    • @peterpluim7912
      @peterpluim7912 2 года назад +3

      @@carminemartino1197 You don’t want to risk arriving late on the scene because you could gain a couple of seconds running while loaded with heavy bags. Most professionals know this well and it is repeated over and over during training but TV cameras on site can change the default behaviour of very smart people.
      There are very few life threatening situations where 30 seconds will have an impact on the outcome of an incident. There are a lot of life threatening situations where 15 minutes additional delay due to a sprained ankle can have a significant impact on he outcome of an incident. 15 minutes is rather optimistic. 20-25 minutes is more realistic. Most helikopter ambulances services I have known simply forbid their staff to fly when they have a minor injury. If this sprained ankle happens before the outbound stretch, the heli has to fly to a nearby hospital and pick up a replacement crew member.

    Can anyone tell me the logistics of this? I’m guessing the car and helicopter didn’t dispatch from the same base at the same time otherwise they would have all gone in the car in the first place? Or is it a case of getting the heli there in case the patient needs transporting to a specialist hospital, but then surely the doctors would still have gone in the car and left heli positioning to the pilots? 🤷‍♂️

      They are painted in the colours of the air ambulance charity. In this case that's red but some are blue/green etc. They aren't painted to hide blood stains, they wouldn't park close enough for that to be an issue. They wouldn't transfer patients by car (either to hospital or to the helicopter) so if it was an issue they could wipe it clean before leaving the scene.

      The air ambulance is staffed by emergency doctors and very highly skilled paramedics who support other paramedics and first responders in major trauma or resusucation. You can do better. Hospitals with a decent management team will always buy the sturdiest vehicles with a high average speed and capable of quick reactions. The reason is very simple: emergency staff are incredibly hard to replace and if you don’t provide safe equipment, the staff will quickly leave.
      The driving staff at our hospital are specially formed at the elite driving school of the National Police. People don’t realise it but the cars transporting the emergency teams (nurse-driver, emergency physician, emergency technician) have the highest yearly average mileage under sirens and emergency lights. They drive almost always to a patient who has a life threatening condition, they do a lot of second line support when trained people need help. Specifically for my country, the emergency physician at an accident becomes the medical director of the accident scene and in that role, she or he can direct firefighters police. If we can do anything to reduce the stress of their backs and get those people on scene in their best condition, it is our duty to do so.
      Regarding brand and model: we work with public tenders, open for all European countries. In our country, we are handled by the official distributors for our country. We pay less for an Audi Q7 than for a Skoda Kodiaq so it always comes down to BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. In the end, the teams decides what car they want to trust with their lives. We have four cars: three are in use and one used as replacement vehicle during maintenance or used for training purpose. On average, the cars last 1,8 years before reaching 250000 kilometres.
