In todays car scene, station wagons have a certain sense of luxury and class. A powerful engine for car enthusiasts to drool over, with enough room for the entire family. So what happened to the days of station wagons having that ulitimate Clark Griswold feel? What happened to the Queen Wagon Family Truckster? I am only kidding, but seriously, station wagons were once a staple of the american car industry. The were the SUV of their time, with sporty variants only few and far between, to now where the only wagons you really see are the sport variants. So What Happened to Station Wagons? Sit down with Alex right now and find out!

Who else thinks station wagons NEED to make a comeback? Drop a comment below!
Wagon or not, be sure to modify your ride with the best over at www.fitmentindustries.com
hell yeah. i missed the old honda accord ones! they be nice. The altezza one's as well
Need more/any muscle wagons back... the Mach-e is a joke.
A4 b7 avant big turbo owner haha yea they need a comeback but at the same time it's cool if not because it's always nice to have something people fine see all the time
Uhm, you spelled "Wagoon" wrong.....😉
Station Wagons and Minivans both. People are using SUVs (which have their place) as Vans and Wagons. SUVs are Sport Utility Vehicles, not People Carriers. The Minivan is the People Carrier, and the Wagon is the Stuff Hauler. SUVs are meant to drive the line paining equipment out on the sports fields, that's what their for. But people use them as Minivans, People use them as Wagons... sigh... WHY!!!!!!! Not I can't see anything out of my little sport coupe because I'm surrounded by Fat! Rolling! Skyscrapers! Bring Back the Wagons! Bring Back the Minivans! Bring Back the Sport Sedans!
As someone from germany, it's quite surprising to me that wagons are somewhat of a rarity in the US nowadays. Here cars like the Passat, Golf Variant, A4 Avant, 3-Series touring or Skoda Octavia are very common, you'll see them everywhere. Even performance cars are often seen in their wagon Form, like the RS4, Panamera Sport Tourismo or E63s.
My dad bought an RS6 last year and it's definitely cooler (and prettier) than any SUV on the market :D
I wish Cadillac made a CT5-V Blackwing Wagon, so you guys in the US at least have one wagon
We wish that’s how it was around here! Wagon >>> SUV
Yuup, I was just in Germany the last 4 months to study and I saw so many awesome wagons, I absolutely loved it. Now I want one for myself back in the states😂
DIe Linke Spur ist voll mit BMW 5er, Audi A6 und VW Passat :D
It's "Kombi,, not stationwagen😉
We need more wagons in the US. That JDM Corolla Wagon goes sooooo hard. I’d trade my Corolla Hatch in for that.
I want an evo 9 wagon!
Or a nissan stagea!
Camry wagon expensive as f*.
As a Subaru wagon owner I’ve been waiting for this video!
Wagoon Gang chain 👇
@@FitmentIndustries an 07 Forester count's as a wagon right?
@@CheckeredPony no they do not. Foresters are SUVs....so sorry
Got my 01 leggy waiting for this one lol
2002 WRCB Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon
We definitely need more fast wagons in the US
Big facts 💯
But any wagon is a fast wagon with a big enough turbsky
@@PenguinGuy and a bunch of other stuff, just a big turbo doesn’t make it fast
@@reaganriddle but the bigger snail makes bigger noises. More noise = more power 🤣
@@PenguinGuy lol
I just bought a 2019 Golf Sportwagen with manual transmission and I couldn't be happier. SUVs have their place, but they mostly suck to drive. We need more wagons!
As a Volvo wagon owner and general wagon fan boy, I'm glad this video is made.
Same
I’ve got a 98 Volvo v70 t5.
Nobody at my work is into cars and they don’t get why I would choose a 25 year old Volvo estate over a shiny new boring suv.
I love it. Best car I’ve had. Comfy, good handling, cool looks, safe, spacious, and fast. What more could you ask for? 🙂
I’m loving the fact that the S124 wagon was shown so prominently, almost made me forget how under appreciated they are. Also should have shown the IS300 Sportcross
Definitely since I have a sportcross
The fastest IS300 in Texas is a black Sportscross and it's pretty fucking cool
I get so much hate for loving wagons, I'm so glad you made this video
This is a pretty simple question to answer, the rise of suvs killed the wagon. The rise of crossover suvs was the nail in the coffin.
Crossovers are tall sedans nothing else I hate them with every fiber in my being but I guess it makes any enthusiast car pop all the more
@@redlight3932 it's annoying when yoy have a low to the ground performance car and can't see shit cause every car is tall
@yasha good things SUVs are slow and shitty, and easy to pass.
@@tzinskis They're not REAL SUVs though. Crossovers are just minivans in DENIAL. Made for the aging parent or the midlife crisis-having 50 year old. Wagons are honest: they're extended flat roof sedans. AWD and 300+HP is appreciated.
@@br9760 Actually, crossovers are lifted wagons.
I think wagons will make a comeback.. history repeats itself 🍻
Them new Volvo wagons do something nice for me hopefully more euro wagons get brought over
Wagons are a good middle ground, always did like them and finally pulled the trigger on one not too long ago. A 2002 Lexus is300 sportcross, love it so much! Where my sportcross owners at???
the 4th and 5th generation honda accord wagons are such underrated wagons😮💨
This dude, I’ve owned two so far and I love them so much. I’m trying to get my hands on a CM2 or CM3 at some point in the future
Wagoon gang for life, baby.
True, True! Lol
As an owner of a 2012 Acura TSX Sportwagon (that I autocross in STX) & a 1993 Honda Accord Wagon, I do love me my wagons, even had a 2003 Subaru Outback 5 spd before it went kablooie. The last US wagon I can think of was the rebadged Opel Insignia wagon, the Buick Regal TourX. A BADASS 4 banger with a turbo & AWD. Killer!
Aye let’s goo, awesome to see my wagon in the vid 🖤
💪🔥
I freaking love wagons, now if I could just magically turn my magnum sxt into an rt that would be amazing
You guys missed out.over here we had the holden commodore wagon. The VE and VF wagons looked soo good
Nobody:
Alex: “somethin I didn’t get a whole lot of, tender, love, and care.”
Everybody: same 😅
Wagons are just the good middle ground between a sedan and a suv. It's just practical and sporty. I have an is300 sportcross I love the storage space but also like the look of the wagon over the sedan.
I've also got a sportcross! 1 of only 78 ever sold in Canada
Aye sportcross gang 🤝
3:55 It's nice to see Rambler getting some well deserved love
Thank you for this video! Great history context! Born in the 60’s my family has always had a wagon. Fast forward, I love my Static Audi B8.5 Wagon build. Tons of looks and compliments
Ford Focus Mk1 Wagon owner here. Thank you!!!!!!
Well at least in Denmark, people got crazy with station wagons over the last 10 years. When Leasing cars began to be a thing every one suddenly needed a bigger family car.
The floor price for station wagons are way cheaper than coupe/cap’s. And a bit cheaper than sedan even. It’s also cheaper to spec out station wagons.
So company’s started max spec.ing cars and when they hit the used car-marked, they were a hit because cars in Denmark are usually base models. We used to import 1-2 year old cars from Germany, to get some more tec in the car for the same price as a new base model in Denmark.
I wonder what they would do to a last generation Dodge Magnum, or its Chrysler 300 S Touring successor, let alone the Cadillac CTS-V SportWagon or Buick Regal TourX Wagon?
Wagon is life, my daily is a Focus ST wagon. Been waiting for this video.
I love my 2022 E 450 All-Terrain lifted wagon. It has a great inline 6 with a mild hybrid electric motor and most reviews clocked it under a 5 second 0-60. It also has 3 level settings and lifts in Off road and Off road plus. It is the only wagon now that has a real facing seats in the back for children , so it is a 7 seater. When the back seats are down it also has 64 sq, ft. of storage capacity. This while being a beautiful luxury car with great tech. And with a lifted air suspension it has a extremely smooth ride.
Love this vibe lol, I'm new to the car enthusiasts community and honestly wouldn't label myself as one yet. However I have recently bought a year 2000 BMW e46 and can't wait to add some mods to 'er. Definitely think I'll find myself scrolling your guys' page to find some quality parts I'll be needing!
Sounds like you’re a car enthusiast to me. You don’t have to even own a car to be an enthusiast, you just have to appreciate them, and it sounds like you do to me. Hell, you’ve got an e46, one of THE enthusiast cars, and you’re gonna be modding it, so you’re all set. Welcome to the club
If you find it entertaining watch some races there's a type of racing for just about anyone, welcome to the hobby friend.
Wagons are friggin awesome
They drive like a car with a good clearance like an SUV
I sure miss my 2010 Volvo XC70...it trudges thru heavy snow like its nothing
What happened to wagons?
You mean something happened to wagons? I wonder while we have 4 wagons at home..
I swear you lot are in my brain. Every time I think about something you guys are on it within a day
Need more info on you’re b7. That’s what I currently drive and I absolutely love it. Glad you maxed this video
B5 owner here✅
I grew up riding in one of the old school wagons with the 3rd row seat that faced the rear of the car. So you could look out the rear window and stare at people behind you lol.
As an owner of three E46 wagons and an E61, I appreciate this video
As a Swede wagons are the most common type of vehicle here.
I my self own a Mercedes E63s wagon
I wish Lexus would do a wagon. There's been some really amazing sketches of the new is f that someone did and it looks so believable.
Here in Sweden, wagons are very common.
I even own a BMW E61 530i Touring as my daily and I love it. Good looking car, lots of space and quite powerful for a daily.
i am happy i was able to get my vw golf alltrack before they stopped selling news ones. can't wait to slap some coilovers and see if i want to still run the fifteen52s or get a different set of rims. it's just a pain to get parts for this car but hey, that's what makes it unique.
Drove a clean 96 Accord Wagon for about 5 years but I just sold it and got a Mk3 Golf. Loved that car and got a lot of compliments on it :)
DUDE!!! What about all of the sweet JDM wagons? Datsun 510, Toyota Corrola's, Toyota Corona and other sweet early wagons.... There are freaking hard to get now. Not to mention super cool to fix up and roll in. Great vid and look forward to a 2nd wagon video, of the old school wagons. :)
I LOVE my 2002 Subaru Legacy GT-B wagon. Right hand drive, twin turbo, all wheel drive. Even with coilovers, my Swagon was the workhorse for hauling a buddies stuff for his move. Carried more than 2 SUVs. 🤙🏻
Building my 2006 e350 wagon! Great video 👍
I just picked up an Outback wagon as a daily.. I'm hyped to finally get a wagon
I personally miss wagons and hatchback cars that aren't SUVs. Had a Dodge Magnum back in the day that held all my hockey stuff and had a fun 5.7 V8. Now I have a Mazdaspeed 3 and I had forgot how useful a hatchback is in general. The fun hatchbacks/wagons are the best dailies. Enough power to be an idiot while also having enough space to move around people and groceries easily.
YES! I've been waiting for this one😁
Love wagons, need to come back. Had a B4 Passat VR6 5spd manual wagon and my current winter beater is an SF Forester 5spd. I want more wagon options.
The scene for Wagons are so barren. I have two Wrx Wagons and I’m glad i do because i see none around
Actually bought a e46 Touring recently. I used to think wagons were ugly but they grew on me in the past 5 years. Specifically the BMWs, but that could be because I'm BMW fanatic and love them all. I also like the Audi wagons.
Miss my s6 wagon
Hey! Nice video! I´d love to see a video about our beloved SKODAs here in the Czech Republik ... regarding this video we have a SKODA Octavia which is like THE wagon. Its not super powerfull, but it isn´t lame and the milage it gets is just crazy... old legends say, the milage on skodas was so good, that when driving a skoda octavia you were instead generating fuel and had to stop by every 100km to empty your gas tank! :D
We’ll definitely work on getting some more global diversity of cars in these 👌
@@FitmentIndustries Can't wait! 🤩
Around a few months ago I entered university and saw that someone drove a Volvo v70 R. I looked like a whole kid admiring it while no one else understood. Wagon lovers are a small group and it’s the sad case. 😔
Love that damn thing .
Wagon gang 🙌. Ever since I bought my b8.5 audi allroad I have seen the wagon community and it’s awesome. We need more wagons
i swear you guys make a video about whatever im thinking about, started thinking about getting a wagon 3 days ago
I think I've always loved wagons. My mom used to have a Volkswagen Quantum with a manual transmission when I was a kid in Brazil. It was an awesome car. Now I own a 2012 Acura TSX Sport Wagon. I freaking love it. I wish they came with a manual, but they're pretty rare so at least it's nice to have something unique.
Rare as hell . It’s literally one one in my town . I break my neck everytime I see it.
As a E91 owner this has been needed!!!
Alpina still makes some pretty quick wagons, keeping the trend and those amazing 20 spokes, AND THE AMG HAMMER WAGON! PURE INSANITY :O
I have no problem loving my BMW 535xi wagon! And my N54, now rebuilt, maintained, and tuned... loves screaming back to me!!! Wagons are such great vehicles!!
The fact that wagons are such a rarity in the US upsets me. I loved my e39 wagon, and I'm in the market for another wagon now. BRING THEM BACK.
This is the video for me! Wagooooon gang checking in, 6MT RWD E91 here. On KW V3s of course :getin:
Saw a Magnum widebody slammed on Forgiatos outside buffalo wild wings. Couldn't stop staring at it. Note: This was parked next to corvette slammed c8. Turns out they were buddies hitting up wings together. Was left in awe while my wife rolled her eyes going inside.
LOVE A WAGON! You forgot to showcase the wagon Buick has that looks remarkably like an Audi... LOL
I have an Acura TSX Sportswagon idk if it’d be considered to be up there but boy do I LOVE it! It’s just a gem of a car and it’s makes me feel extra special not seeing one or rarely seeing 1 on the road
Those are dope man! Do you have anything done to it? Or is it mainly a daily? -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries it’s currently all stock and is the daily. I like to give it a clean stance with some bags in the future for a flush look. I would actually like to see what you guys recommend that would fit the car best!
Wish my e46 m3 came in wagon here. Wagons is what people with stuff, people, family’s, activities need. Most don’t need an suv, but of course have been brainwashed.
Just bought an 02 v40 and love it
I've always loved Wagons, that's why I own an IS300 Sportcross now :)
I very nearly picked up a 1990 Ford LTD Wagon 5.0L about ten years ago. I couldn't get the cash together for it, though, and someone else snapped it up. Always wanted one of those cars
I just bought a 2006 Mazda 6 GT wagon over Christmas/New Years.
If I could afford a RS6...
Used to have an Accord wagon. Loved that thing. Ran an early 90's mustang in it pissing off a couple high school kids 😎
I JUST bought an awd Magnum like 2 months ago... waiting on a bonus payout to refresh/mod it.
I'm definitely going to need to drop this on some nicer wheels and get something like an H/C/I/T build on it. 🤙
No idea what that is but it sounds like a plan!
@@negativeindustrial headers, cam, intake, tune ... or turbo? 🤔 not sure on final goals yet, gotta make sure the compression test is good, then make sure I won't explode the transfer case.
Wow, first time being early in a fitment industries video
🐐
I really wish they would start making wagons again, I've always wanted one.
My current project/daily is a Lexus IS200 SportCross wagon. Upgraded from the saloon. The fact the front passenger seat becames a table, sold it for me 😅...Not forgetting it makes for a fun drift missile given it comes in manual with an LSD and acres of space to put bolt in a supercharger or turbo 😁.
I really hope wagons will have a comeback.
Also I just bought a Nissan Stagea WGNC34 RS4S from the year 2000 (Yes I'm not from the US, I'm from germany).
Which is a Skyline Wagon with an RB25DET Neo, AWD and a 5 speed stickshift.
Oh and an R34 front swap is done too.
YESSSS! Stagea's are awesome! Hope you're enjoying that thing to the fullest! 🤘🤘🤘 -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Thanks 😊
this would be posted the day I list my e39 wagon for sale 😮💨 it’s already been tough enough to sell and then this!!
I would kill for the rs4 avant in the states. Or if caddy made their v models as wagons again
Ahhhh yaaaa the wagon episode, im still building my e46 330i wagon right now I still need to do the wide body after I finish getting all my interior back from getting redone had it all recovered in mtec hurricane fabric
Very intrested to see how the Americans view the Wagon game, me as a German cant look around anywhere without seeing a Wagon. They are litterally the Go to Vehicle over here , even i bought an A4 avant (b5) becouse they are so damn Practical.
Very intresting to see how things worked out for you.
Started with B3 Passat Wagon as my first car. AFter that B5 Passat and now C6 Audi Avant. Gotta love them or hate them
I think they’re cool but where I live Pennsylvania the lack of ground clearance and stiffer ride is not really great unfortunately, if I was going to sacrifice comfort I would get a cheap suv for a daily and a real sports car for the weekends and I think that’s what fucks wagons over, they’re not good enough at any one thing as they’re too big/heavy to compete with a proper sports coupe and they’re too low and sporty to have a comfortable ride when the road gets rough.
@@griffins5655 air ride on those Audi's. Even with huge wheels is extremely good
@ Oh I don’t doubt that it’s good, but when I hit a massive pothole at 45-50 mph in my 8k SUV I don’t have to worry about bending my or damaging my splitter because my ride height is so much bigger, even if I might feel it more in my shitty suv. I mean an RS6 Avant as much as I love them would never have made it down the driveway at my previous house because it was super rocky and rutted out from erosion, not to mention long and steep). So as much as I prefer a wagon of an SUV there are some inherent advantages that an SUV has over a wagon unfortunately.
@ I mean here’s another example, the other night I was coming home from HS and as I crested a steep hill prolly going 45-50mph (sounds fast but thats actually the speed limit on this backroad since its all but straight) there was a tree down in my lane with maybe 15-20 feet in front of me. I had no time to stop so order to avoid smashing straight into it I veered into the other lane (thank god there were no other cars coming) but I still clipped a large branch that was sticking all the way across. Had I been in a station wagon I would have probably done some serious damage to either my splitter or my front bumper, but since I had the ground clearance and big tires of an SUV (I drive an 08 XTerra, currently saving for to import an AE111 Levin this summer🤞) I didn’t even get a flat, although I stopped to make sure of that before I kept driving, that’s how big the branch was.
The CTS-V Wagon is still one of my dream cars!!
Love Alex with the new fancy spicey English 😂🤔
I got myself a wagon as a first car. (A Renault megane 2). It’s sturdy as an old horse and with a healthy 200nm of torque and 100bhp and loads of space and next to nothing diesel consumption, it’s the perfect car for a first just to cruise around and go anywhere I want to be honest. Wagon gang
Did not know the focus wagon is still being made..... might have to buy one if I'm able to 😅
I used to own the Subaru legacy gt with a big turbo and man I had so much fun in it. Honestly wagons are the best of both worlds between SUVs and sedans handling and driving
Love my E30 Touring! Can't wait to start Daily driving it again next year. Can't afford CTS-V wagon so I'm shoving an LS6 in my E30 and making the pour mans CTSV with crank windows and no AC lol
Wagons rule!
Here in the uk you still see loads! Granted most are bottom of the range diesel variants.
But there is still many Amy’s, rs’s. 340i’s! Golf r’s, skoda superb estates running basically golf R set ups……….
It’s a fun time! Wagons for all!
Don't forget those good looking JDM wagons! Legnum, Stagea and Legacy wagons 👌🏻
I think, wagons, sports wagons, station wagons, luxury wagons, hatchbacks, lift backs, hothatch, and pocket rocker hatchback needs a major comeback and bring the trend back. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 especially for Japanese auto makers, they make excellent vehicles when it comes to all types of wagons and all the types of hatchback.
You missed one wagon that was sold till 2020 in the states made by GM. The Buick Regal Tourx was around for three years and from what I could find wasns't that bad. It was just an Opel with Buick branding and a little American tuning the suspension (softer), but it wasn't bad looking overall.
I wish had a CTS-V wagon, but have a sedan because of costs. Would really like to have a Vista cruiser with a LSA under the hood!
I've been looking for a wagon and I really like them now and I don't know why 😳
I still call the nowadays hatchbacks wagons since I'm used to hatchbacks being small, vs the big ones these days
There are still small hatchbacks
Here is list
Daihatsu tocot
Suzuki alto works
Honda N one
Suzuki lapin
Mazda carol
could y’all please do a “So You Want…” or a “What fits…” video on the VW Passat?? especially the B7 passat (2010-present)
It’s the dream to be a part of wagon gang, The time is approaching and I wanna make it worth while. Now I just need to find an e30 touring
We have 3 German wagons! Golf estate, octavia estate, a 1996 Audi A6
I bought a 2018 regal tourX (rebadged opel) after my A4 kicked the bucket, it's the best car I've ever owned, unfortunately it was discontinued in 2020 for lack of sales. Such a shame, becuase it was never really advertised...
Thank you linus car tips
Reminder that the best performing 90s jdm wagon was the legnum VR4 - wagon variant of galant VR4. 280hp and the same AYC the evo got! Also sexy af
I’ve always loved the Japanese wagons with front end swaps. Like having a Stagea or Legacy with with GTR or JZX1000/Chaser front end swap. I’m also a big fan of the BMW E30 and AMG Hammer wagons. They always look so good to me. That new Audi RS6 Avant wagon is so sick too with how aggressive it looks. I’m also a fan of that one Honda Mugen (idk what it’s called) wagon featured on Driver to Driver. They’re very practical too…but not all of them are that cool as the ones I mentioned.
Japan had a lot of good wagons, my favorite has gotta be the Mitsubishi Legnum
there’s a dude who works in the same strip mall as me and drives an old volvo wagon with the seats that sit backwards and he has 22s w/ spinners on it and he’s the worst and i’m obsessed with him
Mann those SRT Dodge Magnums looked the part outside the JDM scene
An spanish brand called Seat is still making affordable wagons that look very sharp they are basically Audis without the high price tag but decent enough interior and QC.
Yes! They sell them down in Mexico and i've seen them cruising. They're pretty cool. Sad we dont get them stateside. 🙁 -Edgar
I was damn close to buying a 70's oldsmobile hearse one time 🤣
Volvo 850 T-5R wagon. In yellow. My favorite. Needed a manual transmission, though. Shame on Volvo for not having it as an option back in the 90s.
