Are those accordions actually making sound, or are they just empty shells and the accordion sound is coming from somewhere else in the device?

Those are all real Crucianelli accordions controlled by pneumatics on the back of the keys, air is pumped into them from the organ's reservoir so they do actually play and produce sound.
