I just bought one for 175 dollars. With 2 controllers 2 sensors. I’m installing now. I’m like a kid at Christmas hahhah
Good man enjoy it! 😃
traded my nintendo switch for the same setup about a month ago. dont regret it one bit.
BE SURE TO learn about the free included Oculus debug tool, with it, you can increase the SuperSampling onnthd CV1 screens!. I have a CV1 and a Valve Index and in so many ways still I prefer my CV1. With a really good GPU, you can run supersampling at 2.7 even 3.0 and then the CV1 looks AMAZING , sharp readable text,. The CV1 is friggin GREAT. I have average IPD and I do the FOV mod (get rid of the plastic facial interface insert and put a replacement pad from eBay etc, right on the device itself!)
@@NextWorldVR yes definitely! Now the fov mod I'd like to hear more about. That one is new to me
Oh same i buy mine in person tomorrow for the same price.
Short answer: yes
New short answer: hell no, buy a quest 2
@@avgredditmod With the quest you need a link cable which is 80$ plus and hard to find because it sells out, without the link cable you are using the headset's specs. It's not bad but there's big difference, if you play vrchat on the quest most of the avatars are not available and some of the worlds are either not available or changed drastically i suggest people to wait till there is gameplay shown of vrchat on the quest 2 and make your choice.
@@grasshopper8618 I saw these kind of comments about 999+ times and no, *you do not need a 80 dolar cable* there are oculus link cables for about 20-30 dolars which works perfectly if you do not know about a thing fully don't just comment about it.
@@forcemuhai4278 Regardless , i still think the CV 1 is a good pick up in 2020. Oculus cannot ship their headsets to some of the countries including mine. Here websites instead of selling them for their real price 399$ they sell them for 500$-600$ which is too much and our only option is to buy it second hand and from the same city in order to test it to see how it performs. I've also seen 999+ comments say CV 1 is not a good pick up but they are all wrong , CV 1 is indeed A GOOD pick up in 2020 for starters because of the cheap price and reliability
@@grasshopper8618 yeah I have the same problem, oculus doesn't ship to me so I have to order it from amazon so it's like an extra 160-170 dolars.
i just bought one!!!!!!! my first VR headset I'm so freaking happy. I loved your cat btw.
Good man! Thanks, she's a lovely little girl that's for sure :)
Lol omg the cat was so adorable!
Honestly, You can’t beat a CV1 with 2 sensors and both touch controllers for 200 dollars on OfferUp. I finished Alyx last night as a result. CV1 is the shit! 🤙🤙
Spot on mate! :)
Getting one tuesday for 80
@@lemonadegaming8865 there ya go! You’re gonna have a ball. All these wireless headsets have everyone tripping when they find out their limitations. They’re cool and all but desktop vr all the way!
@@suburbanwhitedad7338 hello! im planning to purchase this headset. i see only positive comments about it, and i find it way too good to be true.
Could you pelase list me all problems you've faced during the use?
@@CoreyVesta literally zero.
This was actually really helpful. I was wavering on what VR headset to buy as im thinking to getting into it, and this video actually helped me out alot. Im really pleased with what it has, and Im looking forward to it. Thank you, and keep up the good work!
You were very helpful into making me buy a CV1 a couple of months ago, hundreds of hours later I'm back to watch the whole video, subscribe and like it as you got straight to the point when I needed someone to. Thanks for that!
Happy to help mate! :)
Ironically im watching this exactly 1 year after it was made. You helped me in choosing the cv1, it cost me a bit more, but I got it for 240 with 3 sensors, touch controllers, and origonal boxes. Its on its way in the mail!
Fantastic review. I've had my CV1 for about 2.5yrs now, bought it second hand for £250, full kit with a ton of games off my mate (I was very lucky, he had a baby and need the dosh). I don't have much to compare to as far as the newer HMDs go, but I have always been very happy with what I got. Everything from Lone Echo to Asgard's Wrath and now No Man's Sky, it's basically plug and play, you're off into another world!!! It's a great recommendation and I only see my self replacing it when the next generation of HMDs are substantially better. Good work, cheers xD
You got a great deal! 😃 Exactly my thoughts mate spot on!
@@KarlGosling Got yourself another sub too. Keep up the good work.
@@Nemoticon very much appreciated thank you! 😃
not really plug and play but yeah
Hey man I was totally happy with my Oculus CV1 purchase so far
Thanks so much for making this as detailed a video as you did, you're a much better salesman than even even you probably think you are!
lol thank you mate! :)
Thanks for the video, I just got one and am waiting for it to get delivered, also I like that you keep it real and dont censor yourself
Thanks mate! :)
You definitely deserve more subs my friend. Very well spoken and pleasant to listen to. I'm buying one of these from my buddy and I'm excited
Thanks mate very kind!
just ordered a refurbished one at the Oculus site(US) a few minutes ago thanks to this video. Thanks for the info and looking forwarded to it. The ETA delivery date was within 5 days from ordering.
Hope you enjoy it!
I love my CV1. I got it last year, I agree with your thorough review. You can super sample and improve the picture.
I do, great HMD even today!
Just bought one from the pawnshop with original EVERYTHING, including the box for $100 bucks.
Great video
Perfect! 😃
So they must have bought it for 20 bucks or something.
@@mrcontroversy222 not at all. The manager is a good friend of mine. It was originally priced at $280 bucks, but the guy who pawned it, got a loan for $100 bucks. My boy gave it to me for the same price as the loan. I spend alot of money in there and at the same time I purchased a asus predator helios 300 BRAND NEW for $500. All in the new box, just no power adapter.
Found the adapter on amazon for $60 bucks.
Thank you for the video! I just bought one based off your review and some others. Yours was the deciding factor, so I appreciate ya.
Thanks for the detailed analysis it's allowed me to make an informed decision and I am now going to buy this version of the rift!
Excellent! 😃
Really good video! I was on the edge about buying a CV1 but you managed to convince me. Only regret is that I didn't get one sooner, its so much fun
Glad I could help!
"short answer yes" me what a god making it so i dont have to watch the full video but can if i want to other people ar eusally like wait to the end making me want to skip to the end but no im gonna watch the whole vid
Doing my best mate thanks! :)
@@KarlGosling keep it up you are doing just fine
That made me be even more interested in watching tbh
what is this guy saying?
So I got what you said at the start and then I lost you...
I got a cv1 for $250 with the box, 3 sensors, 2 15 ft cables so I can walk around and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I’ve been sinking a good 2 hours a day on it since I got it a week ago :)
Nice vid man, You deserve more likes!
Very kind thank you! :)
Still good coming into 2022... My First, and I LOVE it.
Great vid! thank you! I was hesitant of picking up a CV1 as my first headset but this definitely reassured me im making the right choice until I upgrade both my PC and to another headset
You won't be disappointed mate :)
Heyo cv1 owner here! Picked it up a few years back and it has done me good. Just bought my quest 2 and it’ll arrive soon! Also! Highly recommend you buy a third sensor it’ll make your life much easier for full room movement XD
you just earned a subscriber with this video. I thought about the same thing, but you just made my own thoughts way more clear to me, thanks a lot!
No worries thanks mate!
Thank you! I wanna get an Oculus Rift in the future! I was thinking about getting a Windows Mixed Reality one, but I changed my mind. Also sneaky cat at 6:15
This will be a much better experience than any WMR headset for sure!
She's always sneaking about in the background somewhere! 😆lol
Great video Karl, I agree with pretty Much everything you said (having owned a CV1 at release).
They did get so much right with the CV1, it’s a shame that more of these features didn’t end up on the current generation headsets as standard especially the quest.
One thing you forgot to mention regarding the Rift CV1 is that most roomscale play areas (even fairly small ones) will require at least one usb 3.0 extension cable to get the tracking cameras in the right paces (because they all need to plug into your PC). Depending on length these may need to be active USB cables. Also HDMI and USB 3.0 extensions for the headset are needed too if you have a larger play area. If buying second hand you might get lucky and they might be included.
This is awesome, super cool video and very informative, and I like how you handle all the information, makes it very entertaining! Sadly they aren't even near cheap where I live, but I hope to get these sometime in the future. Very cool!
They do seem to be quite expensive in different parts of the world 😔
Just bought one full kit for 500 canadian
Thank you for this video! I was thinking of buying a wmr headset but now I bought a cv1 for less then a wmr!
Good choice!
I have an Index and CV1, I WORK in my CV1 (90% of my VR time) and if I'm doing something specific, I'll hook up the Index, but my CV1 (with the Debug Tool for Supersampling) is enough for me! Not many drawbacks.. Light, easy to work with, lots of buttons! I could wear CV1 24/7 but the Index is SO HEAVY, I can't stand it,.. Small sweet spot too, CV1 is all sweet spot...
Great video mate keep going, just brought one of eBay for £165 and it’s only been used once I’m so happy it’s my first headset
Decent!! :)
I'm late to the party but im really considering getting into vr and this review still is soo good for making an opinion on the subject!! Thanks to you for this wonderful review and also id say buyers guide!!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Good video. You hit all the important points. I've had my CV1 for two years. There's still no other headset that I'd want to upgrade to. Index is close, but I hear mixed reviews on the knuckles and the screens aren't OLED. If I'm spending $1000, I want perfect. CV1 is still awesome.
Totally agree mate, that just how I feel about it and the Index too.
just putting it out there, i have tried on a index and the 144hz refresh rate warrants the price, it is so much better than the cv1 and the oled doesn’t even make much of a difference
@@TaintLuva I don't have an issue with the price and I also like the screen (res and FOV are great), it's the falling controllers and that most decent games even with a 2080ti won't run at 120hz let alone 144hz.
I'm really thanking you for this video, I was looking for a video exactly like that :D
No problem!
My first VR Headset was a Quest 2, I sadly had to sell that, but now I'm buying a CV1 found a really great deal for 70$ with 3 Sensors and still in good condition
I really should have bought a CV1, I love playing Beat Saber and its my main game so screen door is not a problem, and i have had many issues with my rift s, tracking issues, play space keeps resetting, play space *not* setting sometimes, weird visual glitching from VR layers not being rendered properly, basically any error you can think of, i feel like £400 was wasted, could have a CV1 for cheaper and had a better VR experience.
Great Video, wish I saw it ealier.
i was looking for an oculus quest or rift s, without even noticing the normal rift. great vid!
Thanks mate!
so whats better? i found a cv1 for 180 euros. Is it better than quest and rift s?
@@bruhg3450 I ended up getting the Oculus quest 2 so I don't know exactly if the cv1 is worth it. Sorry. But I would definitely recommend the quest 2. You need to be careful ful when ordering though. I heared some regions have manufacturing issues. Also sorry for my bad English
Just got mine!! I love it! And good vid bro
Thanks mate! Enjoy yourself, they are great! :)
Also for those with older CPUs, I’m running my CV1 on a i7 4820k with a 1080 .. cpu overclocked.. and it works.
Man your cpu and gpu arent old at all and are compatible vr
Thanks for the review Carl. I'm from Russia, I took it for $150, he's still coming to me. There were doubts about the choice (I was looking at Quest 1 and S), but after your review they disappeared. All the best.
I want to entry in VR so much bc of Half Life Alyx . I think i will get the CV1 instead of a WMR
I definitely would choose the CV1, way better all round experience!
WMR is cheap but _sucks_

Thanks for watching!
My VR arrived yesterday just setting it up now, I can’t wait to start my vr journey. This video made me want to buy a cv1. I got one for £197.00 perfect condition used twice. Came with, 2 sensors, 2 controllers and obviously the headset. Luckily I’ve got just enough money left to buy beat saber!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@KarlGosling I’ve been playing with it and I must say I love it this is my first ever proper VR experience!

You just got a now sub :) I love your vids! Keep up the good work!
Cheers mate thank you!! :)
I got one in 2017 and it still has no problems running high performance games.
My first experience with VR was with one of those a few years back, and after trying the Quest 2 recently, it didn't feel all that different or objectively better, so I'd stick with the cheaper option, if it supplies my gaming needs.
The video quality is great! Don’t bother getting another camera. Thanks for the helpful video :P
Thanks mate! :)
Best Buy I made in 2020 legit changed my life
Thx for the advise! This helped me a lot
No problem!
I would also like to add that with every sensor you add you end up taking more and more USB ports from your computer. Keep in mind a setup like his would require three USB ports just for the three sensors plus one more for the headset for a total of four USB ports and a spare HDMI port.
you technically only need 2 sensors, works just as well id say.
Well done mate, great overview I just got one same pack as you. Hope it works as it was from Ebay.
Fingers crossed mate, great setup even in 2020!
what a fantastic review, thank you very much
My pleasure!
Great vid, very informative! Looking at picking up a used one and this was a big help
Happy to help mate, you'll love it! 🙂
Thanks brother ... I Already love VR - got my oldest son the rift s and youngest has a wmr headset... I really like the oculus much better than any of the wmr headsets out there, and I have a 72mm ipd, so the adjustable ipd on the cv1 is really an important feature for me
@@seanh5763 Ah excellent! :) Yeah WMR Headsets are not very good at all for room scale VR, with that IPD the CV1 will be perfect, the Rift S has a slightly better resolution but most other things are actually better on the CV1 :)
Good to know! I’m supposed to be picking one up later today for $140 USD... only 2 base stations/cameras, so I may add a third of the two don’t do it for me. I also like the cv1 has an OLED screen compared to LCD screens most others have.
Picked up my rift cv1 today.... turns out, the guy I got it from NEVER USED IT! He bought it last year new, and his pc wouldn’t handle it, so it sat for awhile then he decided to sell to buy a quest.... so $140 usd for a brand new rift with 2 sensors, never used... I couldn’t be happier
Nice and comprehensive review, made me wanna get one.
Go for it!
@@KarlGosling There's one in my area actually. Any idea if the FB account thing will limit some use with Steam?
I’m a sim racer on a budget, so I pulled the trigger on the cv1 for $172 plus shipping & it’s coming tomorrow🤘🏻So I’m nervous lol Thx for videos🏁
Enjoy mate! :)
thank you so much for this video i was thinking of buying the windows mixed reality but when i saw this i decided this instead Thanks!
WMR is a long way off this until the Reverb G2 gets released, you made a good choice!
I was testing Oculus Rift for Rent maybe 2-3 years ago. I wasn't regretting it. I was buying a Lenovo Explorer but i didn't workt out for me because it was feeling just bad for my eyes and hat. Not really motion sickness but simply not so good like the Rift. So when i was looking which one i buy now years later it was really hard to decide. Didn't want to spend more then 500€. So i struggelt to buy one Oculus Quest whith Link... but in the end i was looking on Ebay and decided to geht the old Rift that i tryid before. So hopfully i don't regret of buying it when it comes :D Video helped a bit to geht the thought away "old tech for 233€? Hmmm.." but well.. i think it will be fine ^^
Just bought a CV1 with two controllers and two sensors for 130 dollars. I was actually looking at an S but my new laptop doesn't have Displayport, only HDMI which kinda means no S model for me. I had no clue the older model was so cheap and still very workable!
In many ways it better than the S.. controllers, audio, tracking, OLED panel.... Just not as high res.
i have one since 2018 and its great
Excellent! :)
i just bought one! for very cheap (120, with touch controllers). I'm so excited :D
Have fun!
cheers karl buying one tomorrow
Excellent! :)
I agree with this video. The original is a perfect headset for the price of used. I've used mine for 1 -2 years now and I love it. I've also bought the rift s Wich isn't worth it because then u basically lose the very good audio and manual ipd adjustment for the new strap Wich I don't really like but you get built in sensors Wich are like the only good thing about it. One thing to also know I'd the mic is sorta rubbish.
Absolutely yes, the tracking is unmatched. Sure the Resolution isn’t the best, but it’s 90HZ! And like I
Mentioned the tracking is just UNMATCHED
Vive and Index tracking are equally as good, if not a little better technically.
@@KarlGosling I have both, I never have trouble with Rift tracking, however, I never NOT have trouble with Index (pawn flying across room, hands flying across room tracking is a mess on steam.. I have 4 Rift sensors, perfection.
its 2021 now and I also bought one it came with three sensors as well as wall mounts I can't wait to receive it, I can't believe how cheap it is for everything you get I paid only $200usd it's my first time getting into real vr also
how was it? did you find the screendoor effect problematic?
Someone reccomended me this headset for starting with VR. My computer cant handle this and i'm Australian i can only really find VIVE stuff but this looks like just an amazing buy.
I've had one since 2017 but recently the left eye stopped working, so I thought I'd get another headset. After weighing options and how much money I had, i just got another one instead of upgrading
Good video.. only thing that was overlooked was that after about 30 min. Or so playing, it gets pretty hot.. I keep a fan close by to help with the heat that the headset produces...
In the summer I run air con but in the winter I don't really notice a problem I think we produce most of the heat, it's only a very small OLED panel after all! lol
I love your dog In the background :)
Dog?! lol
great review. THAT CAT THOUGH
She's a little beaut! :)
I’ve had my Rift CV1 since August 2019 after upgrading from PSVR and it’s a great headset! But unfortunately there’s been some issues I’ve had with it. My cable with the headset broke within 4 months of owning my Rift and I’ve had and I’m already on my second cable which may mean I’ll be on my last cable and then it’s going to die. My built in headphones also broke but if I’m honest I’m not really bothered as I just bough external headphones for it. One of the things that do bother me the most is my headsets mic quality and sadly I have the rift with a muffled microphone and it’s really not great as some people find it hard to understand me in game chat or discord as of how bad the state of the microphone is but I’ve also now ordered a new mic coming soon but it’s a shame I had to buy one as with my first month my rift had a crystal clear microphone. Despite those flaws there’s pros about the Rift CV1 such as, great tracking though having 2 sensors, comfortable controllers, headset itself has a good display and is fine after long playtime and someone who uses the rift for hours is fine with it.
RockyDaRebel I got mine for June 2019 for my 16th birthday. Still using it now, no issues here. I got a third sensor and a PC upgrade for Christmas, the sensors mounted on the walls.
But yeah, no problems. I had issues with the headphones at one point but realized it was just because the headphone screws were loose, so I tightened them.
Does this rift work on roblox?
