    I bloody adore Jo Martin. She’s one of the best things about this show. She eats up every scene she’s in.
    It was insane seeing Jack as an RTD era character in this more cinematic version of the show.

    So.. one thing Jo Martin had that Jody didn’t at first was a very clear direction for her Doctor. I think for me this is why this episode is iconic and why I want so much more of the fugitive doctor.
    Jo Martin was heavily inspired by Capaldi btw.

    I love this episode 🥰 Jo Martin is superb & unfortunately not only rivals Jodie as 13 but IMHO outshines her. The subtle clues ("Faithfull companion") she was a Doctor with the hexagonal mirror & Tardis-like windows in her flat are an outstanding piece of set design, just gorgeous! 🥰
    The shock of Cpt Jack's return was gigantic as it was not really leaked by anyone. Chibnall really kept a reign on spoilers on set during his era not leaning into promoting the show (Sometimes too much) something that can't be said of RTD2 the leaks have been coming fast & frequent
    Oh & how amazing is Segun Akinola's music? 🎶

    This was the introduction of what the fandom calls The Ruth Doctor

  • @Casterborous
    @Casterborous 6 месяцев назад +2

    So there's a few interesting thing about Jo Martin's doctor. She has a tardis disguised as a police box, which would not be possible if she was before the 1st doctor. And this episode confirms it as the same tardis because of the line about "temporal feedback."
    There is also a theory used to explain some stuff in the classic series, and a few novels that the writer of this series, Chris Chibnall, read when he was younger. And they feature The 2nd Doctor working for the timelords as a sort of secret agent. It's called the "season 6b theory" and basically the timelord extract the doctor right as he regenerates from the 2nd doctor to the 3rd.
    So my theory is, Jo Martin's doctor is in between 2 and 3 and theres some timelordy timey wimey explination for why her existance doesnt change the doctor's overall amount of regenerations, meaning that the 11th doctor was still the last incarnation of his original set of regenerations.
    Its sorta really complex, but It'll probably make more sense at the end of the series ;)

    • @joshuajoshua2732
      @joshuajoshua2732 6 месяцев назад

      That doesn't make any sense either and for four reasons.
      1. Considering the Doctor has already had 13 in that cycle from William Hartnell to Matt Smith it's 13 bodies 12 regenerations so I can't see how Jo Martin can fit in between 2 and 3 because if that's the case the only one they could leave out is the meta-crisis regeneration since Tennant's Doctor didn't change but that would mean 14 regenerations which doesn't add up.
      2. Also the Third Doctor was in the Second Doctor's outfit after he regenerated and collapsed outside the TARDIS so why would the Time Lord's bother to change him back to his old clothes instead of just leaving him in Jo Martin's costume it would seem like a waste of time to me
      3. The Second Doctor was the first Doctor to have a sonic screwdriver, The Fugitive Doctor has no idea what a sonic screwdriver is so that's another thing that doesn't add up.
      4. That would be disrespectful to Jon Pertwee to put him down as number 4 rather than number 3.
      I always found this season 6b theory complete fanfiction. The Second Doctor regenerated into The Third Doctor and got sent to earth end of story that's it. Fugitive has to be a future Doctor it's the only thing that makes total sense.

    • @Casterborous
      @Casterborous 6 месяцев назад

      @@joshuajoshua2732 well, season 6b isn't really fanfiction, because there are books based on the idea.
      And perhaps the 2nd doctor dies on duty for the timelords, so they grant them an extra "free" regeneration that doesn't count to the overall limit.
      the fugitive doctor also knows what the screwdriver is, she just says she's "smart enough not to need one"
      either way, it makes less sense for her to be pre-hartnell because of everything else about her.
      Also the 3rd doctor arrives in an outfit different to the 2nd doctor.

    • @charg1nmalaz0r51
      @charg1nmalaz0r51 6 месяцев назад

      Thing you are forgetting is that the tardis could have been a police box, before it was a police box in the first episode. It only gets stuck as the police box after that.

      @thomasnieswandt8805 6 месяцев назад

      @@joshuajoshua2732 Your theory doesnt hold up, you got good points, but you can counter all of them.
      1. We learn from the "Cartmell masterplan" the series planed for the 7th Doctor in 1990 (sadly the show was cancelled) that the Doctor is not a Timelord. The Timelords had been founded, by 3 godlike beeings...Rassilon (the one with the power to regenerate), Omega the (mad) scientist who had the idea of Timetravell and the weapons in the Omega-arsenal and "the Other" who was a technical genius who worked out his friends plans. At this point, all of the Timelords where gifted limitless regenerations, but Rassilon made a limit at 12, for all exapt the three. Over time, the Other saw his friends turn mad by power, unable to bare it any longer, he denounced his godlike status and regenerated into the child that would become the first Doctor.
      BTW thats not fanfiction. Sylvester McCoy talks about this in several interviews and in the 1989 series there are hints to this plan. First in rememberence of the Daleks, when Ace asked about the Hand of Omega and how powerfull the "old" Timelords had really been, the Docter smirkes and says "Ohhhh back in the days, we did many things ..... uhm ... i mean, they did."
      Later that season, Ace is asked by the vilain "do you know what the Doctor is?" Ace says "He is a Timelord!" and the vilain shook her head.
      (btw...yes many of this is done in TTLC ....but its done is the worst way possible... i prefere this over C.C.s BS any day)
      2. We never saw the 2nd Doctor regenerate into Pertwee. The Doctor should choose a face for the forced regeneration. Jamie ans Zoe are send back to before they met the Doctor.
      Now it gets complicated. In "the two Doctors" the 6th Doctor meets a very old 2nd Doctor and Jamie! Thats important, because Jamie remembers "War-games" ( Troughtons last story) and has memories of storys that happen during the so called season 6b.
      Also, the 2nd Doctor does have a TARDIS remote and when 6 asked how he got it, 2 sais "You get this, when you work for THEM, you know" and 6 is shocked to hear 2nd work for the Timelords. (the next Doctor to have a TARDIS remote is the War-Doctor, when he works for the CIA during the timewar)
      The fugetive theorie says...After a long life and many jobs, for the Timelords, the 2nd Doctor dies of old age. He regenerates into the Fugetive Doctor, because she still workes for the CIA at this point, at some point she runs away. After they got hold of her, they complete the forced regeneration. They reset the Doctors memory and put him back in seconds clothes. So as far as the Doctor is concerned he is the 3rd Doctor.
      As for the regeneration cylce, we know from canon, that the Timelords can change the number at random. During the Time-War, they grant more lifes to Rassilon and the Master. They restored the Bruce-Master, who later becomes the War-Master.
      3. The 2nd Doctor has "just" a screwdriver. Its not yet the Deus-ex machina tool it will become. So yes, if she is a pre Pertwee Doctor, she will not know what this device does. Also she doesnt say that she dosnt know what it is, she says "smart enough not to need it" BTW the 5th Doctor has the same attitude about the screwdriver.
      4. It wouldnt change Pertwees number. Because she is the "Fugetive Doctor" same as John Hurt is the "War-Doctor" and David Ttennant season 4 is the "Meta-crisis Doctor" even if we only count John Hurt and Davids first regeneration, for this argument, that would mean Eccleston is 10, Tennant 11 AND 12, Smith 13, Capaldi 14, Jodie 15 etc. but no....Eccleson is still 9 Tennant 10, Smith 11 etc.
      On a personal note, it doesnt seem correct, that she would be a future incarnation, by the TARDIS alone. First she has got the classic console room (yes the season 9 modernised version, but still classic) and second she calls the TARDIS "old girl" that was a thing during the classic eara. especally Doctors 3,4 and 8.

    Chibnall has this thing where nobody seems to be allowed to deliver a full line of dialogue apart from the Doctor. Her companions just speak at her, one at a time, in segments,
    Ryan:finishing off.
    Yaz: Each others
    Graham: sentences
    And it gets more annoying the more you notice it, that and characters having to tell us things we have just seen with our own eyes. ‘They’re behind us’, ‘it’s charging up’ ‘it didn’t work Doctor’ ‘it’s attacking him’ ‘the birds are going crazy’ ‘the planes going to crash’ ‘it’s not a gravestone ‘ just stfu please
    Also I find 13 overuses her sonic screwdriver, especially in this episode, she uses it sooo much for pointless things she can see with her own eyes, in one episode she even scans a rock to tell us….it’s a rock. Obviously the tardis could always choose to be a police box and as the Tardis' perception of time is non-linear maybe it chose this form because it knew it will meet up with 13. Maybe it's another tardis and had other reasons. I personally think it's a bit of a lazy way for the writer to show that it IS a tardis without opening it. Maybe there will be an explanation (I doubt it) or maybe he just thought: "there may be loads of reasons, I don't need to give them, I just need a strong optical reveal."

    On Ryan and Yaz, that's Chibnall's style. You said in the first couple of episodes that they feel real - and that's because Chibs writes in that intentionally flat, but real, style. People do talk like that, they don't talk much. And it's the ying yang of this era - some times the down to earth nature really pays off, like how Ryan talks to his Dad in the cafe scene in the New Year special, and sometimes it leads to flat moments that undercut big drama, like in this episode. If you can remember back to Matt Smith's first season, and they go underground and meet the Silureans, much of the dialogue in that ep is similar when it comes to side characters. It's just how Chibs writes. Sometimes it's brilliant and feels really fresh, and sometimes it feels entirely out of place. I think the guy playing Ryan is a good actor tbh - I think he's playing it exactly how he's been told: reserved, closed up, and genuinely quite quiet, how a lot of guys his age are.

You'll get nothing from me about what is going on... even feelings ... spoilers 😜
    Love her Tardis as well... very classic... judoon are always fun... though they repeated similar beats to the Smith and Jones ... in fact this series so far does repeat a lot of series 3 stuff lol.. with the master back, that scene where they had to go into hiding cos of Lenny Henry .. the Doctor being human ...😂
    💯 agree with the dialogue .. but this is an issue I've had pretty much from the start of the era... i know you have said before that you feel they feel like proper humans... for me they haven't due to their dialogue and reactions... ofcourse its not always like that... but if feels more often than not... Bradley Walsh is able to bring his own charm... so he gets away with it more... makes sense...he is the most experienced actor out the lot of them...

Honestly, it's not as good on rewatch, since the surprises aren't as big a shock and scenes like the one with the judoon assimilating the language just feel like a lesser version of the equivalent scenes from Smith and Jones. However, Faye Marsay did in Last Christmas, in one episode, show more character and she's a younger actor. It can't be before The Ninth Doctor and NuWho because we saw The 8th Doctor (Paul McGann) change into The War Doctor (John Hurt) then change into The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) in "The Day of the Doctor" The Fugitive Doctor (Jo Martin) takes place before The First Doctor (William Hartnell) because Gallifrey is alive and well and she has the same type of attitude as The First Doctor and The Fugitive and First Doctor are not familiar with the sonic screwdriver however and Fugitive refers to her TARDIS as a "the ship" like Hartnell's Doctor does the only thing that doesn't add up is the TARDIS and Susan because her TARDIS is a Police Box and it was only stuck that way when The First Doctor (William Hartnell) and Susan (Carole Ann Ford) landed in 1963 london as seen in the first episode "An Unearthly Child" also we saw The First Doctor stole the TARDIS in "The Name of the Doctor" so none of that adds it would make 100% more sense if The Fugitive Doctor takes place sometime in the future and just doesn't remember her past incarnations also bare in mind we already saw 13 versions of the Doctor in his first cycle now where on her second cycle and The 13th Doctor is the second Doctor of her second cycle it's alot to to take in i know but that's the only way i can make sense of any of it.
