I've never seen a machine like that...it's nice and looks stable
Great info
Do the mirka pads fit on 3M or vice versa?
What size thread is on the dust hose? I'd like to print an adapter for it.
can you remove the vac funnel attached to the head of the sander or is it permanently fixed?
Just got the 3m 6”. You’re right. That thing is badass. I’m a 3m customer. For sure. Who isn’t? They get down. They make some quality tools. The welding lense on my 9100xxi is one of the best I’ve ever used. Anyhow. I’m tool geeking out. Nice review dude. Thanks for sharing. Mirka is badass too. Tools are so sickkkkk now!!!🤘🏽🤘🏽we’re lucky as fxck! Ha
do you must use the vacuum ?
Which one is lighter?
I wish the 3M model had a shorter vac connector like the Mirka. Sometimes it can get in the way when you're sanding curved surfaces
Where can I buy one ? I live in Eastern Ontario Canada ? Julien Lamarche
Is the power cord as long as the Festool hose?
Can you exchange the pad from 6 inch to 5 inch so you have two sizes in one on the 3m like you can on the 6inch mirka? I think the 5inch pad is weighted to make up the difference. Are the pads/systems interchangeable? Thanks first review I have seen on it
Thats's why I bought a Mirka 650-CV, with a 130gr 125mm pad so I can make it a 5"/125mm sander as needed. That way I have two 5mm orbit sanders in one. I use 5" paper or mesh which is cheaper on most my projects but when I need to sand a larger area from time to time, I can just switch the pad and use 6" paper. The pad was only $40. I have several Festool sanders, all 3mm orbit and they all work very well, I wanted some 5mm orbit sanders but didn't want to buy two more, so the Mirka was a great option.
I'm not knocking the 3M sander, but their orbits are 2.5mm or 5mm orbits. So, their "medium" orbit is right between a "standard or usual" fine-2mm and medium-3mm orbits. It isn't the end of the world, Mirka is the same on their sanders as well. And I don't know if there really is a standard or normal to orbit size perse, it is just the more predominant sizes out there. Just an FYI.
All the best, Chuck
What do you mean by sustainer?
Any of you knows who makes a good quality 3” sander?
The two things that stroke me ws 1 year warranty on 3m sander and lack of the sander pad brake.
I love the review. I am thinking of buying the 3M Xtract. Can I use a regular vacuum cleaner with one? What size OD diameter vacuum hose will fit into the dust inlet on the sander? Thankyou.
Thanks
so with the 3/16 would you compare that to the rotex or one of the 3/32 sanders, i guess im asking if the 3/16 does it all or if you need a 3/32 for fine finishes ?
Thanks for the video, can you tell me why yours has a 2.5 printed on top, most seem to have a 5 printed on the top of the sander.
That’s the orbit
Does anybody know if this will fit under kitchen cabinets I'd like to get the specs on it the height of it compared to a regular DeWalt palm sander
Way shorter profile than a dewalt palm sander. Like possibly 2” plus more clearance. I own makita 18v palm sanders. Both Makita and Dewalt are about the same height.
Where can I get a mirka for 550$?
@ToolCurve , have you noticed that your sander is getting warm after about 10-15 minutes of use? I bought a 6in and exchanged it for another because it was getting warm and then hot after 30 min of sanding. The replacement that was sent also gets warm and then hot.
Thanks man. Keep us posted.
@@toolcurve update?
I bought mine and I used to sand cabinets whole day, the next day all of us end stop working and won't turn back on, is any way to reset it?
Can't find this one anywhere on web. Is there specific name for it ?
@@toolcurve don't have to apologise for that. Thanks man
Is this sander good for autobody use?? Like prepping the panels for primer than paint. Thank you
I want one for this exact reason! It has a 3/32 orbit perfect for prepping. I’m going to do a little more research.
@@dabunka I will do the same because I need to prep my car for paint!
Yes I have the Festool But I'm looking at getting this one
@@EliasPaintingCo Yes I have the Festool But I'm looking at getting this one
This is a lot smaller than the Festool which I have , the Festool is bulky and it will take time to get use works great tho. But like I said I'm getting the 3m for the price and size
Bro I wasted 1250buks for festool sender and after 1h of sending 40 to 120 grid. It was super hot. I had to stop sending to cool it down as my hand got hot too. Then next day I used 40 grid to remove material after maybe 20 minets put broke . As it plastic to metal and it got damaged
Perfect for a beginner
I just got one yesterday and tried it out. The one thing that struck me right away was how it changed when it touched the wood surface. It takes a half second or so to spin up to speed, but as soon as it touches the wood it looks and sounds like it slows down to about half as fast as it was before it touched the wood surface. My battery Ridgid sander doesn't do that, but this one (that costs about four times as much) does. 3M tech support said that this was normal. It seems to sand well, has very low vibration, and the dust collection is great. I haven't tested it against my Ridgid to see how the sanding performance compares, but the speed reduction just doesn't seem right. Have you noticed this?
Did you make sure the speed is set to max this thing is light years ahead of Rigid sanders
I know of no ros that does not slow some when apply to wood. Doesn’t make any sense that your sander does not slow some under load.
I just received mine today and I also have no speed control coming from the lever, im a little disappointed. Speed can only be adjusted with the digital control. If anyone says it can be controlled with the lever can we get a video to verify?
@@jasonzarogoza5580 I don’t believe the paddle controls the speed at all. Mine certainly only adjusts speed by the digital button shown by number of lights on.
@@jasonzarogoza5580 with the mirka there's a button combo you can press to activate paddle speed control
Hey can you tell me in what country is the 3M manufactured?
Taiwan is what I found iirc.
Why people ask these kind of questions… just fudging go check yourself…
Because people don't ask or care we're stuff,,is made is why China owns the us.john that was rude.
I ordered the adapter and it busted off at the seem and now the threaded part is stuck inside
@@toolcurve ok I’ll do that now
In their wisdom 3M sell the disc in Australia but not the actual sander ..
I hate that we don’t get access to so many tools in Australia. No fixed base router available in Oz for router lifts except for a couple made for tables up around a grand each
A consumer grade $450 orbital sander? Na
It's mirka with 3m logo
@@toolcurve I might be wrong but it seems like the same story with hilti wall sender, basically it's mirka but with hits colours
Cheers 🍻
And the mirka is basically a version of a rupes Scorpio,
3m is a well known autobody sander company, mostly pneumatic, i would be a little surprised if its not theirs
The 3M is made in Taiwan, so it's maybe more like a reverse engineered Mirka.
I had Scorpio E 6mm orbit and it had no guts for sanding with anything bellow P120.. after few months I got refund as the machine felt apart and got Deros that was 4 years back.. sanding with Deros using P40 and no problem.. had it repaired just before the warranty went in year 3 as sander had excessive vibrations.
One of the worst purchases I have ever made, and by far the least reliable tool I have ever owned. The 3M went in for repair FOUR times, the longest took almost 8 weeks. I only got 3 hours of use before the first time it broke. Speaking with the repair center they say they see these in for repair every single day
3M is JUNK - I have bought 2 of these in the last 5 months and they both died. Read the reviews on the 3M website. I talked to the service people at 3M and they confirmed that there all several design issues with the control board. Stay away.
