I love this album bc as a fem presenting queer person, feeling dominant and confident is quite hard and this record is basically bottled divine feminine confidence and rage
also I like to pay attention to the beginning of each Kick and the end. Kick I starts with Nonbinary. As we know, that one was fulling on spitting. Then the last track is "No Queda Nada" which translates to Nothing Remains and it feels almost as a goodbye. Kick II we start with Doña which again gives that same Nonbinary approach. Then we end with Andro which feels like another goodbye. Kick III we start off with a hell of an introduction with Bruja then we end on yet another goodbye-feeling Joya. My point is I think each Kick represents a personality and the way she starts and ends the album goes from, "i'm about to tell you a story so listen closely, this is what you're in for," to "goodbye now, see you in the next world." You're going to get to kick iiiii and realize that the final track "Crown" feels like a summarization of all the Kicks and a one last goodbye all in one.
I feel like all the outros for the kicks transition into the next album except for kick i, we see kick ii transition into kick iii with andro, with many sounds that could fit into the kick iii album, next for kick iii we finish it off with a slow paced, more beautiful song in the way it’s something you could cry to, still somewhat upbeat to fit into kick iii but still, and that transitions into kick iiii fitting a lot with joya and it’s beat, and you can see how kick iiii goes into kick iiiii and kick iiiii ends off the entire series. I see arcas kick series as a book. 5 chapters, each with its own unique story, it’s own themes etc. Each ending off and picking up a chapter along the way with iiiii being the perfect closer for it, arca is a true visionary and I can’t wait to see her works in the future.
@@h.c5824 I like the book comparison, @@@@@ can kind of be seen as the prologue as it constantly goes back and forth from these abrasive sounds to these quiet and melodic ones; it really gives insight on all 5 of the kicks
@@wvops2264 to me, the kicks kind of seem to me as a sequel to @@@@@, because as you said it goes from loud abrasive sounds to not quiet and ambient sounds, which correlates to the kick series as we see with tracks like Doña and Ripples, but we also have tracks like Calor and Pu. I loved how you put it and I would love to keep hearing your perspective.
@@h.c5824 I really love this whole universe she has created with the kicks. Somewhere she described @@@@@ as: “@@@@@ is a transmission broadcasted into this world from a speculative fictional universe, in which the fundamentally analogue format of FM pirate radio remains one of few means to escape authoritarian surveillance powered by a hostage sentience gestated by a post-singularity AI. The host of the show, known as DIVA EXPERIMENTAL lives across multiple bodies in space in virtue of her persecution - in order to kill her, one would first have to find all of her bodies. The bodies that host her carry fetishes for paralinguistics, breaking the fourth wall and nurturing a mutant faith in love in the face of fear.” Basically I think that she's saying that there's a story to it, kind of post-apocalyptic. Most radio thingys have been wiped out and the only way to communicate is through a special form of FM. The only way for someone to tell us on Earth what's happening over there is for them to use this FM. With this, they tell us about how there is one being (Arca) who has reigned this terror and has divided in 5 amongst different section of that universe. They tell us the only way she can be rid of is with the help of us defeating the being. In order to defeat the being we must confront all of her self-states (another way of saying listening through each album I suppose). Once we do that, the being will finally be gone and I take this as: We will be a lot more connected to Arca. The term self-states is very present here. What I've think Arca has done here is take 5 versions of who she is (Alejandra) and describe them through what she does best: music. I don't really want to assume much based off of what I think each album is about but kick i: Definitely the being's (Arca's) favorite self-state and more comfortable one. This one manages to go through many sub-self-states while still maintaining control. We hear songs like Nonbinary, Mequetrefe, and Riquiqui, then we take a drastic turn to hear songs like Calor, Time, and Afterwards. kick 2: I can't really pinpoint a full assumption on this one. I think the meaning of it might be very closely related to her self titled album in a way. Songs like Tiro talk a lot about her country and where she's from and the rest of the album talks about just who she is in general and where she came from. However, still can't put a personality to this self-state. kick 3: One would think this is the craziest self-state. With back to back to back loud, experimental and abrasive sounds coming on after the other in no specific order leaving listeners unexpecting of the next sound, this self-states takes the title for the controlling kick. This is extremely evident in the album's cover. This kick has all the confidence needed to control it's fears and whatever comes its way. But what does Joya mean then if it completely changes the upbeat flow of the album? We can see this happen with every single kick with the except (sort of) of kick 5. The beginning track will be more haunting, straight forward, and sometimes that loud and experimental type beat. Then at the end of the kick, it'll be a quite sad song compared to the rest of the album. As mentioned in my first comment, they're all like a goodbye or almost a "you've defeated me, goodluck on the next self state (kick)." The first track in a kick is more of a welcoming "you can enter if you dare." kick 4: I honestly haven't listened to this one as much to form a opinion but it is extremely alien-esque, or what we as humans would assume the vibe an alien would give off. kick 5: the craziest kick as it holds the strongest emotions and power to turn someone away from fully conquering the Arca on the last self state. With the beautiful piano put into intensely sad sounds, it'd be enough to make some cry and turn away from saving the universe Arca reigns. What I really want to take note of is Crown. Unlike the ending track for all the other kicks, this one simultaneously does a welcoming and a goodbye. It is both haunting and ethereal. This song really is a final battle song. It sounds manipulative almost, trying to guilt-trip but also trying to get you away. It is conflicting your emotions, maybe you inable to defeat the Arca. This is jus my observation, sorry for the manyyyy grammar mistakes; im writing this at midnight
@@wvops2264 i absolutely love your perspective on the kick albums, with her five albums being different bodies and everything. From my perspective non-binary feels like an introduction to her as a god like figure, as an alien as a villain even, it’s what you will be getting yourself into if you challenge her and crown feels like a backstory or a motive to why she has created this post apocalyptic world that you mentioned.
the dolls arca talks about are her fellow trans girls!! don’t know if you’re familiar with the lingo, but we often refer to ourselves/each other as dolls or the dolls. thought i’d let you know if you didn’t already!
