Hope you enjoy
Hi
I just wanted to say I absolutely love your methods in the garden.....no flaffing about, just very basic and effective method's and in great detail that I can understand.
I also like it that your children get involved.
Thanks Mark, totally agree, i don't think gardening should be unneccesarily complicated or pricy
Hi Monty- can"t believe I haven't found your channel until now! I have been watching your vids for hours this morning (i'm an early bird). It started with the ginger ones, then to compost then.... I am an old allotmenteer and have grown veg for years but I have learnt so much! THANK YOU!!!
Hiya glad you found us 😊, sounds like you really put some time in 😂.
Another great video! Hope you enjoyed the chilies!
Looking forward to the new growing season. Had 2 basket of fire plants last year. Wow they’re very hot 🥵 . Got lots of different seeds for this year. I can start them now? Thanks for your videos. So natural and real.
What have you got? Chillies/aubergines now is a good time, a week or two band tomatoes will be good. I'll do a video next week on what to grow in January
I’ve got , big Jim, Piri Piri, African Birds Eye, pepper Anaheim, and a few saved seeds from Aldi chilli 🌶. I saved some basket of fire seeds too. They took forever to germinate but came good. Huge amount of chillies on them. Frozen them whole. Should last a long time. Thought I’d try a few different ones this time. Giving my son a few from each pack as he has a sunny kitchen windowsill he has been growing different chillies on. My new greenhouse is going up as soon as the weather improves. So I want to start my heat lovers in the house. I look forward to your videos about what to plant month by month. I’m in South Wales, have 4 raised beds, and 7hens and one rooster. Thanks Sue
a very intriguing tip about soaking seeds in tea! If I have trouble with germination I will certainly give it a try!
It's quite a good little trick that can save a lot of time
Just trying the tea tip today, I know I'm a bit late but hopefully it should be ok insha Allah..thanks for the tip
Inshallah it will work, i sowed some more this week
I'm seed starting all my hot peppers this week, so I'm glad to see your tea soaking demonstration first. Giving hot ones a 10-day head start over sweet peppers. Virginia USA.
That's great, quite a few people have reported back good results so would love to hear how you get on
A old man who has a allotment once said he put tomato 🍅 seeds in a flask with two used teabags and the water temperature was 20 degrees centigrade,, and then 24 hours later he put them into pots of soil with a lid into the boiler cupboard and they always worked out 👍🏼👍🏼 great video
Thanks 🙏
Boiler cupboard, such a great idea
Great idea, I've always used my boiler to germinate my seeds but this year managed to get some heat mats, the advantage has been consistent heat so helps germination
Love the tea tip, never heard that one before! Passing on a tip for you is that willow water (i.e. soak willow branches chopped int i inch pieces in water for 3 days or so) acts like natural rooting hormone for cuttings and also helps reduce stress for plants when transplanting them. All the best to you and your family.
Thanks for the tip, we've used willow water before, but my neighbour had his tree cut down
Thank you sharing and thank you for sharing the tea tip will be sure to try it out
Good luck with it
Great video, thanks for the tips! Was bit worried I over brewed my tea but I was amazed at how successful this was for me - all my chilli and aubergine seeds have germinated on day 7 in my heated propagator (just a small cheap one). Also tried with cauliflower seeds which remarkably began to germinate after just 4 days. Hopefully they’ll do well. Thanks again and love your channel.
James that's fantastic to hear. Quite a few people have reported back with good results, males me very happy
New sub here! I've never grown chillies before, but your video has encouraged me to have a go 😊👍
Beware, chilli growing gets addictive, on top of these i've just ordered another 5 varieties lol
Great how to on saving seeds, Monty.
Take care and stay safe,
Rob
Thanks Rob, hope you and the family have a great start to the new year
Thankyou for sharing your tricks and knowledge 🙂
Thank you for mentioning lighting and leggy plants. I am a new gardener and you give great advice
Thanks Jacqui, leggy plants are not always the end of the world most can be fixed. I've done part 2 to this video recently
Diolch o galon o Gymru. Huge thanks from Wales. Loving the tea tip. Love all your growing tips. I'm totally addicted to growing chillis. Never tried the tea thing! 🙏🙏❤️✌️🏴

Great video thankyou. Looking forward to being able to buy some chillis from you 🌶🌶🌶
Thanks, are you in the UK?
@@MyFamilyGarden yes in Shropshire
Great video guide. Some excellent tips. Thanks mate 😊
Great tip I’ve just done the tea trick with my Kashmiri dried chillis thank you
Good luck, please let me know how you get on
I really enjoy your videos, and I have learned lot. Thank you!
I'm glad you benefit from them
Another great video, thank you!
My horticulturist aunt, who lived in the south of England (I'm in there north of Scotland!) used to plant her tomato seeds at this time of year. I've not been brave enough to start mine quite so early, but I'll try it with the chillies!
Hope you and the family have a happy New Year. 🙏
I'll be planting tomatoes next week ish, otherwise we end up with loads of green tomatoes at the end of the season. With leggy plants you can plant them deep or take cuttings and root them
I started all my pepper seeds indoors in my kitchen by a very sunny windows all of them sprouted and growing well 😊
That's awesome
@@MyFamilyGarden thank you
Thanks for the great tips. I can't wait to put them to use.
Good luck, let me know how you get on
Thanks for sharing Bhi 👍🏼
Wow, what a great tip for growing chillis. I often have such trouble with germination. I will give it a try. Thank you so much.
You are very welcome
Many thanks tea tip is brill
Thank you for the advice. Very clear I think I'll give it a go
Good luck with it, keep us updated on how you get on
@@MyFamilyGarden when you are waiting for the seeds to propagate do you need to water?....apologies I'm a total novice
@@Marc-lx1qj not a problem, keep the compost moist but not wet if they're dry they won't always germinate
Great tips, thank you! Going to try them. I can't stand chilli's, have all sorts of allergies but my daughter will love them. All the best to you and your family, a happy new year to you all.
Sorry to hear about the allergies, i strugle with the hot one's but my wife loves them. Happy new year to you and yours
Thanks for sharing your lessons learned. And I loved your Star Trek reference.
Lol so far you're the only one who got it :)
Thank you for providing excellent and informative video's. It's nice to have information on how to grow different vegetables in cool/cold conditions that we have in England.
we can grow a lot of stuff but some things need that extra bit of care
Thanks brother...you've reminded me i need to sow mine..great video 👍
It's a good time to get them planted because they take so long to mature
Great advice . Going to give it a go .
Best of luck!
Great upload Mothin! Hope all is well
Will try this year the tea method 👍🏻
Good luck please keep me posted
Fantastic video.
Another great video, I will try this tips, thank you for sharing
Good luck, let us know how you get on
Happy new year, hope you have a great 2021 growing season!
Happy new year to you and yours
Awesome update
Thanks 👍
Thank you for the video.
You piqued my curiosity from the later video, so I hopped over to see this one. Very interesting about soaking seeds in tea to mimic what happens in nature when seeds are spread by birds, (and other animals, I suppose). I think I will give it a try!
Glad you came over. It's a cool little trick my mum taught me, so goes back a long time.
Very helpful bro. Thanks
Alhamdulillah may Allah grant you barakah
@@MyFamilyGarden it’s my first time trying to grow chillies and your video was super helpful. Just natural. Jazakallah khair. May Allah also grant you barakah
Great tips 👌 I'll give them a go. Thank you
Thanks Gary, good luck
Really good, practical info! Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
You took the seeds out with your hands on? I think that was a good call brother, always keep your hands on.
Happy new year to you and your wife and family too 🎊🎉
And to you and yours
Oooo I feel like planting seeds now! #Peace ps thanks for the tea soaking tip!!
If you can give them a protected space it's worth doing because chillies take so long to grow
Thanks, some great tips here... especially WASH YOUR HANDS! I've come a cropper in the past thinking that a quick rinse under the tap will do. 😢. I'm going to try your tea trick for sure. Cheers 👍🏽
The rinse always fools me 🤣🤣
Good luck with the tea, let me know how you get on
@@MyFamilyGarden Will do chap. 👍🏽
I soaked left over dry birds eye chilli seeds in Epsom salt and planted them and not knowing if they’ll grow. They’re growing and on heated mat. I’ll try the tea soaking method , much cheaper 😃
MaSha’Allah mawlana sahib ,I’m looking farward to your seed planting videos in coming weeks
P.s can’t wait for your gourd videos I’m a big fan of them videos 😂👌
Inshallah, i'll let you know when i get them up
@@MyFamilyGarden inshallah
We set ours on top of the fridge works great. Hagd.
Another good idea
I set mine and put the pots on an old baking tray and put that on top of my Fridge Freezer.
They'll get plenty of heat from there
@@MyFamilyGarden I started growing them on top of the fridge /freezer several years ago and always get a good germination rate.
Thanks for sharing l will do the same to👍👍👍👍
Mashallah, barakallu feek
Oh what a great idea! I’m going to try 🌶🤩👍
Good luck
Nah then lad, you sound like you come from near me in South Yorkshire. I usually set my chillis off on heat mats, but like you sometimes I forget to label them. Last year my mate ended up with a reaper, and I ended up with some Apaches instead of vice versa. Good vid, I have subbed and belled.
Yeah gre up in Shefield, the labeling always causes me issues lol
Good video 🌶
Hi why you should try winter sowing in milk jugs or water bottles outdoor have a nice new year 😊
It doesn't really work for me, by the time the plants grow its too late in the season
good morning, need to ask you how long do you leave the chilli seed in the tea and is the water hot or cold has im trying but nothing happening . thank you and keep up all the good videos
Soak for about a day ish in like warm tea. The biggest problem with lack of germination is heat, the soil needs to be 20c for good germination
@@MyFamilyGarden thank you
Can you help us plan out for next year if don't have a green house.... Do you plan to grow cauliflower and cabbages, if so can you do something about that
Do you have space in your house to start seeds? I'll be doing a month by month growing guide soon
my Pakistani friends ..would always make tea with milk..in a pan on the stove.. i liked it like..
Yep that's the way I do it if I have time, add cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaves yeah man
Good morning Mothin. Thanks for all the information brother. I hope everything germinates and you get a great start for the 2021 growing season. Happy New Year. Best wishes Bob.
Thanks Bob I hope they do well. We had our first snow today. Hope you and the family are doing well
Hope you and your family have a safe and Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Ali, hope you do too.
video came just when i want to start growing chili pepper.
It's a good time to get them started, they need that long season
Good idea if you haven’t got a greenhouse,as some one mentioned on facebook
Hello Mothin. Great information brother. I hope everything germinates and you get a great start to the 2021 garden season. Happy New Year. Best wishes Bob.
Do you think I might be able to germinate seeds from summer harvest. Very dry. Have a few from year before too... naturally dried
I think they'd grow, that's basically what I planted, all the seeds in the cups were from chillies that I took the seeds from and dried
Are you planting any ocrah and bitter Mellon.
It doesn't really get warm enough for okra, I'll plant bitter melon next month Insha'Allah
Hi, when do you start sowing the seeds and can you use seeds from green chillies or does it have to be the red ones? Thanks
You make it so simple to follow Thank You. How long do you soak different seed types?
About a day
Chilies are the best. They grow for no reason🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
Yep we love chillies
Well done monty 😇
Thanks man, hope the super hots do well this year
MFG great post i start my seeds under 25 watt led the mrs goes mad with me every lamp in the house is used but like you no heated starters but it works great ATB
On top of the fridge works well too.
@@MyFamilyGarden is that because of the heat coming up from the motor at the back of the fridge ???
Yes the back generates loads of heat
@@MyFamilyGarden hi i just found your sight to night enjoyed three so far the soaking the seeds in tea is interesting going to try some apache seeds tomorrow a bit late but going to try stay safe ATB
Which kind of light did you go for? One of the fancy led ones?
This is the light I have
ruclips.net/video/mzumCIRDQ_Q/видео.html
The local plant shop advised to use loose tea not in the bag as the bags synthetic?
Hi there Thank you for the great videos! At what temperature do you keep yourchilies and peppers? I have xtra light for 15hours and keep my tomatoes/peppers/chilies at around 20 degrees celcius. Do I need to put chili/pepper in a warmer environment?
Ps I used the-soaking for a few xtra peppers and chilies =and my parsley :)
To germinate them I keep them at about 22c then once they've germinated they go under the lights until they're big enough to sit in front of the window
@@MyFamilyGarden Thank you. But at what temperature do you keep them after They have sprouted?
@@linematthiesen3569 I don't measure the temperature, just keep it at whatever temperature the room is
Nice to hear someone pointing out that plastics aren't the problem. But people only using them once is. Until the throw away society wakes up we will always have a problem. I work for a local authority in, believe it or not, the waste and recycling department whose head of service removed all plastic containers in the kitchen of the offices but still had job tickets printed off that contained one or two lines of text on a A4 piece of paper! Have a look at the carbon footprint for the 'woven ' shopping bags.
A lot of issues with modern society is that people waste too much when we could get so many uses out of it.
Walaikumassalam warahmatullah good information 👍 brother please stay connected
Scooping in some fresh compost straight from the kitchen. Can you use chicken or steer manure?
for seedlings you don't neet manure
May I do this with pumpkin and squash seeds?
Absolutely, soaking them will give them a really good head start
Thank you, I have the most issues with germination of pumpkin and squash.
I've done a video on a couple of ways of starting gourd seeds they might help, they're essentially the same family
I'll give it a watch, thank you.
Yeh don't go rubbing your eyes I've done that before and it burns yes get them labeled monty 😂 good tip with the tea hope you had a great Christmas and all the best for 2021
Hi mate, hope you and yours are well and safe have a good new year
i saved seed from a thai Dragon.. but..i ended up getting like 4 different sorts of chillis.. i even got a white one. but. they were nothin like the thai Dragon i cant remember if they were f1 hybrid..? they were from suttons seeds.
Could they have gotten cross pollinated?
Thank you so much for this video. I grew a Trinidad Moruga scorpion last year which grew into a 4ft bush. I will be trying your method to see if I can grow a few from the seeds I harvested. Should anyone be interested they are the hottest pepper I have ever tasted. I do have a greenhouse but it's not heated, any idea when I can put them out into the greenhouse?
I'm growing them for the first time this year. I think it'll be at least may time before they can go out
Thanks for response.
Hey Mothin- do you sterilize your compost? We get mold flies in ours that hatch indoors. Just wondering if unsterilized compost makes a difference.
Hi Phil, I've never sterilised my compost. I don't have any stats to back it up but just from my gut, I like to add some garden soil in with my compost so the plants get used to the microbes/climate in their final destination
Someone tagged you in the comments of Saturdays live about a good seed company
Brother salam do you sell bottles gourd seeds I need it badly ,
Walaikum salaam, i haven't sown mine yet so I'll see what I have left after
Assalamu alaikum brother, thank you for the helpful information. What about Bangla Lau, MISTI kodu, Uri, lubi , luffas and other tropical veg, when is the best time to grow them.
Walaikum salaam, I'll start planting all them next month inshallah

Hello my man and fam. Is this method with tea confined to chilli seeds? or can it be used for all seed that are really dried out? many thanks
We use it for any seeds that are old, dry or hard
What planting zone are you in
We don't really use the USDA zoning, but it's about a 7
I meant some one mentioned on this you tube
I’m going to try soaking my aubergine seeds
Hello Rosie Blackmore
Once they are soaked, let them dry a bit on the surface before sowing.
Otherwise they can get ridden by fungai.
This apply to all kind of seed.
May be not in your kind of climate, but here in Spain is common issue,so,precaution would be advisable.
Happy new year.
It's a good way to give them that encouragement to germinate
Hi Pepe, never had that issue, as long as the seeds a clean, normally see fungi when the seeds have other stuff on them
@@MyFamilyGarden Hi Mothin.
Here we have this kind os issue even with comercial seeds, wich here, come perfectly clean and treated against fungai.
May be it is something to do with climate,or soil.
Hope you are feeling better after what you have been through with those racist assholes.
Just watched your video and I found it very helpful.
I started growing my chillies in Feb last year in a heated propegator and I lost most of them. They started to germinate quickly and I was super excited, but they got leggy and I left them hoping they’d survive , but sadly they went to chilli heaven.
I live in Scotland, did I start to early, should I have used grow lights, shall I leave them till April?
Any help is greatly appreciated . Also is vermiculite and perlite recommended?
Thanks.
I started my chillies in December and used grow lights to keep them going, during the short days hey really need the additional light. Because the need a long growing season I'll be starting them this year mid november/early december as most of them only started ripening in september. Either vermiculite or perlite will help make the potting soil more 'fluffy' and easy for the roots to penetrate
@@MyFamilyGarden that has answered my question. Ty. I have looked a T4 lamps producing 98w and I'm hoping that will do the trick.
And good luck to your early planting season.
@@frapple1 they're a bit more expensive but if you can afford it led lights are my preference, they use less electricity in the long run
@@MyFamilyGarden i dont like buying twice, so i will read up and see .
That seems a better recommendation to go LED, which i dont mind paying extra.
@@MyFamilyGarden I've just checked on Amazon and theres an LED 98w unit for £105. Not to shabby.
my family only drink fruit tea, would that work? thanks
I'm not sure to be honest I've never tried it, you could try it with a couple of seeds or just use plain water
👍🏻👍🏻
I remember some ten years ago when I helped to prep jalapeño-like collies for my aunts birthday in Mauritius. We must have prepped about a kilo of these things, in which we needed to cut the chilli in half, then scrape out the seeds. Being the idiot English guy I didn’t wear gloves.
By the time we prepped everything my hands were pretty hot. My aunt told me to wipe my hands with oil, then I used washing up liquid to wash the oil off. It must have got all that oil-soluble capsaicin deep into my pores. I remember holding my hands out of the car wind as we drove down the road. It must have taken hours for the pain to subside.
Moral of the story: don’t be a fool and listen when you’re told to wear gloves when cutting hot chillis.
You can just sieve the seeds out with tea strainer😉
Try picking wet seeds out of a tea strainer and let me know how it goes...🤔
I like New Zealand spinach, but it is really difficult to germinate- will definitely try the tea soaking method!
I've never tried New Zealand spinach, but i have grown malabar spinach quite successfully in sifted multi purpose compost on a sunny windowsill
@@MyFamilyGarden I have got some Malabar seeds so thought I would give it a try this year. The NZ stuff is useful in the summer when normal stuff bolts.

Which very hot variety would you recommend for growing in UK (Bedfordshire)?
I’m looking for something that I’ll be successful with outdoors in pots and that will hopefully produce large yields.
We eat a lot of very hot stuff in our house and make our own sambal.
Thank you!
Look for patio varieties you've got a milder climate than me, i've managed to grow basket of fire, nigel outdoor green, aji lemons, hungarian hot wax successfully outside
@@MyFamilyGarden Thank you. I've just ordered some Basket of fire, Aji lemons, Super Chilli. And I've got some reaper seeds that I'll have another crack at. Tried year before last, and had ok size plants, but only a few pods, and they didn't reach full size or ripen properly.
Reapers will do better in their second year. The hotter ones will need a greenhouse or conservatory
