Very nice you covers a lot of ground. My battery power will go down and up by itself. The battery light is on since I had a jump and a new charge. I will check the belt and watch this video again so my mechanic will understand me. He will probably put it on a computer. Thank you so much I know I'm a new subscriber. Great video and very informative. It would be useful to have another video talking about early signs that the issue with the battery may come up e.g. whe you turn the car on and it doesnt start straight away but has a little click-over pause.

Just for future reference and to further elaborate I would prefer to check in following order battery , battery connection and battery terminals and if you have verified this you could do an alternator removal put it in your bag take it to the nearest auto pats store and have it tested most of my stores do it for free.I appreciate it!

My 97 Pontiac sunfire with new battery and alternator only engage the alternator when weather is cool around 70 degrees Fahrenheit but if the weather goes up around the upper 90's the car will only run on battery charge and alternator will not engage. Any idea to where to look for the cause of this problem?

I had just replaced alternator, belt and for a friend and he had replaced the battery. 2002 Toyota Avalon v6 180k miles. Only thing I did was put negative terminal back on new battery. We drove around for awhile and when we got back we sat in driveway a bit and car dropped idle down and shut off last night, very dark with no flashlight. All my keep saying is something shorted his new battery out and he was gonna have to buy a new one. This issue from what I have read at 4ish in the morning but after all the problems it could be, I went out this morning since it was light I checked battery terminals negative side was tight and my friend had tighten positive side when he replaced battery, I turn terminal so it made a tighter connection and his car fired up. So for both terminals at O'Reilly Auto Parts $8.99 + tax. Another cheaper then replacing new battery. What I learned was to always check someone else's work so they want blame you for there new problem.
Nice tutorial man. Quick question, do you know if the alternator and water pump are driven by the same belts? My battery light is currently on and stays on, plus my coolant levels are acting strangely. Maybe my belts for my alternator and water pump are ready to go out? What do you think?
Every car I ever had, yes, the water pump and alternator were driven by the same belt. Not sure what your car's doing exactly, but a slipping or failing belt would prevent the alternator from charging properly, AND prevent your water pump from working properly. This might cause the coolant to overheat and boil off, especially if you have a small leak or an older car with an overflow reservoir.

I replaced my battery my battery cables and the alternator and battery light stillness on and off. It will come on for 10 min than off for 30 min than back on and so on what would cause this after replacing everything to do with battery and alternator 2008 Ford edge

Yessss i had a auto zone gold duralast alternator and battery light pop up faulty alternator I GOT A OEM DENSO IT WENT AWAY BUT you also want to check main fuse to make sure it didn’t blow out especially Toyota and Honda cars

My 2011 scion xb battery sign was flashing for 2 days than remained steady , voltage started to go down and car shuts off, that was not my battery it was the alternator that I have to change.
The same thing happened today my 2009 Pontiac Vibe. The vehicle eventually died though. Thankfully, right when I made it home in the driveway. It's at the shop now. Did an alternator replacement fix the issue? Just curious, because they will probably call me Monday afternoon to let me know what it was, and how much it's going to cost me.

Only on cars older than 96 newer cars its not good to do.thats old
Newer cars have alot of electrical components and it's not a good idea.
Just grab a multimeter put it on 20 DCV and put the prongs on the terminals with the engine running if your getting 14 volts --- 15 volts your alternator is charging.
I've seen that a battery that 12.5 volts. This should be enough to start a car, but under load it failed.

No bring it to a good mechanic in your area to check it. You may get stranded if the car doesn’t start.

No faulty alternator get a oem denso you will be fine and also check your main fuse ! To see if it’s blown if so change it
@@slimmbabyy6841 In certain Mazda vehicles, it can be a certain computer called the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) which will cut the alternator in a system error. Stupid design, but cheap/free fix by resetting the PCM software at the dealer. But outside of that unique situation, everything else does normally apply.

This happened to me today, I smelled some burning odor & thought that it's from the other car, but to keep myself safe, I turned off the radio & aircon and opened my wondows but. Soon enough, the battery engine light sounded & the lights are on the icon I prayed & drive less than the max speed hoping to reached my mechanic's place. Made it to their place in 25 mins since the light was on. Sure enough, I have to leave it with them. Happy long weekend!

Battery faulty never show light on, don’t replace battery unless is faulty, most likely is going to be alternator blown fuse wires or module

Reman alternator installed 3 months ago, bench tested and passed. Battery light is on. Had battery and charging system tested at local auto store. Alternator was pushing out 14.5v

Depends on the make of your vehicle. If it is a Ford and you use an after market alternator you might need to go get yourself a Motorcraft alternator

the battery light on my dash is not really that visible but it has that red dim glow. Comparing it to the e-brake light, the e-brake light is lighted normally when it is engaged. Does anyone know what could that mean?

I have recently taken my car to the dealership to have them check battery/alternator. Battery light coming on and off for two weeks or more finally stopped on me had a jump drove fine for a week then nothing. Dealership said need new alternator didn’t want to pay astronomical price so sent to my mechanic, he charged after being towed to him and said everything looks good he let it sit overnight and would check next morning. Next morning he did battery/alternator check full charge I drove it home returned new alt and belt to auto store. Drove today battery light on and off again my son drove tonight car cut off! I’ll need second opinion to check these things you’ve mentioned none of this makes sense

Clean the battery posts and cables nicely, if posible grab a small piece of sand paper and gently scrub the inside of the terminal cables loops to make sure they are shinny and make a good contact. I also read that there is a mega fuse that may went bad ($5.00) fuse..

hi i m having very strange problem i applied wd40 on injector and starter relay but did not dry it and start the car resultantly battery warning light came on that alternator stopped charging after that its on problem with its own battery when i start it with other cars battery with leads its ok batteyr light goes off and sometimes on its own battery also but most of the time with its own battery start battery warning light came on in dashboard and if i start the car with push of some peoples help alternator doesnt start charging can you pls guide me ?
