Wow! Thank you very much. I stumbled upon your channel today and am learning load. Thank you for sharing your time and many talents! All the best, Chuck
Thanks for sharing this, I'm a traditional sign writer and have wanted to try this stuff for a while. Excellent site, clear and detailed, just what I needed.
Hey Paul, good info here. I'm still in the process of gathering equipment, but hopefully in a few months I'll be able to get started. Thank you, thank you!
I know for the white gold with palladium aka superior and the 24k leaf is what my work uses for exterior signs where there is no protective layer because the don't tarnish or rather at an extremely slow rate even exposed to the elements.
This video turned out great Paul! This is now a perfect resource to refer back to. You really cleared up my gold leaf questions. There are so many choices. The 1 shot paint has been almost impossible to get in the popular colors here in the US. They say it is related to supply chain issues. I don’t know how a sign painter could stay in business without sign paint… Strange times we live in. Thanks for sharing! Thanks for the shout out too🙏.
I can vouch for the US gold leaf company. My work uses them as a supplier for their gold leaf and i have purchased from them as well. But shipping takes a week unless you pay priority shipping
Thanks very much for the video! Question: have you ever heard of an alternative to gelatine being used for glass gilding? I don’t use animal products in general but am really struggling to find an alternative!
Hi, unfortunately there isn’t a substitute product as far as I know. I was in contact with some vegan sign writers and they’d been experimenting with different solutions but unfortunately none were successful
I use 5 mil on almost all my up to A-4 size. I have grabbed small picture frame glass (with the frames) for a single letter sample of reverse images, but never chipped or edge work ... great post Paul... side note>>I love the book in front of you (Smith). I even own the original hard cover. 🙂
@@happygilder By the way, thanks for the book links... never seen Signwriting Tips, Tricks & Inspiration before...had to order it from England ... not here in Oz. thanks again
Hey Paul - love your vids, been working my way through your stuff and learning as I go, can’t thank you enough for the time you put into all of these! I’ve got one v random question - I’m on the hunt for those little blue squares you put underneath your pieces of glass to protect them/raise them from the surface beneath but not sure what to search for. Do they have a name? Sorry if it’s an obvious answer? Cheers :)
Glad you're enjoying the vids! The blue pads are put on by the glass manufacturing company when I buy multiple mirrors. I've never bough them myself but this is what you're after: www.wholesaleglasscompany.co.uk/shop/foam-transit-pads-3.2mm-thickness-blue.html
Hi, I couldn’t price a job for you, but I have made a video about commissions so I’d recommend checking that out. Here’s a link: ruclips.net/video/RZB4T1Logm8/видео.html
Hi, I deleted my acid etching video last year as it was too dangerous to have on a public platform. I've made a new version using products that can be purchased from amazon. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/41HM6-UUYok/видео.html
@@happygilder First of all, thank you for your kindness. But I finaly found where to buy acid and mica. Thank God I remember how, so not big deal. Thank's
Hello, great video, i am a total novice and looking at some basic kit, i am vegan so i am struggling to find equipment thats doesn't use animal products, do you have any recommendations, gilders cushion, gilders tip, gelatin, gilders mop & glue chipping glue all appear to be animal products. I would love to hear from anyone who has ideas on what i can use
Hi Tony, in my most recent video I make a gilding kit using products that are vegan friendly. Unfortunately there’s no substitute that I know of for the glue or the gelatine. Back when I was on instagram i was in touch with someone who was testing alternatives to gelatine but they gave up after lots of tests because it was too expensive to continue with
Thanks You Very Much!!
