The flower his father was picking - that's the Hyacinth flower. Violet named the baby she was carrying at the time Hyacinth.
Story goes the flower gets its name from a Spartan Prince named Hyacinthus. We don't know much about him in the myth other than that he was really pretty and that two gods fell in love with him (most of the male gods in Greek mythology are either gay or bi), Apollo and Zephyrus (god of the west wind). Hyacinthus had a relationship with Apollo and Zephyrus either never had the nerve to tell Hyacinthus how he felt or just took the rejection badly. Some say that this was a sudden fit of jealous rage, others say this the result of months of brooding in unrequited love till it formed into a 'If I can't have you no one can' mindset, but one day when Apollo was showing Hyacinthus how to throw a discus Zephyrus altered the winds so that when the discus came back it hit Hyacinthus straight into the side of his poor pretty head. Then as he died either the Hyacinth flower grew from his blood, or Apollo turned him into the Hyacinth flower so that he would stay young and beautiful forever.
Either way I don't think Hyacinth Bridgerton is ready to hear either story behind her name.
