I live in Arizona and haven't seen any rattlesnakes this year. Suddenly I realized that's probably due to the large family of red-tailed hawks living in a big tree by the house!
That was crazy, the way this bird know exactly how to aggitate the snake into striking in a strategic location so it can go for the kill is incredible.
What the hawk is actually doing is confusing the snake by spreading its wings into a parabolic dish shape. The snake senses the heat of the hawk, but in this parabola, the ground heat and the birds body heat surround the snake's heat sensors on the snake's nose, confusing it. The hawk's legs and feet are all tendons, no muscles with warm blood. So when the hawk reaches for the snakes head, the snake doesn't sense the temperature change coming for its head. The hawk isn't stupid.
What a beautiful creature (the bird) I'd be scared shitless if that flew around my head, but you have to sit back and admire the sheer beauty of the bird.
Why would you be scared tho they don't attack humans unless you get to close to their nest while they have babies in them is the main reason they will attack too
On a sunny afternoon one day, a red tailed hawk perched itself on top of the handle bars of my Brother's Harley Davidson while in his garage. That had to be one of the most American things ever!
"Its bite is loaded with hemotoxic venom, and this can cause considerable pain and tissue damage in any creature it sinks it's fangs into." At 00:36, The Hawk is looking like : NIGGA PLEASE
I was working in rattlesnake territory and almost stepped on a rattlesnake, nothing makes you want to shit your pants more than hearing that rattling tail right next to you.
Oh I know... That feeling... I was hunting in the desert and I heard that and I didn't know whear it was comeing from. All I could do was slowly back away.
I appreciate the venomous snakes out there, I really do. They are often tamed by the ones who feed on them as well as the dnakes feeding on their prey, rats and mice.
I own snakes, so... fuck you. That kind of shit is part of the reason people are ignorant over reptiles (namely snakes) and feel the need to kill them. Don't down animals just because they aren't fluffy and cute.
There are tons of Hawks here in Alabama seen one grab a snake and fly off super quick once , they have made a great comeback here in the last 20 years!
I've twice seen an Australian Brown Falcon pick up a King Eastern Brown Snake, fly up high then drop it to break it's back. On The Coorong the Falcons get bigger than Eagles. A Brown has enough venom to kill over 4000 humans. I feel very privileged to see this, but must remember to take a camera
A hit and a miss, Tony! The rattler's attempted strike was covered by the hawk's wings. The hawk distracted and mislead the snake with its' impressive wingspan. The snake struck out at what it sensed as a moving target, allowing the hawk to grasp the snake's head-its' "weapon"-with powerful talons, snap the neck, and then settle in for a nice meal. I'm now vegetarian, but I had some rattlesnake about 22yrs ago. It smells awful, but does taste pretty good!
I must agree with the replies you got. You`re just one of those stupid little humans that`s got a man made fear of snakes and very uneducated. As you hate all snakes so do I hate all people who hate snakes.
Why does massive exaggeration have to turn the truth into a lie? In terms of poisonous bite the rattler is pretty much average, and the red tail hawk a 5 ft wing span is also very firmly in the average size range of birds of prey.
Rattlesnakes taste f-ing awesome. I thought it would be nasty but if you slow cook it over charcoal its one of the best meats ive had. Now im always on the lookout to find one whenever i can, lol.

Oh yeah because the hawk knew all of this
Don't you need blood to keep muscles and tendons working?🤗
@Teapot Inc thanks for the info👍!
5 foot wingspan! That's one serious bird.
And 12 inch talons.

Yes, I agree. They are very graceful. Even if not agreed upon by most people, the snake too is also unique in its own way.

well...he it looks like he stopped
The Hawk spread his wings and said you really want to mess with these guns...
haha the hawks like "come at me, bro!"
I love to see snakes lose fights
I have to agree on that one
Why?
Yeah, snakes should lose all fights, cause they play dirty. Why did they have to get venomous fangs and most of other animals don't.
caleb momanyi
If we gave apex predators like great white sharks, lions, etc., venomous fangs, i can't imagine the level of fucked we'd be in

Few things warm my heart like seeing birds and mammals eating reptiles/amphibians.
...what?
Stephen Thomas
As a general rule of thumb, I side with mammals over the scaly/slimy animals (reptiles and amphibians).
Well screw you, scumbag. All animals are amazing in their own right.
Stephen Thomas
On a scientific level, sure. On an emotionally reactive level, well...most people prefer a rabbit over a snake.

Snake: *uses it's rattler tail* What you gonna do huh? Step on me?
Hawk: *steps on the snake's head and buried it's talons*
Very impressive.
The music when the hawk is revealed sounds almost heroic, like the animals that the snake was GOING to eat are now saved.
What a magnificent graceful pose that the hawk put on,like a male ballet dancer.
I loved this video. Watching those horrible snakes get a taste of their own medicine
God I love those Hawks 😃
Sasuke vs Orochimaru perfect

"A long, enjoyable meal" That is a funny description now :-)
so many years and so many Eagles died to arrive to this perfection.
So that’s why Rattlesnake Jake is afraid of hawks.
