Interesting. I nearly traded the HD for a BMW GSA for this trip and hadn't even considered those helmets. I'll look into it at some point.✌

I don’t have an m8 and haven’t been to these places recently.
But even 20years ago there was big fences around the good caravan parks. And I would think the motels as well have them by now.
I just carry my iPhone these days. As you said has emergency satellite but that’s only for personal injury’s not bike break downs.
As you said you are going to very popular destinations with lots of passing traffic.
I have a heap of problems with tyres but on straight roads you should easy get ya 8000kms.
Check out the motels via streetview to see if they have a big fence or not.
Fill up at nearly every roadhouse along the road. Most are under 300kms apart.
But you can’t plan to fill up at one cos it might be closed or out of the fuel you want.

Been through the outback many times on bikes . My M8 rattles like a Salvos tin on collection day on anything less then 98 . U can get octane booster from most car places like super cheap or order through Amsoil. I would take it just in case and if needed you can pick up along the way . Helmet well if it’s pissing down then you will thank god you took a full face . Sightseeing well you can’t see everything so just see a couple of things good . There’s always another trip . Good luck in Alice you will need it ask the coppers for safest place to stay and bike shops will help out to store your bike over night . There’s people everywhere you can’t have a piss without someone stopping and checking on u so u will be fine . Great videos mate keep them coming and have a ripper trip

I wish I'd seen this before you left guys - anyway I wouldn't stop overnight in Alice Springs if you can help it. If you have to though I'd be staying at one of the big caravan parks - think Big 4 or something similar. They may lock their gates at night - it's pretty bad up there, not just media hype. Devil's Marbles on the Stuart Hwy is stunning - sunsets and sunrises are beautiful there. Also the Mereenie Loop between Alice and Kings Canyon is a 4WD only track and not recommended to 2WD vehicles - it can be quite rough in places - not sure I would be taking your bike on that one. Some beautiful spots in the West McDonnell Ranges - make sure you check them all out, maybe spend a night out there at Glen Helen Resort. Definitely do 'The Rim Walk' at Kings Canyon and don't miss the 'Valley of the Winds' walk at Kata Tjuta (Olgas). Just a few thoughts from me :)

Thanks Cath. We are in Alice now. It's not as bad as the media hype although there are coppers everywhere so......

You won't need to worry about being stuck anywhere as the route your taking is not to remote. As to fuel I have always used 95 in my Ultra and Night Train. 98 is over rated and a waste of money, use it if you can't get 95 but it's false economy to keep using it unless your bike is tuned specifically run on 98. Bit of advice regarding octane booster. Don't use it, Just a gimmick for normal street use and a waste of money. If you pull the heads on a harley you can tell if they have used it, plus it can cause other problems down the track. Done that trip a couple of years ago with no problem at all. Didn't stop overnight in Alice as it was a bit wild back then. Just be smart and aware of your surroundings and enjoy the ride.
