G'day! I just have to drop this here - you folks at ReDriven are bloody rippers. Fantastic content, no bullshit and very well informed. It has quickly shot to be my top viewed channel in the last few months, and I only hope you continue this channel for as long as possible. Cheers!
My Levorg replaced a 20 Mustang GT. In all honesty, as much as I loved the Stang, Im enjoying the Vorg more. As a daily it is pretty fast and inconspicuous ,.which was the Stangs undoing. Out on the road, I can drive the Vorg faster and more safely. Not the prettiest car though. I still miss the Stang as well
Levorg, would I buy one? Yes I did. 2016 GT-S. Other than the rear end being completely underdampened, the weedy stereo and high levels of wind noise with a window down on the freeway, its a bloody good drive and the tech is above what others of the same vintage/price point. Really ace car to own, the CVT isn't terrible, S#/I mode gets along quite well.
Was going to buy a used Levorg after having a long line of WRXs in the past, but ended up going with a 2020 Skoda Octavia RS 245 Wagon in Nardo Grey and I love it. Great fun practical cars.
Loved the list. A 335i wagon I could live with. I have a sedan. I think the preventative maintenance on these is worth it for what they are capable of...if you are a car nut like me.
My pick as an aussie is my own ve series 2 wagon. Its the last of the manuals they produced and pretty rare in its ssv-z spec, and with a cam and heads it makes some serious power (350 wheel kw). For the budget is the largest and fastest of this bunch!!
I tested drive ZB Commodore RSV and Levorg in 2019. The ZB was a quite nice car, but the interior looks boring, I was not convinced it is a "Commodore", and I was a little bit concerned about the future of the car and Holden in Australia. The Levorg, CVT kills it, simply no CVT for me. In the end, I picked a Skoda Superb Sportline. Basically a larger, more comfy, less sporty Golf R wagon. Super happy with my choice.
That 3S-GTE should have gone in the Lexus NX and UX. Probably also the GR Yaris and GR corolla. It'll make those cars more fun to drive with that much power, a six speed manual transmission and all wheel drive.
I was trying to convince a friend to convince his mum to get a E63 wagon when she was looking to replace her VE SS wagon. Instead, she got a ZB and loved it. In hindsight, I probably should have told them to keep the VE if they are going for the ZB.
I have owned several wagons for a while now, spacious, practical and still a car. But here in Europe the standard saloon, hatch and estate/wagons are getting rarer and harder to find due to the SUV craze. I may have to buy an SUV as many standard petrol and diesel euro boxes are small capacity turbo charged affairs that are no use for towing. Our version in Europe of that Commodore in petrol form is a 1.5 turbo charged unit 😭😭😭. If you want to tow you need to buy the 2.0 diesel here, but unfortunately I do not do the milage on a day today basis to justify owning a diesel. It would just end up with clogged up DPF, EGR and turbo issues. This is the dilema, getting a petrol powered tow car in Europe with guts, BMW and Merc service and running cost are too high for me so thats a no, and the Mondeo 2.0 turbo eco boost is as rare as hens teeth here, also heard Ford powershift autos are crap.
Great video! But surely the Audi S4 Avant looks so much better than, and is a great match for, the frumpy BMW ? I’m sure Audi will get a mention later in your series.
One that might be a possible contender for this list would be the 13 - 17 Peugeot 207 Outdoor Zen. The beemer and caldina are the ones that surprised me on the list even if you technically broke your own rules with the caldina.
Great series. I considered most of the late model wagons you’ve shown so far. I would have given the Levorg more consideration if it wasn’t for the CVT and all the reviews at the time. But I thank Subaru for that oversight because I ended up with a Skoda Octavia RS with every option plus APR tune. Refinement, practicality and performance. Bloody love it. Except for the FWD.
100% agree with the Xb commodore We bought 1 new Calais tourer Beautiful car Sold it after 14 months Just after Holden shut shop It’s was a difficult car to sell cause no one wanted it Lost $50,000 in 14momths Traded it for a Subaru levorg The levorg is good But factory bilstein suspension is absolute rubbish Expensive to get parts for The high beam goes in the headlights and you have to buy the entire xenon headlight

@@timw2083 the 335i's with higher ks (120+) have often had these issues addressed but they're still a BMW so there is always a slew of other expensive problems almost guaranteed
Love the channel lads. I know it's not in this price range but why oh why don't BMW give us the 3 series wagon in M340i spec with the mighty B58 like the UK gets? Even the M340D with the B57 would be awesome. .Bloody CRAZY! I'd love one..
Yeah we shot this before Subaru confirmed CVT only. The initial press release hinted at a manual for both sedan and wagon and I assumed they'd have to throw a manual in the wagon for people like us. Apologies mate. - AK
Bill Brown. If the Levorg or WRX Wagon were manual to me it would be the perfect car. But it's not and I won't be buying a WRX sedan instead because it doesn't suit my needs. So Subaru lose a sale. Surely I'm not the only one. Subaru seem to enjoy not giving people what they want whether it be the Outback only available in AUS with the smaller engine or CVT's across their entire range when lots of people don't want a CVT.
@Bill Brown Doesn't make sense. They didn't want to call the last Levorg a WRX because they didn't want WRX branding affected in case it did bad in AU. Now, they are calling it a WRX as it has actually done quite well. I think its more to do with production plant issues and homologation issues over anything else.
The Levorg in manual trim would be the tits. A true successor to the 4th gen Legacy specB but nooooooo CVT only and no spice. VE / VF Commodore Sportwagons are surprisingly cool, even sans the V8, be hard to say no in terms of value for money.
Agree on the Commodore. However, their boxes tend to heat up quick and go limp. Levorg. Yes and no. Good package, but CVT. No CVT car should ever make any list. Fucks me why Sube and Nissan etc still use them. Imagine if the Levorg/WRX came with DSG... It would sell like hotcakes.
I think the Aussie Commodore should have also been listed because of that V8... The ZB may be a better car (in V6 form) but it shouldn't have been called the Commodore. Otherwise, great video!
So you’re breaking the rules for a Japanese Toyota but not an Aussie Commodore? Is this just cultural cringe? Why not just make it a list of all fast wagons and appreciate that Australians will always be your main audience?
I'm going to have to agree with the Commodore. I have driven these as work rentals...not my tires, not my petrol. Fun.
Yeah agreed. Had one of these in Tassie for a couple of weeks. Goes along alright. 😉
