- 🚚🏠💨 Welcome to episode 17 of Today's Tiny House Parking Spot... we made it out of our super tight LA parking spot and made our way to Northern California. Talk about a beautiful drive! Even though we’ve been through CA multiple times with our tiny home on wheels, we never drove on this stretch road, in far north part of the state. We stayed in a field in Santa Rosa, where we visited dear tiny house couple friends, Andy & Hilarie. They have a fun whirlwind love story.💕 We also saw Jay Shafer, the godfather of the modern tiny house movement. He showed us his new micro tiny house on wheels-it costs under $5k! While in the area, we caught a tiny house advocate training workshop, part of a new series by the American Tiny House Association to help enable local legalize tiny efforts. Local is where change happens. ✊ Then we made our way past Weed, CA to the Rain Rock Casino. They offer free boondocking for RVers and truckers, up to 2 nights. And they have FREE WiFi!

“why-reeka” I lived in Coffee Creek & Yreka was where we would go for Big shopping or Redding. We were 1/2 way to both. Wish we had a tiny house when we lived there. There are so many places to camp or park for weekend stays or to explore then move on all around the area.
I love the fact that this time you showed us yourselves living in the tiny house. The beauty of having a tiny house or RV is that you can pull over and eat or just rest whenever you feel like it. But you scratched the heck out of your friends driveway. I’m guilty of doing the same. Haha. Love your videos. Can’t wait till next Thursday.
Thank so much for the kind words! We been meaning to show more home life, but forget. But more to come. 👍Gotta love always being at home. And you're right, we did scratch up pretty bad! Grateful they didn't mind. 😅
Love your tiny home and enjoyed your moving as well as meeting your nice friends. There are so many places to see and do. Maybe I will see you in the Poconos sometime...i love made locally items and want a place here with lots of nice parking...im working on it and will let you know when it's done. You are genuinely good people. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words, Cherrie! Please do let us know. Heard how lovely the Poconos are. 😊 Cheers!
Yeah Santa Rosa.
You both are amazing loving your positive spirit god bless you both
Thank you, Peggy! ☺️🙏
Thanks
Enjoying following you on your adventure! Can't wait to see Bend; my family lived there many years ago.
Thank you for joining us! :) That's great about Bend! We visited once a couple years back in the Spring, and completely fell in love. Excited for some Mt. Bachelor time. It's a pretty amazing part of the state.
Just wanted to stop in and say hey! Loved the new episode and slowly going thru everything I haven’t had the opportunity to watch from the beginning. I was able to be on live with y’all for a quick work break...happy to catch a glimpse! Love all the work y’all do for the movement. Would love help getting it going more north. I live in NJ. Anyways.....I decided to splurge and ordered a few things from the Home apparel that I had asked y’all about before. I reached out to them and made sure they knew I found them because of you guys and then placed my order! Thanks for all y’all do! Can’t wait til the next episode is released. Y’all be careful on the road! Love from NJ-Jennifer, my 8 yr old son Damion and our fur kid Dakota! Lol 😆
Dog thought bubble @11:01: "The banjo-please make it stop."
Haha banjo is not everyone's cup of tea!
😂I love 🎶...strummin on the old banjo! Fee fi fiddly-eiyo! Fee-fi fiddly-eiyo-ho-ho-ho!... Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah! Someone's in the kitchen I know ho, ho, ho!...strummin on the old banjo!🎶
awesome!
The place is called "y"reka (why-reka) ❤️ I actually live in Eureka. So fun to see you both go through my part of California. ❤️
That makes complete sense! For some reason, our brains couldn't compute how to pronounce it. LOL!
@@TinyHouseExpedition it's all good! ❤️
Ya'll are hanging out in my stomping grounds! I live in Redding, and my sisters live in Bend!
Right on! Beautiful, fun places. 😊👌🍻
Hwy, I looked up state of Jefferson. That is kinda neat. :D
Happy belated birthday! 🙌🏻🎉🎊🎂
There's lots of snow in between Bakersfield, CA and Palmdale, CA in the mountains. So beautiful and quiet . You guys should travel through their some time . I think there is a big lake or river there too.
Great recommendation-thank you! We’ll look it up. 😊
Happy belated birthday!
Thank you!!
Have to have not-so-great times so you recognize great times. Right? Hope y'all feel better.
Couldn't agree more. :) And thank you very much!
Finally YAASSS!
😁☺️✌️
You 2 are a joy to watch. Hope we get to see more of the couple you met in Santa Rosa - and their house. I live 1-1/2 hours south of Santa Rosa and have always wanted to retire in Northern CA. Do you know if there any tiny house intentional communities in N CA?
Thank you for the kind words! ☺️ We plan to release a tour video of Andy & Hilarie’s place in the future. 👍 Good question on communities! Heard of a couple folks wanting to create TH friendly communities up there but sure where. Try looking on SearchTinyHouseVillages.com and IC.org (you filter by housing type). 👍👍 We definitely would love to spend more time up there too.
awesome video :)
Thank you! ☺️✨🍻
So Yreka is pronounced just like it looks . . . .Y REEKA :) Loving your videos , as usual!!! Safe travels!
Thank you! ☺️ So silly that we could not figure out how to say that. But now makes so much sense! Lol
Have you heard of any places in Nevada where someone could put a tiny home? Thanks! Love your channel!
There are some tiny house friendly RV parks. We have documented a private tiny house community, composed of friends (Llamalopolis). Check SearchTinyHouseVillages.com, TryItTiny.com and IC.org (for intentional communities, filter results by housing type). :)
@@TinyHouseExpedition Thanks so much!
Come travel in Canada!!!
We would love too! A couple summers back we had a great but short visit to BC. 😊
There is about 300 miles from Santa Rosa to Northern Ca
Good perspective. We loved hanging Yreka & Mount Shasta.
I was wondering if you have a video of how you chose you Uhaul truck size and why uhaul? Thanks. If you have already talked about it can you direct me to that video. I plan to get a tiny house in a few months and need to know about trucks. Thanks Connie
Great question! Watch our tiny house towing how-to videos. We talk about tow vehicle options and U-Haul in Part 1: ruclips.net/video/qbEYNujWsUI/видео.html
Also in early May we are launching our new and improved tiny house travel online course. Happy researching and best wishes!
You guys are so awesome!! i hope to meet you both one day..Parking spot welcome here for when you come north :)..would love to film a tour of your Tiny House also for my RUclips channel. Happy Bday!
Thanks guys!! ☺️🙏🍻 We'd love to meet-up. Whereabouts are y'all?
@@TinyHouseExpedition No probs! NB Canada for now for when you want to come this way. :).
Tiny House Life niice; beautiful area! We’ll add to the wish list. ☺️
@@TinyHouseExpedition sounds good, see yas in the future!
I always wondered, how long are you allowed to be while driving (length)? Like the the truck and the house?! That's pretty long... Any troubles?
We're about 50', including the tongue-- from the front of truck to the back of our 20' trailer. No big trouble for us, but we've definitely learned much about knowing what parking spots, gas stations, etc. we can get in and out of, and how much room we need to maneuver around. There are many folks who travel trailers that much longer! For frequent tiny house travel, we recommend 20' or less for bumper pulls or up to 24' for gooseneck/fifth wheel tinies. Check out our travel how-to videos. :) ruclips.net/p/PLlvBXhDyr9H0ORrxRVJcZAwSY7zk6nznE
We call it "Why"recka
That makes sense! ;) lol
I’m on a marathon watch of your videos! I’m in Illinois and just found out about the convention this March in Atlanta. Is going to one something you’d suggest? If so is one better than another one? Any tiny home communities in Illinois? I’m not finding any ☹️Thanks so much!
Awesomeness; thank you for watching! ☺️ The Georgia Tiny House Festival in March is a great one-fun community experience with good array of homes and speakers with on-site camping. We went the last two years. Another wonderful event is the Tiny House Atlanta's Festival and Summit this year on Mother's Day weekend. Think we'll make this one. There's two good CO fests happening this summer, and one in AZ in Oct. Follow our event page on our website; we keep adding adding events as they're announced. For communities, don't know of anything right now in IL. But definitely check SearchTinyHouseVillages.com and TryItTiny.com. Plus investigate tiny house friendly RV parks. 👍👍
Tiny House Expedition you guys are the best, thank you so much for such a thorough response. I didn’t know there was one in AZ too! May as well make a trip to a place I love 😂 hope I can say hi to ya at one of these events. 💙💙💙
jai the vegan AZ to be officially announced soon! Hope you can make one or more. We love tiny festivals!
Tiny House Expedition me too!!
It seems like many channels are pulling lots of old footage from before winter to make videos. For example, she was mentioning Bend as a good place to park for Christmas. So either this is quite old footage (and I wish I saw more channels using current footage even if less glamorous), or you plan to stay a long time in Bend? :)
For many months we posted footage from the week before. Very challenging to keep up. We decided to slow down around the holidays, and changed our posting schedule from 2 videos/week to one, so that's why it's a month delayed. Shot in mid-December 2017. The plan was to stay in Bend for the winter. 👍👍
What are you guys pull your tiny house with that giant U-Haul truck? Is it where you keep all your extra clothes and stuff you didn’t want To get rid of? Doesn’t it kind of defeats the purpose of living in a tiny house?
U-Haul is the generous truck sponsor for our on-going documentary work. They lend us a truck and take care of Maine, and we put gas in it. It hauls our 10,000lbs house beautifully. We use it like a mobile shed. It stores bicycles, extra tools, paperwork, etc-only use a small-ish fraction of the space. U-Haul box trucks make a great DIY tow vehicle option for those who only want to move occasionally. In the future, we hope to buy a heavy duty pickup, which will double our gas mileage. Now only about 5.3 mpg. 👍✨
Tiny House Expedition oh my god you’re only getting 5 miles to the gallon with that thing? Holy crap I feel so bad for you!. Hope And pray you get a truck soon! Oh that was really nice of Uhaul!
U-haul for the win!
@@Dsiegel7 thanks; appreciate it! Fingers crossed for sooner rather than later. ;) 100% grateful to U-Haul, though!
Yreka is pronounced like Why-reeka, Eureka is Ur're-eeka and then Ukiah
We have now figures that out. But couldn't wrap our heads around it at the time! Lol
Yeah us Californians are really weird when it comes to names. Some times we try to be all fancy with our names of places like Carmel, Ca but then you go to San Francisco and they named one of the beaches Ocean Beach. Lol
So southern ca
HOLLYWOOD IS WEST ANGELES
Say, "Y-reeka".
Thank you, David! Was coming to the comments just to say that, too! 😜
Hahaha thanks guys! 😆😜 That makes perfect sense now.
What is the difference between a “tiny house” and park model?
Good question! There's definitely cross-over between tiny houses and park models in size, exterior look, and interior layouts, in some cases. Quality tiny houses on wheels are built with techniques and materials like a traditional house. Most park models are much closer to traditional RVs in material quality (like plastic interior walls), but are more substantial in structure and insulation than an RV.
I don't mean to be rude, but there is some inaccuracies in your reply. I've been selling Manufactured Homes and Park Models for almost 15 years. I've never seen plastic interior walls. Sometimes there's wood side paneling on the intro level models. Otherwise everything I've sold has been drywall interiors. There really isn't a difference other than "Tiny House" being a modern name. One of my companies will actually have a "Tiny Home", really called a Park Model at the Orange County Fair Grounds. This model is going to be something people haven't seen anywhere else. Would you be interested in doing an episode on it? @@TinyHouseExpedition
Shane Joffe thanks for sharing! Appreciate your response. Maybe we used the wrong description, we been some that have a textured thin wall. From what we've seen there's a huge variety of varying quality. Your wood paneled park models sound very nice. We would definitely be interested in featuring! Is your company based in California?
did the house drag on the driveway? get scraped?
It did. :/ We raised up the truck with the boards we put down to reduce scraping down the extra steep part of the driveway. No damage done.
Why do you pull with a U-hall truck?
U-Haul is the generous truck sponsor for our on-going documentary work. They lend us a truck and take care of Maine, and we put gas in it. It hauls our 10,000lbs house beautifully. We use it like a mobile shed. It stores bicycles, extra tools, paperwork, etc-only use a small-ish fraction of the space. U-Haul box trucks make a great DIY tow vehicle option for those who only want to move occasionally. In the future, we hope to buy a heavy duty pickup, which will double our gas mileage. Now only about 5.3 mpg. 👍
How often do you have to put gas?
Good question! Every hour and half of highway travel, about every 160 miles. Our truck only gets about 5.3 mpg. If we are able to get a heavy duty pick up in the future, we can more than double that. For now gas is like our mortgage; it varies by how far we go each month, and super cheap when stationary. 😊👍
@@TinyHouseExpedition ok thanks! Yeah, that's a lot for that amount of time. If your going to our home town Portland, OR go to Rimsky korsakoffee!! Look it up awesome coffee desert house in Old House
@@ItsTheseMoments right on; thank you for the suggestions!
Doesnt show enough of the house.
Jay’s new tiny house? We’ll be releasing a full tour video soon. And one of Andy & Hilarie’s house. 👍
Pronounced 'Wyreka'.
Gotcha! We could not figure it out for the life of us, lol.
You guys still in Bend?
We are :)
18 minuted about a freaking parking lot?
Did you watch all 18 mins? We covered our parking spot yes, and our tiny house road life, visiting tiny house friends, tiny house advocacy workshop and our home life...
