throttle input. Now the only thing left from original is the frame and pdb... BUT, that pos got me into this totally awsome hobby and I can't say I didn't learn anything. I know at least what not to do...
TheBigblock81 I just started flying the original Wizard about two days ago and it's my first 220 sized quad. I'm going to use my time with it to teach me everything I need to know, what to do and what not to do. Once I'm finished I'll move on to something better. Like you, the Wizard is my introduction to mini quads and I'm not looking back.
Sherman G I recommend you look into adding a capacitor so you don't burn out your electronics. This quad is very noisy and I believe it was the cause of most of my problems. At least look into it and learn about it. Happy flying!
TheBigblock81 Yes, thank you. I ordered some caps a few days ago. I hope they arrive soon as the Wizard is very noisy through the goggles. Another part to order is a vtx that doesn't use a right angle connector. I already hit the ground hard and it broke the back top plate of the og Wizard.
Shizzle and schmeck at 4:40 on !! And bad fate all around! Bruce, thanks for giving this thing a reality check and sorting and dispelling any hype from other youtubers about this quad. I've grown a little biased from UAVFutures need to Uppercase every title and seemingly hype many many products though he does try to get an opinion from that grumpy sidekick of his. Anyway I just got one (I'm unable to build my own) since the price was right and I'm pretty happy with my old reliable x220.
Agreed. Far to many 'reviewers' don't have the relevent product design knowledge, get too excited by their new toy or feel like they owe the company (which sent it in for review) something.
Carpenter RickM you just kicked me in my teeth!! I was about to type the same thing as I was watching, I'm at just under 2 mins and got my conclusion lol!
As far as I know, they have changed the Antennas for the flysky mini from 1/4 to 1/5 and that causes the poor reception. People have cut down some of the shielding on the antennas to go from 1/5 to 1/4 again and had a lot more reception!
These Wizard videos have earned my sub and respect! So great to hear all the good and bad about the quad. I'd love to see a video from you with your preferred alternatives to someone who wanted a x220s and why. I'll take a look at the Shuriken X1.
I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed in certain other reviewers of this product. I thought I could trust them but the huge delta between your experience and theirs makes me uneasy.
I have had three X-220's, still have two. They became fairly soon FrankenQuads, as I replaced the FC's with BetaFlight F3's, and the Tx/Rx on a WhiteNoise plate with a TBS Unify and an X4R. The side plates came off on minor crashes and cracks formed around the slots in the top plate. They are now gone as I think they caused more cracking than stiffening on crashes. I have broken three top plates and two bottom plates, and ordered several of the thicker (option) bottom plates from BangGood. I have forgotten how bad the purple supplied props were. Anyway, it is not a bad platform if you replace all the electronics. I now only worry about the top plate weak points. And one recommendation is to peel off the motor labels as they will ultimate start coming off and jam in the motor guards. Grade: B-.
This is currently on offer with Bangggood for just under £95 and I was seriously thinking of buying one even though I'm already a bit over budget(!) so thanks for the review. It's nice to have someone willing to be critical and point out the flaws. I'm yet to get my first quad so robustness is obviously important and as your crash shows, £100 for a carbo-glass fiber frame is too much. And add in the FC problems (Josh Bardwell picked up on that potential issue as well) and I might as well just build my own. Anyway thanks for the review!
Thanks Bruce, looking forward to that Kakute review. Great idea to soft-mount the gyro, but just how durable is that ribbon tape and foam? Hope that JB does a black box video to look at sensors to compare...
Another great, honest, review, thanks. I love how you bring proper engineering knowledge to the subject and explain why something is crap....or good. It would be great if you could do an instructional vid about setting the rates on a quad for nana's like us. I've searched for two days and found two vids on rates, one from a beginner/wannabe racer who i think knows less than me, and one from a racer who is waaaaay better than i will ever be. Everyone is always talking about PID tuning this and PID tuning that but that's pointless if you can't keep the thing in the air for more than 30seconds. I think it was Stew at UAVfutures who who gave the best advice and said he flies everything on stock PIDs, but still nothing about RATES. Please help Bruce.
Really appreciate the honesty on this i was mulling it around, i have two a v-tail 210 i bought with a realacc 210 frame so when i broke it, i could swap parts and add a flight controller LOL still a hell of a deal for parts, I was thinking this might be another candidate. But i cannot see this as a good parts rig to start with. and after watching your review i am sure of it. Anyway thank for the great channel
It so nice to see and listen to such a respected member of the community and always receive an honest review. I purchased the last Wizard and have been flying it for 2 1/2 months, it's still all in one piece, thankfully! It is my first Brushless Quad and two of the bell housings wiggle very slightly, is this a bearing issue? The motors are all screwed down tight... ??????
+RCModelReviews THANKS for the shoutout on my 5S video, Bruce. It's unfortunate that you got one with a bad Flight Controller. But I do think that one component is the cause of most of your flight problems, (besides the blades and antenna which I agree are garbage) Lots of us now have gotten good ones and it is flying great without the issues you experienced. I think you comparing it with the X1 is a GREAT example of this. You got a good X1 and can highly recommend it. But there are tons of videos of people having lots of issues with the ESCs on the X1. The X1 just falls out of the sky over and over for people. But you got a good one. Or replaced the ESCs?
i can say i havent flown the x220 yet because its still in transit and it will be my first race quad but it will be perfect for me with all its ups and down to get the hang of it and learn from it to understand all the aspects better. im jumping into the deep with both feet and give myself a hell of a learning curve but i LOVE the challenge im excited to fly it AND to crash it AND to repair it if ya cant spend tons of money on this hobby then this 1 is a great starter !!!!
So true. Going from the other reviews I started recommending these wizards as decent beginner quads, but that appears to be a rather bad choice. Now I feel bad.
It doesn't fix everything but I just got confirmation that Banggood is having these redone with full carbon arms and will be shipping everyone that bought one new arms.
Bruce, could you do (or ReDo) a video on the pros and cons being a thumber vs a pincher when flying parkflyerplanes, akroplanes, racequads and helicopters? Have thumbers a future in the rc hobby as it seems that pinching is needed to achieve an advanced level of racequad/helicopterflying.
Bruce , a quad you might like to check out (if you haven't already ) is the furibee fuuton 200 I have one , for a cheap quad it's pretty good and very fast. $165.00 US
Bill Balke this is where it's funny. People keep bashing the X220S. But my Fuuton exploded as soon as I plugged in the battery. FC and RX ruined. Unfortunately I hadn't even started recording yet.
I'm looking forward to your Holybro Kakute F4 review. J. Bardwell had some input into it's design and wrote the excellent manual. If it gets a thumbs up from you it'll be my next purchase as I'd like to replace the fight controller in my original Wizard.
Sherman G typed it so many times seems repetitive lol. Ok bought two of their X1's, both focked in one way or another, countless emails, no support, expected me to pay MORE to rectify manufacturing problems, never once received a email back. Spent £500. Fuck them bro, excuse the French.
The FC on the X1 is faulty, it causes all the yaw twitch issues (not the esc's alone)... I just don't trust holybro anymore, especially the FC's and electronics
Seems kind of a noisy quad ;) If you don't want it or want to lend it to me for review and fixing up as well as clearing up the video. That would be great. Love the channel keep it up.
Excellent follow up Bruce... My review wasn't all rainbows and butterflies either lol. As I stated in mine this is a follow up to a very popular quad and as such should be held to higher standards. There's a lot of potential if they had done it right and also step up their QC
No need to justify yourself Bruce - you've done a comprehensive review pointing out the problems that some reviewers failed to even mention! P.S.: Love Stu@UAVfutures but he's done really bad one on this model (((
I mounted the A8S V2 in place of FS-RX2A in my Eachine Racer 130 hoping that I will get better range. NOPE, that RX is just pure c*p. Last week failsafe knocked in 30m from me. I got fed up, thrown away that piece of s*t, put back the FS-RX2A, all problems went away. @RCG some ppl suspect that the issues were caused by missing shielding on the A8S. The RX2A has no shielding, has the same A7105 and has range of cca 120m which is not reduced by higher throttle.
I just got into the hobby tried my first solder today and the tin flux can`t be melted anymore from my pdb? any thoughts? PS: flux got kinda burn with black spots!
Nice review. That I have similar experience with that Omnibus F4, it is really good on paper, but it comes with lot of issues unfortunately. I had 2pcsm booth FCs had short life. And also the point with Wizard hype is that before Wizard there were mostly crappy RTF,ARF,PNP racing quads. Wizard is the first one that is well made for a good price. And it has normal components, not some special overpriced custom components.
Was tempted to buy it after seeing some positive reviews. Kind of disappointed that it was in fact problematic. The original wizard was a good entry quad and was hoping for the same on this one.
what happened to you on your last flight, happened to me and the Original Wizard X220... I cannot find out what has caused Motor 3 to stop intermittently and cause it to fall out of the sky! I've replaced the motor, ESC, wires, and Bardwell has given me an idea of swapping out the signal wire to my Spek output.... but I might just replace the whole Flight controller! it's been in the air for 5 sec... and I hate it! just like your Wizard X220S! and Almost every other Eachine product I've tried except for the E010, which I totally overhauled and should have just bought the frame! but I love your videos! and wanted to say hello.
I bought a Wizard x220 (not s) and it won't even take off. As soon as I try, the quad flips and breakdances. The furthest it's been up is 1m, because I tried to take off from a 1 metre high playroom platform. I'm now waiting for a new FC.
Hi great review what drone do you suggest for about £200 I have a dx6e transmitor I had a syma but it's had its day and I would like something fast strong was going for the x220s but ??? Rtf would be good but if I can save money by using dx6e happy days would still need battery's an receiver
I just got the following email from Banggood: "We would like to inform you that the frame arms of the Eachine Wizard X220S have been upgraded to carbon fiber ones, which are stronger. We will send the carbon fiber frame arms for X220S to you for free. However, this item is currently out of stock and should become available again in 6-9 days. We will arrange the dispatch of your order once the item is restocked." It looks like they are reacting to your review Bruce.
props. try the Racerstar 5048 5x4.8x3 props. tougher and more efficient than the cyclones. more punch too. good for up to 2500kv and will go futher but will load down motots.
i am surprised how poor this performed. i have the original wizard and it is in my limited experience, it is very rugged. i smack it into all kinds of things. i have changed the props, camera, and antena but otherwise it is stock. i was hoping the wizard 2 would be an upgrade but it does not appear so.
Does the original Wizard have true-carbon plates and arms. I have a feeling they may have tried to cut corners on the S version by going cheap on materials -- that is *very* common in the hobby. I've lost track of the number of good Sino products that have been "cheapened" by skimping when a new version is released and the result has been disappointing.
Hello sir, and guys in the comment section. I am a beginner in this hobby, I fly with an hubsan X4 107c and an ARdrone with controller, and Im searching a great QC for accro and racing .. This wizard 220S in France seems good, but the comment's section right there are not enthusiastic about it. Im not a very well english speaker, so my question is, for a beginner, this toy is good or not? And do you have an other one to advice? Thanks
"I'm not a very good English speaker so my question is, for a beginner, is this toy good or not?" I'm also a beginner and after reading lots of reviews I'm going avoid buying this and instead I'm going to build my own. This model has too many issues, is not a racer and costs too much for such a basic flier.
"Kakute" a Japanese name! In english "Kaa Qu Tae" A hidden secret weapon often used by Ninjas! Wearing on the finger a ring with spikes! To carry out Stealth Attack to take down enemies with one blow kill on the neck or head pressure point! F.Y.I "Furibee Fuuton" - "Fuu ton" meaning : Whirlwind, where commonly used in Ninjutsu Whirlwind Attacks! Hope that helps.....
Get the A8S out of there its is a SHITE receiver , swap for the X6B ( or your preferred brand ) and dont look back , i swapped after the first battery and have had no issues so far, but as a Flysky user i was aware there is an issue with the A8S receivers so i was ready for that change. Props and batts , meh , could discuss the pros and cons all day tbh, I havent broken a stock prop yet despite trying my best to kill a tree and a wall and a lot of long grass but they are battery killers ( i run the same props on my 250 and they are Amp whores ) I prefer Dal's but these do give a nice response in a flip/roll/loop . Your opinion is always valid and welcome , i may not always agree , but thats half the fun. Try reflashing Betaflight and give it another go ( albeit use a different RX ) its a nice fast nimble quad that just needs a little hammer action to make it behave :) OSB issue may just be some glitch. This should have shipped with a Runcam 3 or something similar ( like the split but incorporated in to the stack) or at least something to mount the action cam to.
I think the wizard is a great quad for the money. It has introduced a lot of people to a great hobby. Don't get me wrong it has room for improvement but it's a great platform to learn with. Too bad you got a bum one.
I own both the X1 and the Wizard , and in no way should you ever compare the Wizard to the X1. Performance and durability , probably the best drone i have flown to date , and you pay extra for that quality but i still love casting spells with my Wizard .
Probably I won't be on their Christmas card list but I suspect they'll still sell thousands of these machines as a result of the other reviews which gloss over the negatives.
RCModelReviews other people who believe glossy reviews will still not be happy with it for very long, but the money is made, and the left over rubbish too... and that's the way the world goes round nowadays. sadly. Glad you review the guts of products and help wise people make right decisions.
The pagoda doesn't need to be thrown in the bin. You just need to get one of the $3 jigs and rebuild it correctly. Not saying it's good that they're crap by default, but it's pretty much to be expected from things made of chinesium. At least with the pagodas you can make them not suck with a proper jig and 10 minutes of time.
Yes, I can see where this one was poorly assembled (alignment-wise) -- again it's simply a lack of attention to detail. I suspect however, that your "average" RTF flier would not have the skills or desire to "fix" stuff that was supposed to be RTF.
True, but I was talking to you since i'm pretty sure you do have said skills, and they're good antenna's when assembled properly. Just hate to see people throw away stuff that can be fixed pretty easily. Not that I don't agree that it shouldn't have been crap quality in the first place.
$270 kiwi , transmitter included , Bag of props Battery. Good value , needs some mods , I have mates using these for months so I brought one , But good starter Like to see the prop review ,as that has been issues with guys , thanks
I think it just comes down to quality. Some reviewers may get an excellent product and the same product someone else gets is total crap right out of the box. Hit and miss, however, I value Bruce's reviews.
Also i have a LS-210 frame, almost the same look as this frame but the base plate is 1 peice. But the top plate cracked pretty much in the same place as you said. no standoffs in that area makes it quite weak on the top.
Omnibus F4 clones have shotty soldering job. I have one that have a dead gyro. Spread some light solder paste around the gyro chip and reheat with a SMD heat gun to reflow the solder. Also reflow questionable solder of other SMDs. The board seems fine now, but not a reliable product right out of the gate. I would stay away from these boards from ebay. Maybe other resellers have better QC.
won't ever go wrong with them dal cyclones, best durable prop ever. can't wait for you to make that video on them. make sure you test the t5046c cyclones. I bent one yesterday right in the middle and it went 90° strait up, bent it back and kept flying, went today and there still good. swear there the best made I have never blown or broke one off yet, and I destroyed a quad doing a power loop into the ground
Far out old man this is a great option for guys who cant afford a FC that you cant pronounce. The FC was broken. Get it replaced and do a proper review. Aside from the broken FC it performed really well
And aside from the crap props, and the crap battery and the fact that the top-plate slot which retains the side-plate broke out on the first (pretty soft) crash -- yeah, it's fantastic :-)
I had 3 of those Omnibus F4...2 of them failed miserably so I binned all 3. Not worth the risk...2 out of 3 is a complete fail in my book...they are crap.
you flew a miniquad all day and you came home needing to do a little repair work, that's not unusual... I know you aren't new to the hobby, i'm suprised you are so negative about something that's normal behavior to all of us .
U need to talk slower, you have such a thick accent and them talking so fast that can't understand what you saying . I notice is when you get excited or mad that you start to talk fast keep that in mind . U have lots of people in the states that let be what you bring but sometimes we have problems try to understand what you saying
Your input is always important Bruce
I don't know if Gordon or Ron would agree :)
lol
Guys check this insane deal out for the Eachine Wizard from Banggood: sites.google.com/site/banggoodlover/home
As always appreciate the honest review well done Bruce.
I appreciate the honest review, Bruce

+Legacy Of A Legend
Sad but true. There seems to be very, very few people in this hobby who aren't either brought or, not to be rude but... clueless.
LoC yep, I stick to a few of the old school, such as this, painless360 and a few others.
Bruce.. you still have the best sense of humor... Love the vid, keep up the amazing reviews!!

Lachlan Peknice yep my conclusion exactly
Overall (all three videos) great review. 10/10.
A lot of ppl are saying the x220 is a better drone is this true. Plus have seen the x220s frame is not carbon fibre it's fibre glass
that x hoxer frame is sweet. mxp200 you said?
Seems kind of a noisy quad ;)
If you don't want it or want to lend it to me for review and fixing up as well as clearing up the video. That would be great.

Dalrc cyclone are not that expensive. They just 1.5$ for 2 pairs.
Thats real strange, i had the same exact F/C problems with my WizX220 F3 F/C. My WizX220S thank god is all ok.
When fully charged, how long does it fly / how long does the battery last
Nobody has sent you an armattan chameleon ? I've been waiting to hear your thoughts.
Thank you Bruce!
rearming is locked for 30 seconds after a failsafe in betaflight
The original Dalprop Cyclone45. The go round and round as needed, and don't break. Not too hungry either.
I just got the following email from Banggood:
"We would like to inform you that the frame arms of the Eachine Wizard X220S have been upgraded to carbon fiber ones, which are stronger.
We will send the carbon fiber frame arms for X220S to you for free. However, this item is currently out of stock and should become available again in 6-9 days.
We will arrange the dispatch of your order once the item is restocked."
It looks like they are reacting to your review Bruce.
Yes! A prop review please!
NOT the Shizzle?
How do you removed all the vibrations?
are there any good props on banggood? if yes can u send me some links? thanks
will this work on a 3s battery?
Was the battery any good??
Dang I tried so hard to like this drone and it broke my hart....sadness
Yes the racekraft prop is amazing prop thats the ones they copied but need powerful motors and battery for them
Good review bruce!
props. try the Racerstar 5048 5x4.8x3 props.
tougher and more efficient than the cyclones.
more punch too.
good for up to 2500kv and will go futher but will load down motots.
i am surprised how poor this performed. i have the original wizard and it is in my limited experience, it is very rugged. i smack it into all kinds of things. i have changed the props, camera, and antena but otherwise it is stock. i was hoping the wizard 2 would be an upgrade but it does not appear so.
RCModelReviews I just received the original Wizard and it appears to be carbon all the way through.
Thanks
"I'm not a very good English speaker so my question is, for a beginner, is this toy good or not?"
I'm also a beginner and after reading lots of reviews I'm going avoid buying this and instead I'm going to build my own. This model has too many issues, is not a racer and costs too much for such a basic flier.
so the x220 is better ??
What's the receiver in there ?
This should have shipped with a Runcam 3 or something similar ( like the split but incorporated in to the stack) or at least something to mount the action cam to.
that controller do you uses?
I think the wizard is a great quad for the money. It has introduced a lot of people to a great hobby. Don't get me wrong it has room for improvement but it's a great platform to learn with. Too bad you got a bum one.
1:30 that's what I like about your channel ;)
I own both the X1 and the Wizard , and in no way should you ever compare the Wizard to the X1. Performance and durability , probably the best drone i have flown to date , and you pay extra for that quality but i still love casting spells with my Wizard .
I had expected to see an arm break, but this is actually even worse huh? :)
You'll like them Storm motors by the way! Get that quad together I'd say
wait a minute...are you grumpy trev???!!!
I would wonder if Eachine doesn't hate you after this very honest review
Probably I won't be on their Christmas card list but I suspect they'll still sell thousands of these machines as a result of the other reviews which gloss over the negatives.
RCModelReviews other people who believe glossy reviews will still not be happy with it for very long, but the money is made, and the left over rubbish too... and that's the way the world goes round nowadays. sadly.
Glad you review the guts of products and help wise people make right decisions.
A8S is a crap rX, dunno why they didnt use ths ia6c. Sucks about your FC, it really would be in BG/Eachines interest to send you a replacement
I just got mine for a bando basher and flew it 3 times with no issues....yet lol
Thx bruce🤙🏼
$270 kiwi , transmitter included ,
Bag of props Battery. Good value , needs some mods , I have mates using these for months so I brought one , But good starter Like to see the prop review ,as that has been issues with guys , thanks
you can break anything when you are trying to
It appears we need a channel to review reviewers. lol 😂
well i ordered this before the truth came out ish i will probably switch out some parts before i fly
I think it just comes down to quality. Some reviewers may get an excellent product and the same product someone else gets is total crap right out of the box. Hit and miss, however, I value Bruce's reviews.
Oh my, why did I order this...
The Shizzle!!! XD
Also i have a LS-210 frame, almost the same look as this frame but the base plate is 1 peice. But the top plate cracked pretty much in the same place as you said. no standoffs in that area makes it quite weak on the top.
the drone is dirt cheap. I would not expect everything to be super high quality.
Maybe other resellers have better QC.
sort of step back from the wizard. thinner fiberglass arms are a very bad choice. definitely
won't ever go wrong with them dal cyclones, best durable prop ever. can't wait for you to make that video on them. make sure you test the t5046c cyclones.
I bent one yesterday right in the middle and it went 90° strait up, bent it back and kept flying, went today and there still good.
swear there the best made
I have never blown or broke one off yet, and I destroyed a quad doing a power loop into the ground
Kakute kahoot why this silly names....just call it Bob!
Samo Cooper I would stick with the original Wizard. This one is a cash grab.
oh come on theres nothing out the re that comes close to this performance for that price. I wont be buying it but its amazing for the price
Samo Cooper Maybe because the other more expensive options are build to last more than a week.
Samo Cooper Furibee FUUTON is similarly priced and performs better imo...
I had 3 of those Omnibus F4...2 of them failed miserably so I binned all 3. Not worth the risk...2 out of 3 is a complete fail in my book...they are crap.
Wizard X220 awesome beginner quad. This one X220S, rubbish.
I am so glad I did not buy this pile of junk, did not believe the sellouts and their reviews
i prefer not to buy anything which has /eachine/ brand on it no more
had a falcon 250 and a pioneer e350. both were total crap
you flew a miniquad all day and you came home needing to do a little repair work, that's not unusual... I know you aren't new to the hobby, i'm suprised you are so negative about something that's normal behavior to all of us .
Final thoughts are it's a piece of s*** don't buy this drone especially from eBay
U need to talk slower, you have such a thick accent and them talking so fast that can't understand what you saying . I notice is when you get excited or mad that you start to talk fast keep that in mind . U have lots of people in the states that let be what you bring but sometimes we have problems try to understand what you saying
use the closed captioning thats built into youtube.. the CC button
your enghlish is so hard to understand wow... practice pls
