    In regards to the loose cylinder head - Someone made a really good point that the OEM studs may have a midsection that is thicker and that that is why the holes seemed too large in my cylinder head. I do have OEM studs on hand and I tested this - the OEM studs do have a midsection that is not threaded but it is not thicker than the all thread studs I used. Here is the OEM stud part number - 90116-08394-00 - You can see in pictures the OEM stud actually appears to be thinner in the unthreaded section. The more you know.

    • @shoominati23
      @shoominati23 Год назад

      It should be, as if the bolt is thicker in the midsection - it creates a stress riser that will mean you will have a heartbreaking snapped bolt after a rebuild or two

    Bearings should always be tapped in with a one piece tool that fits the OD of the bearing, they make installer kits. Seals always get installed with the flat surface facing away from the liquid. Bearings all have numbers on them, it is usually universal and can me looked up on the internet for size. I worked at a two cycle motor shop when I was school, I machined and rebuilt motors all day long, usually 4-6 per day depending on the motor. I learned fast to check parts before assembly. The “Philips” head screws are actually JA screws, look the same but require a different driver.

    Generally speaking with the bearing seals the Channels are on the inside facing the bearing, this is for two reasons the flat outside gives a good support for the shaft that is entering the bearing as these seals are usually laced inside with tiny wires to aid strength, if you pull an old one apart you will see the wires inside for support, with the channel inside facing the bearing this acts like a small grease trap so the bearings remain lubricated as much as possible, I.E when you switch the engine off that seal will hold a small amount of oil inside so upon first start up the oil will be there straight away to lubricate the bearing off the bat, this is generally what I have learned and have applied to all my vehicle work, not saying it’s gospel and to be taken as sure but I haven’t had a premature bearing failure as of yet, hope this helps for the future and people reading this…… again always love the videos……. Smashing out the work and top quality videos too 👍

    Love the video as always. I'm only 15 min or so in and thought I'd comment after your honesty rant from the 3 bearing pins coming out. I went and bought a Lakota 3 or 4 days ago in Allentown PA. I was motivated from your Lakota videos. The facebook ad said the quad ran great. I made the 2.5 hour drive one way and the seller put on a show for me. He cranked the machine for at least 5 minutes killing the battery. He swore he was just riding the machine before I got there. I was able to get out of him that he only owned the machine for a couple weeks and replaced the side cover where the reverse lever shifter and sprocket are(rtv was everywhere) and bolts were missing. Then I discovered while I was there that it's not getting spark. I'm thinking when he replaced the cover some reverse sensor got installed wrong as the reverse light on the dash/handlebars won't go out no matter if it's in reverse, neutral, or 1st gear etc.. anyway... I've added up $110 so far in just bolts this guy or someone removed from this machine and didn't put back. He came down on the price and I ended up buying a Polaris Sport 400 from him too so... I was entertained with his antics and made it work. Maybe it's the people who are right in the middle are the most irritating, I love your stuff and I also enjoyed dealing with the guy who went hard with the dishonest ad! He was like the $1/hr plus a case of beer to fix your quad guy and you never get it back or if you do get it back it's apart in boxes and you're the $250/hr guy who builds your bike to perfection and doesn't charge for extra time if you make a mistake and have to fix it. Anyhow, keep up your good work, the good content, and the funny sound effects and humor WITH the attention to detail. Good stuff!!

I slid the socket over the crank shaft then I slid the pipe on and found a nut that threaded onto the crank and just slowly tightened the nut and it pulled the crank right in place. I think the motor will last good. If a failure occurs it will be do to the non chamfered ports but your build is totally solid. If you really want to give it an extra fighting chance run castor bean oil like maxima 927. Castor bean oil has the lowest piston to wall sheer ratio and also makes the most hp. Love your vids!

I repair forklifts for a living and rebuild a lot of hydraulic cylinders. That’s how the seals go in the hydraulic cylinders.

    Had two of them back in the 90's. Perfect for the tight trails cause how short they are.

    For seals the open face generally goes in towards the "sealed" side, or wherever the liquid/pressure is at.
    At least that's what I've heard and what I've always done whenever there were no clear instructions, no problems with seals blowing out so far lol

    Every part in a bearing aside from the separator (cage) is precision ground. I can tell you from my experience repairing and aligning cnc machines that a lot of the deviation you see in Chinese bearings and other critical dimension parts like the cylinder is due to the machines being out of tolerance. With bearings you will see the quality difference in higher temperatures and vibration.

    Yes you can put the pins back in no problem.. I had a garden tractor diff, 2 huge bearings had all the pins fall out just put them back in and it was fine.

    Hey Mike, I watch this guy Alan Millyard here on YT. He does a lot of crazy motorcycle engine builds ( he build a Viper V10 Motorcycle) anyway he always makes and uses copper head gaskets , but before he torques the head he will anneal the copper head gasket. He just gets it red hot and quenches in water, it makes the copper soft. Not sure if yours needed that or not but just thought I would mention it. Hes also the guy that I learn the JIS screwdriver from. Great stuff Thanks

    I totally appreciate you showing the roller bearing install, I would have to replace it or every time I started it I'd think about it coming apart! I couldn't sleep! LoL

    watched the entire video and it was super informative. My pops and I had quite the falling out. And after I moved states, I lost interest in riding and working on bikes, reminded me of rougher times . After 3 years of no bike , i’m past it and getting started on a tc125 project . podcasts and videos like these have truly revived my love for building and riding again. thanks michael 🫵🏽🤘🏾

    The holes weren't too big. The studs specific to that application have shouldered sections in the center to take up that room.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  Год назад +1

      Yes, the OEM studs do have an unthreaded mid-section but the OEM Blaster head has holes that are around 5/16 inch and these are 3/8 inch, I tested this. If you plug the OEM stud part number in on google (90116-08394-00) you can see pics of the stud and see it appears the unthreaded section is actually thinner than the rest of the stud. This is a good point by the way, I wish I had mentioned this in the video.

    I love your videos and you helped me so much with my stock blaster engine rebuild so thank you. It would be sick to see you do a stroker build with a hemi head and professionally ported cylinder. I'm seeing dudes getting 35hp+ from them. Would be awesome to get your thoughts on a build like that.

    I feel your struggles, been there before. Always best to test fit the case halves together first, make sure they seat and the crank and trans spins freely. Then pull them apart and put the sealant on. And as far as crank bearings I only use OEM now. Been burned by to many other kinds of crank bearings..
