- British Columbia received a failing D+ grade in the latest Food Banks Canada poverty report. The report reveals nearly half the province feels worse off financially than last year. Kate Walker reports.

Food banks shouldn’t give out to international students.
And NO it has nothing to do with Khalistan or being Punjab.
Many countries require international students to show proof of financial security (bank balance, etc.) prior to be given a student visa.

@@susanstewart1402 Punjabi international students dont require to show fund. Only until few months ago they just needed to show $10,000 for a 4 year program. Many of them just take loan from bank but this 10,000$ doesnt last more than a few months in Canada.

What are you talking about? We’ve had well over 100k immigrants every single year for the last 20+ years. Over 400k in both 2021 and 2022.

Wasn’t there an expose recently done about people not needing the food bank taking advantage of it. I believe a data analyst for one of the big banks got caught doing this and giving advice to do this on RUclips when he makes over $90,000 a year.

I was on the street and had a brain injury, no drugs, just couldn't think clearly after the head injury, would eat lunches at a street shelter. Met a few people there who had plenty of money but didn't want to pay for anything and liked the social atmosphere, quite amazing, one guy had three apartment units...

A woman only needs to pop one out to escape the worst of the extreme poverty going on in Canada. The financial support families get is HUGE compared to a single person, plus much better chance of getting into subsidized housing. I'm not sure if they truly "need" to be going to food banks like single people who are literally going hungry.

Ppl are reluctant to donate when 45-60% of the ppl receiving free food complain about what's being handed out bc "its not what I wanted" or "its not good enough for my kids". Also, learning that places were running out of food due to the amount of international students abusing the food bank system, ppl really didn't like hearing that & lessened their generosity. Sad when the few ruin it for everyone else
No one wants to work. I grew up on welfare because my mom didn’t want to work. We went to school and she watched tv all day. Us kids did all the house chores. Its an entitlement and laziness epidemic

@@firstandforemost87 It means i stayed in an affordable housing complex made for single mothers who don’t work. 30 families all with single lazy mothers all milking the system. They were all able to work but they were to lazy to provide for their children. They sure could party and us kids did nothing but get in trouble. Most of them had secret boyfriends that worked as well. Thats how we got kicked out after 5 years, my mom was caught lying about letting her new fiancé stay with us. Them other jealous single mothers told on her.

@AellaMaude-oy9qn BS. The problem is a result of the system. Wages and salaries are too low. Rents are too high. Most of the benefits are going to a very small minority of people at the top. And most homeless people have health problems that can’t be solved when they have no place to live. They have physical and mental and addiction issues. A third of the homeless are elderly. Don’t blame the disadvantaged people for their problems. Meanwhile the rich are getting richer and more money when they don’t even need it

i went to the food bank .my husband of 18 years had just passed away and i was struggling...we are allowed to go to the main one every 6 months..the lady was very rude ..and all she gave me was 2 bottles of water ..one can of beans and stale baguette and 2 apples..my 7 year old daughter was thrilled with the bottle water..i had to choke back my tears..they are just ripping off the public with their campaigns to feed us..
BC has become so expensive.. Costs have doubled in five years.. Housing and then everything else.. Skip the covid card..! 👎

Our leaders have failed us, they're more interested in helping the rich and other countries then helping every day Canadians who desperately need it. Canadians are starting to leave the country. Something has to be done.

I remember when I was younger, around early elementary school and I remember walking past a food bank and there would be lines of people waiting to donate food, but now, since the cost of food and living in bc has skyrocketed, the food banks get less donations from family units.

Everybody wants free food is the problem.
This is what happens when anything is made a "basic human right."
As each month goes by the problem will be compounded. First by people who for any reason, had to move and find new housing. If they rent they will be in particular trouble and many will find their rent could double. Homeowners will not be spared as many mortgages are coming due and the shock of higher interest rates is just starting to pickup momentum. True, you can make money on your home, but you will need to find a new one & don't forget Trudeau/Singh regime is waiting with a hand open to collect their share of your profits. Your profits will be used to bring many immigrants in, most of who are unskilled labor needed to pour coffee or flip burgers. They also add to the problem at food banks & shelters & hospitals. Why are there so many recent sick/old immigrants coming in? A topic for another time?. But if you are sitting in your Mercedes at a Starbucks drive through its not your problem, as long as you get your beverage in time, hot, but not too hot!

Pollievre's office hasn't returned any of my calls/emails and I've left many messages and written many emails. They don't care about the sick and struggling.
