  • January 22, 2018 , while sitting in my living room, I heard the strangest noise coming from the river. I look out and see this. All I can say is "wow" as I watch Mother Nature show her force. Please excuse the last part of the video, my phone froze up (must have been inspired by the river) and I couldn't shut it off. I thought perhaps I'd lose the video but alas I got it! Anyway, I may have used foul language. Whoops!

      When I would zoom in at all the camera would "jump" I think it's obvious my camera was giving me difficulty. Anyway, don't watch if you can't stand it. Others probably enjoy.

    I was watching the ice flow down the Mississippi near Monticello MN today. It was a peaceful flow and so relaxing to watch. Lots of big chunks of wood and a huge trunk of a dead tree...was so cool to watch and hear the occasional crunch of the chunk grinding together.

      Agree! I love it here. Fishing isn't the greatest in this location because it's so shallow but about a mile upstream is a great fishing hole. We also enjoy tubing on it in the summer and the kids play in it.

    What a spectacular view. Are there fish in that river. If so, do you have a spare room? 😉

    • @amfulloffun76
      @amfulloffun76  3 года назад

      There are indeed fish in the river, different parts have different varieties. There are rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, landlocked salmon, and steelhead. There's not much directly behind the house though because it's quite shallow. Good fishing is nearby though. And yes, we have a spare room ;-)

      Thank you! I felt pretty sure it wasn't an otter so I did a little research and I'm confident it was a mink now. It was much too small to be an otter. I appreciate the education.

    • @amfulloffun76
      @amfulloffun76  3 года назад +1

      No, we don't have to worry about flooding of our house. Because it's lower on the opposite side of the river it would flood the entire forest over there first. And we're about 50 feet up the hillside. I definitely love living right on the river!

    Can you walk across when its at its most frozen?

    • @amfulloffun76
      @amfulloffun76  3 года назад +4

      One would think it happens every year but this is my 5th winter living on the river and that was the only year it froze so much. Right now (1/21/21) there is absolutely no ice. So it was a rare sight I guess. As far as walking across, no. Even with all that ice as in the video, it wasn't frozen on the farthest side. The water is slightly deeper over there and the current is swifter so it didn't freeze.
