I never fully appreciated the snare hits happening in the verse until I heard this. This album has a ridiculous amount of depth to it

This has always been one of my favorite Fragile tracks. It has such a deep mystical atmosphere to it.

i imagine myself walking by the ocean on an empty beach just throwing rocks into the ocean, trying to clear my head after a break up but slowly being consumed by the feeling of helplessness

I don't know why but E3L2: The Vaults of Zin from Quake *always* pops into my head when I think about this song. That recurring hollow/ethereal noise is very similar to the teleporter and wind sound effects for that game. Tis always nice when a little bit of Quake leaks into other Trent-related material.

    I woke up today
To find myself in the other place
    With a trail of footprints
    From where I ran away
    It seems everything I've heard
    Just might be true
    And you know me
    (well you think you do)
Sometimes, I have everything - yet I wish I felt something
Do you know how far this has gone?
Just how damaged have I become?
When I think I can overcome
    It runs even deeper
And in a dream I'm a different me
    With a perfect you
    We fit perfectly
And for once in my life I feel complete
And I still want to ruin it
    Afraid to look
    As clear as day
This plan has long been underway
    I hear them call
    I cannot stay
    The voice inviting me away
Do you know how far this has gone?
Just how damaged have I become?
When I think I can overcome
    It runs even deeper
    Everything that matters is gone
All the hands of hope have withdrawn
Could you try to help me hang on?
    It runs...
    I straight
    I won't crack
    On my way
    And I can't turn back
    I'm okay
    I'm on track
    On my way
    And I can't turn back
    I stayed
    On this track
    Gone too far
    And I can't come back
    I stayed
    On this track
    Lost my way
    Can't come back

I hope Trent will eventually get back to these complex layers and interesting rhythms. Lately the drums beats he uses are a bit simplistic and predictable. However his latest EP is a bit promising , perhaps he's venturing back to lush production

You hope that a 54-year-old man will become like he was when he was 34? Humans cognitively peak around the age of 30. Our brains slow down after that; we're less creative and less quick. Don't hold your breath. When you're 50, you're simply not going to be able to be like you were when you were 30.

He'sappearantly living the good, clean, and healthy life these days...I'm willing to bet he'll never get back to this cerebral style. However, while I dont care too much for much of nine inch nails after with teeth, his movie scores are pretty damn good.

@@CastroEulis145 Ghosts I-IV was pretty good too in my opinion. I like putting it in the background when I'm reading or working on something

@@yep9462 yeah definitely, Ghosts 1-4 is some good inspiring stuff. I dont necessarily dislike the newer stuff but i just dont feel compellled to give it multiple listens like the first 5 albums.

@Cleopatra VII Bowie peaked in the 1970s and 1980s. Byrne peaked in the 1980s. That aside, the presence of statistical outliers here are exceptions that prove the rule; if a a 55-year-old is making hit music, then it is exceptional in part *because* of the age!
