Donkey's actually my favorite Eddie Murphy role. Donkey's the perfect marriage between voice actor and character, and it's a role that's tailor made for Eddie Murphy's talents. Shrek was a big childhood favorite of mine. I watched Shrek a lot when I was growing up. And watching the movie, I never forgot Donkey. He was one of the few things that kept me coming back to the movie. He's that perfect contrast of being irritating to the main character, but never reaches that point with the audience. I agree Mike, Shrek is a pretty funny movie, and some of the biggest laughs in the film come courtesy of Donkey thanks to Eddie Murphy's unique line deliveries. I mean, how can forget lines of dialogue like: "WE CAN STAY UP LATE, SWAPPING MANLY STORIES AND IN THE MORNING... I'm making waffles!" And again, it's because of the way Eddie says that line that it's so funny. His chemistry with Shrek is also wonderful, and when he eventually grows to understand Shrek, Eddie nails those parts as well. He makes you believe that his character can form a romance with a dragon, and he caps off the movie wonderfully with his fantastic rendition of I'm a Believer. And he continued to be great in the sequels. Especially his rivalry with Puss in Boots in the second film. The Shrek franchise has grown to massive heights, and introduced us to a lot of beloved fairytale icons. But Donkey will always remain my favorite of the bunch. And not only that, but he'll always remain, my favorite Eddie Murphy role. Whenever I think of all of Eddie's various roles, Donkey's always the first that comes to mind for me.

This is the best Shrek movie ever next to Shrek 2. Those are the only two Shrek movies that are truly the best movies in the Shrek franchise.
