The Biathlon is an event that requires immense skill, composure and stamina, all of which are showcased by Halvard Hanevold in these highlights on his way to Olympic gold at the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics.
Practising biathlon requires very diverse qualities: excellent physical capacities of endurance, along with intense concentration and extreme precision when getting into position for the shooting section.
Indeed, it is not easy to keep cool to aim at a target when your heart is beating fast. These are qualities which Halvard Hanevold developed throughout his long career. This civil engineer qualified in building machinery and tools was able to apply a scientific and methodical approach to his sports performance. This is certainly what enabled him to remain, for more than 15 years, an essential, yet discreet, figure in the world of biathlon.
His first steps into the world of Olympism were taken at home in Norway in 1994, at the Lillehammer Games. He very quickly became a pillar of the relay team, in which he amassed many rewards (he was a four-time world champion). He was always the first athlete in the relay. A fine tactician and good shooter, he launched his team onto the road to success.
In 1998, he became Olympic champion for the first time, winning the 20km. A few days later, with the Norwegian relay team, he was beaten by five seconds and won silver.

I named my first car after this guy. What he went through and STILL won gold here, and had a long and very distinguished biathlon history is just superb. Always a better shot than a fast skier, his unique 'crab' style and never say die attitude won him a lot of fans and rightful accolades. Not a big Wiki fan, but the 'career' section shows well what an excellent biathlete he was. He overcame cancer and an avalanche that destroyed his house to do it too. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halvard_Hanevold#Career so yes Diego it DOES make sense that this video was made.

Я помню эти лыжи. Мы их называли "глобусы". Холвард - Великий биатлонист! Его имя всегда будет в моей памяти, и памяти многих спортсменов. Жаль, что ушло то время...
