Lovely shop George. That Nyro album has eluded me as well, always grab any of hers I don’t have. Great finds. Now I know where to get my Vertigo swirl! Cheers.
Hi George - Rise Above one of my local record shops , so a regular visit for me - great place and glad that you got a haul . Just a mile up the road to East Finchley is Alan's Records which is also excellent - so I feel quite spoilt. And great that you were recognised!
Hi Graham, thanks for the comments. Rise Above local to you? Lucky man you are, although I'm sure your bank balance might be suffering! I sadly did not quite have the time for Alan's that afternoon, as was aware of it being nearby. I will aim to get there on my next London trip, thanks for recommending.
@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934, Yes try Alan’s and the Little Record Shop In Tottenham Lane N8 too , the owners Alan ( of course ) and David are really nice guys too !
George , I’ve just subscribed to you as I also just been to Rise Above in Highgate too after watching the vinyl hunters video of Barry who I know, it’s a really nice shop. The only down side I found that it was a bit dark, I don’t mean the ambience , I mean the lighting . Also I’ve bought a ton of stuff on eBay and have to clean the records, I just wondered your choice of record cleaner ?
@@mikewest1542 Hi Mike, thank you very much for sub, really appreciate it. I plan to visit Alan's at some point soon. My record cleaning machine is a Kab EV1 (Google it). Basically all the results of wet-vac machine without the huge cost.
Great Finds! The Peanut Butter Conspiracy album is excellent. Funnily enough, I featured a US copy of it in one of my videos, but you did well to find a UK one. Also have Solar Plexus which is great. Other Nucleus albums are well worth tracking down.
That was a very good looking shop. If you go back spend some time videoing those walls of grail, I would love to see more f tat music. My first subway ride was on the London Tube. Cool picks
Thanks Steve. I was a bit reserved with the shop footage if honest. I should have focused more on the wall items - camera shy, but behind the camera! You can't beat the London Underground to get you around. All part of the experience. It was not as busy as I was expecting that day for a Saturday afternoon.
Great stuff George. Must give that a visit one day, there’s quite a few decent shops tucked away in London I need to get out & discover, this definitely looks to be one of them! I need to get my editing skills up to par & do some videos like this, & it’s good publicity I reckon a few in the VC will now visit because of this video.
Cheers mate! I do aim to spread the good word, we shall see. Still plenty of life left in London shops. I think people assume they will be overpriced or rip-off merchants - not the case I feel.
Very entertaining video and great to see what you found in Rise Above records. Obviously worth the trip. Gosh, have never seen that Habibyya record. I have New York Tendaberry, one of Nyro's best I think. Take care, John.
Hi, just watched your video. Sorry to say by 'accident' I'm a massive vinyl collector. Mainly 60s onwards. I'm a MASSIVE BEATLES FAN (after seeing them live in 1964) and over them many years met them. So in the record shop, did you by chance see a Beatles Section. I live in Ruislip. So I don't want to travel that distance for nothing. We've got a Brilliant Second-Hand record shop in Ruislip Manor. The Owner is friends with Gary Crowley & Paul Weller. They can be found in there sometimes. So I'll now be following your site regards
Hi Graham, thanks for viewing and your comments. My recollection of the shop is more 'genre' based sections rather than artists, so I'm afraid I cannot recall seeing a dedicated section for the Fab 4, or any unusual items from them. However, I found them very friendly, so they may be able to clarify more if you contact them. There is a decent website with details.
Thanks for sharing this George. I've been buying new releases on the Rise Above label for years. I follow them on Insta and have seen them post super rare used stuff. Good to know they charge fair prices and I hope I get to pay them a visit one day...I still haven't managed to get to the Chichester shops yet even though I went there once with that specific purpose...cheers Dale
Hi Dale, hope all is well. I need to keep an eye on the label more as know of it, but that's it. Chichester is totally worth a visit as and when you can. Arundel is also not far away with a great shop as well. There are others tucked away in Sussex which I plan to try in 2024. Watch this space!
Ian Carr taught a just history class I attended at the guildhall School of music. I had bass lessons with Jeff Clyne which was a great result , he was a to gentleman and great great player. He played on Nucleus stuff and had his own cool band called Turning Point
Would love to know how that shop has so many rare records. I seriously doubt they’re pulled from collections bought in as you just wouldn’t find that stuff. Can only think they’re bought online and then sold in the shop.
Hi, David. Looking at comments and reviews I think they do but collections. However a lot of stuff possibly comes from the owner's collection where he had multiple copies, too many, etc.
@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934 I’ve seen it on sale online for high £100s so that sort of price wouldn’t surprise me. I’ll have to make do with my CD copy.

Thanks Mike, I cannot recommend it enough. Looking forward to returning myself in the new year.

Cheers Jake - possibly the best copy I've seen for a while, was very pleased to pick that one up.
I'm looking at spending a few days in London next year,so Rise Above Records is now on my list of shops to visit 👍👍👍

Great to witness your enthusiasm. Laura Nyro ? Did she write Stoney End that song Barbara Streisand sang ? Was singing that to myself yesterday.
Not sure the answer to that one. I could just Google it, but I almost feel that is cheating!
I’m going to check on that song
Nyro did write Stoney End 😎😎

Muswell Hill nearby isn't it? Archway Tavern just up the road there. A good view from that viaduct mentioned from what I hear.
