hey i got a question why do i run into a lot of brits online that are so anti free speech i was on a youtube channel yesterday they banned me over my name i really do feel like brits are so fast to hand over there rights and i like british people but drives me nuts when they don't stand for freedom
but anyways i am a fan and glad you love america
How can you include :Old Man Zach" in the Data when he died on July 9th??
Here's one you missed: A month before Lincoln was assassinated, Robert Todd Lincoln was caught up in a crowd swell at a train station in Baltimore and nearly killed by the oncoming train. A man in the crowd reached out and saved him. That man was Edwin Booth - the brother of John Wilkes Booth.
balancedactguy He said that Taylor may have caught his fatal illness on July 4th, making him kind-of sort-of inclusion in the list.
Congratulations on your citizenship and your first vote!
Seconded! Bravo, as well!
Seconded! Bravo as well!
I'm firmly born and bred in the UK here. I have to ask, is this gentleman of dual nationality?? I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone, not of birth, would want to become a US citizen?? The rest of the world perceives the US in a very different way than it does itself. Personally, it is a country that would not be on my visit list ever!!
Guns are far too readily available, and America's medical system would absolutely have me running for the hills!! I'll have the NHS any day of the week!!!
@@MargaretTindale I would like to have NHS as well. I think it is the best way to run a health system, even when it is lacking. I am American, but born overseas in Japan, and I have spent years of my life in Wales, West Germany, Germany, and Turkey. I find it fascinating to get global perspectives on the things that bind us together as well as the things that pull us apart. That's why I like this channel. He is British, but has spent nearly a third of his life in the US, so he has his own perspectives on things I find interesting.
@@MargaretTindale The US has problems but you can make a lot of money here compared to other countries, also we have a lot of cool things for tourists to see. Heard of the Grand Canyon? Amazing in person. Pictures don't do it justice
This is what happened in my family. My parents had me late. And my grandfather married late. So my grandfather was born in 1886, but I’m 41.
Same. My grandparents on my father’s side were born in the early 1900s. I’m a millennial.
I was born 1986.
My father was youngest of six and my mum the oldest of five. So my aunts & uncles were born from 1923 to 1960. My father was born after his oldest sibling had had her first child, so he was born an uncle. My cousins were born from from 1942 to 1991
These things happen. My husband's parents were married the same year my father, the older of my parents was born--and my husband and I are only 3 years apart in age!
@@Rosarium2007 Wow, that's a much bigger range than my family. I thought it was weird that my youngest sister is 24 and my oldest cousin is 50-something. The weirdest thing about my family is that, due Grandpa being one of 7 and Grandma being one of 11, my mom has 42 first cousins.
The Ohio coincidence is always insane to me. I'm from Cincinnati and half the public schools there are named after presidents, some of which weren't born in Ohio but happened to live in Ohio for most of their lives too
Bruh given the chance the USA would just be called Ohio but those other pesky states won't let us rename it.
We stepped on the moon first. We share this accomplishment with the entire country, but deep down y'all know it ain't *alabama* doing that shit.
@@RevJRI mean, I don't know what it is about Ohio, but being born there just makes people want to leave the planet.
I should know, I'm from Akron.
@@RevJR The Saturn V rocket, which launched the astronauts to the moon, was designed at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama under the direction of Werner von Braun.
At that time, Cincinnati was one of only a few big cities on the way to heading west. Chicago was just getting started and was too far north to be on the way, so Ohio was a natural place to stop. You'd either stop there as the last big place to resupply, or settle down to capitalize on the traffic.
@OhhCrapGuy I hate to say it but you're not wrong. Weirdly enough I'm originally from near Wapakoneta, Neil Armstrong's home town, and I now live near Akron. I'm just waiting for the cost of recreational space flights to come down. LOL
Speaking of US presidents, Jimmy Carter turns 100 today!
Wow! I have no ill will against the man personally, but he was one of the worst presidents. Happy Birthday to Jimmy!

Thomas Jefferson served as vice president during John Adams' presidency because, at the time, the second-place finisher in the presidential election would become vice president. It was awkward to have a political rival waiting in the wings to take over in case the president died. The 12th amendment to the Constitution changed this, so that the president and vice president are elected separately (and, in practice, are voted for as a slate). This amendment was ratified during Jefferson's presidency, and created the system we have today.
A superstition arose because of Zachary Taylor's death that eating cherries and milk together is poisonous. The mother of my best friend in high school believed this.
Another superstition that hung around for a while, was that any president elected in a decimal year (ending in 0) would die in office. It started when W.H. Harrison (1840) died; then Lincoln (1860), Garfield (1880), McKinley (1900), Harding (1920), FDR (1940), and JFK (1960).
Reagan (1980), and G.W. Bush (2000), however, seem to have debunked that, and Biden (2020) is not likely to bring it back, I hope.
Am I the only person stuck on the fact that someone currently alive had a grandfather born in the 1790's??!!! 😮
Feels very twilight zone like
They each had kids when they were very old.
@@ferretyluv Yeah, they must have been at least 60 each. 1860 grandfather has father, 1920 father has living person, living person now 104.

People seem to forget that the Airplane was invented in Dayton, Ohio. It was only tested at Kitty Hawk, NC, because the governor of Ohio refuse to let the Wright Brothers test it in Ohio.

Adams and Jefferson were also the committee that wrote the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson was responsible for the first draft, with Benjamin Franklin the chief editor.
On the committee, there were five members. Edit does not work.
Franklin was busy with diplomacy in France. King Louis lost his head over his economic policies. Primarily, Versailles and the US revolution.
France was at war with England when the US revolution began.
So, Statue of Liberty, Louisiana purchase, "Cajuns" ...
Blame Franklin.

Thomas Jefferson didn't just sign the Declaration of Independence. He was its principal author. John Addams was a co-author.
Virginia-born Wm. Henry Harrison was a resident of Ohio when he was elected President so maybe it's a tie at 7.5

When he was talking about sociopathic politicians and Ohio 😅
Good job! Just one minor correction: Tyler remarried while he was STILL president, so young Julia was First Lady for one year.
So Tyler had 2 first ladies? It's probably important to phrase that carefully.
Jefferson and Adams dying on the 50th anniversary of the 4th of July is poetic, fate is a strange thing. The coincidences that this country has in its history make you think that there is something else going on.
It would have been a little less poetic if Adams got his way. He wanted the official date of adoption to be July 2nd, the day the resolution for independence was voted on. However, the actual Declaration went through 2 days of edits before getting printed and introduced to the public.
Not a mystical coincidence. They were dying, purposely hung on to see the nation's 50th anniversary, then let go.
Great way to handle my pre election anxiety and overthinking......putting it in historical context and pondering how absurd it really all is
When James Madison was dying, he turned down offers by his doctors to help him keep going until he made it to July 4. He turned them down and died in late June.
Interesting, the two top generals to come out of the Civil War, Grant and Sherman were both born in Ohio.
We've gone from presidential races being decided by Sherman's home state to one about to be decided by the state he burned to the ground.
@@stevethepocket He only burned Atlanta, military assets. But his goal for the march was to prove to the citizens of the Confederacy that their government/army couldn't protect them. It was the first touch of the war to the Plantation Belt of the South, except along the Mississippi River.
Love your videos, and kitty!
one of the Ohio presidents had the nickname of Coffee Bill.. William Mckinnelly Served coffee to soldiers at the battle of Antitiem.
Gawd what a nightmare. Antietam conjures up such horrors in me that I sometimes have wondered if I was a reincarnated soldier who died there. I mean, not seriously, but what a frightening affair that was. To imagine coffee being served in the middle of that. He must have been a teenager!
You mentioning of John Tyler's grandson still living reminded me of the last civil war pension recipient who just died during Covid back in 2020. Irene Triplett who was a disabled dependent (and therefore no limit on how long she could continue collecting it) of a civil war veteran and she died May 31, 2020. I don't remember if it was Covid related or not.
I love your videos! 😊 BTW, your cat is a beauty.
I went to elementary school about fifteen minutes from McKinley's hometown of Canton, and one of our field trips took us to his tomb-which you have to climb like a million steps to get to-and the science and history museum next door that they probably built to encourage schools to take kids there on field trips. It was only later that I would learn just how many other things in that general area are named after him. Ironically the airport isn't one of them. Naming airports after dead presidents is such a tradition in this country, I don't know why no one ever did it. "I flew in out of McKinley" rolls off the tongue so well!
Hi!! 50 years an Ohioan and pass Garfields house 20 times a day!! You forgot music and art!! Our slogan isn't "The Heart Of It All" for nothing!!! ❤❤❤

It's always made me laugh that one of the presidents NOT born in Ohio in that period was named CLEVELAND! BTW, From PA, But Ohio is cool! (Better than ANY state that has Philthadelphia in it) I wish Pittsburgh (Where I'm from..) was IN Ohio instead of PA. LOL.

No, I had to get right to the comments so I could argue with people.
I am proud to say I was born in Ohio and lived there 'till 7 years ago. I knew about president Tyler's grandson still being alive. That's pretty darn cool.
Ain't it weird that one of the presidents NOT born in Ohio in that period was named CLEVELAND?! I think about stuff like that when I'm high. LOL.
As an Ohioan who has lived most of their life around the (mostly-considered northeastern area of the state), Akron, Ohio area, it has always been intriguing to me, how there are so many USA Presidents from this area (there are many local monuments and birthplace restorations)! Thank you so much, for bringing to attention, our local piece in the history of the Presidential candidacy process!
Oh, c'mon Laurence, give the cat some tummy rubs😁
Thomas Marshall, Woodrow Wilson's VP, once observed that "Indiana was the mother of vice presidents, home to more second rate men..."
Or weird laws. Like in my new home state, it's illegal to drive with a live bear in your car.
And, as David Sedaris pointed out, blind people can hunt with a rifle in MI
What's intriguing is how these laws came to be.
I think that is an uncaged bear. It is perfectly legal to drive with a caged bear in your car.
I’m from Ohio and my dad always talked about all the influential people from Ohio: Presidents, inventors, Hollywood celebs, astronauts, etc.
My great-grandfather worked on William McKinley's campaign.
News has always been in the business of influencing political elections. At one time almost every area would have rival newspapers, one for each political party.
My paternal grandfather was 73 when my dad was born. (He died when my dad was 3.) He was one of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders decades before. His father fought in blue in the American Civil War.
I'm not even 50 years old and my great-grandfather fought in the American Civil War.
A large factor influencing the Ohio presidential phenom is the post Civil War organization known as the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) which became a powerful influence on politics for fifty + years following the Civil War
Heyo for Ohio! Not sure how I feel about living here. My state's a meme, and I wish it wasn't.
Anyways,

There's NOTHING wrong with Ohio. Hell, I'm from Pittsburgh, PA for all of my 62 years. Due to sports, "we" are supposed to "hate" Ohio (Silly reason..). Pennsylvania kinda, well SUCKS. I'd rather Pittsburgh BE in Ohio. Would ANY rational, sane person take living in Philly over Cleveland? Having spent a lot of time in both cities I would NOT live in Philly RENT FREE. When my daughter went out of state for her career (teaching) after college she ended up in Sandusky. I was THRILLED for her! (Oh, and I get to go to Cedar Point when I visit her in the Summer, LOL).
Lawrence, I love your scientific graphs. I wish I could of used them in college. Actually they are better than the ones I used in college, back in '62. That's 1962, by the by.
Mind blowing to me is that during Ohio's run at generating Presidents, The one NON Ohio born President who served in office TWICE was CLEVELAND! 🤔 (He was from New Jersey).
And the *city* of Cleveland is in-wait for it-OHIO!

You are absolutely right. The late 19th century saw several presidents from Ohio. And don't forget that some of these men served in the Civil War.
I found out a while back that my uncle was working on the railroad in Marion Ohio when the train brought President Harding's body back to Marion following his death.
How many takes did it take to get Kafka to look at the camera with that perfect expression when you gave the spiel to hit that subscribe button and "Do that _now_"? You may notice many replays of certain parts of the video. It was all to see replays of Kafka. I just love that cat.
J. D. Vance is from Ohio.
Your cat clearly didn't appreciate that remark about sociopaths.
He's not President YET. In 4 years, perhaps!
Thank you, Lawrence, for not wanting 'newscasters' to try to influence or even tell you what your opinion should be. I'll go further and state that I firmly believe that ANY celebrity, entertainer, sports star, newsperson, or similar should, when it comes to politics, SHUT UP. Anything other than that for which they were hired is a direct abuse of perceived power. Thank you also for these videos. I find them very entertaining. I would ask though, what ever happened to the state-by-state place-name series?
I agree with you 💯% that news media should report the news and try to influence us!
Tyler remarried while still in office. Julia Gardiner was 24 while he was 54, and he still had 8 months left in his presidency.
They were interested in each others assets
Ohio presidents died an awful lot while in office as well.
Every 20 years for most of our history
There was a 2nd grandson that only recently died. Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr died in 2020.
Also, thanks for that graphic showing the Ohio presidencies. That made it very clear.

This was illuminating and a very nice departure from the "other" social media pist regarding predidents. I say do a second video!!! Please.
Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Indiana and West Virginia were originally part of Virginia.
Hell, Harding did almost his whole campaign from his front porch in Marion, OH.
Also to this day, the High school in Marion is Marion-Harding, and their mascot is the president.
The Marion-Harding presidents.
I knew my grandmother's dad. He was born in 1883 and died in 1978.
So he was born less than 20 yrs after the Civil War and died in 1978. And I knew him as a child. I remember him
Similar here, my oldest great grandfather was born in 1882 and died a few months before turning 100- he was still working his farm in his 90s! I was 15 when he died and I've thought about how I knew him and it was possible that when he was a child he could have met some in their late 80s or older that would have been born in the 1700s!
My great-grandfather was born in 1897 and died a week or 2 before his 102nd birthday in October 1999 (also a couple weeks before my 33rd b-day). He wanted to live until 2000 so he could say he'd lived in 3 centuries. Almost made it! Kids at the middle school where I work consider ME old enough to be a historical resource because I remember the Vietnam War. A couple of the kids were astonished that I actually knew a WWI veteran (and WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm). I have to keep reminding myself those kids were born 10 years after 9/11.
@@beenaplumber8379 That's sad that he wasn't able to make it a few more months! And yeah, I don't feel old at all, but then I can look back to when I was in grade school and thought teenagers were OLD!!!
starting to think the 4th of July thing is Alexander Hamilton's revenge - John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe all despised him, and his widow joined with Dolley Madison and Louisa Adams to help fund the construction of the Washington Monument, which took out Taylor.

I was born in Akron, OH, and I remember how proud my maternal grandmother was that so many of our presidents were from there.
Ohio's period of producing Presidents roughly coincides with the period of the state's dominance of industry and innovation. I've heard it noted that Ohio had a period similar to today's Silicon Valley prosperity. Money and influence all in one region.
Well done Lawrence Upon-Lost in the Pond!
Growing up in Ohio, the joke about astronauts was that Ohio is so bad people are literally going to space to get away from it. :-)

Hugs and kisses to Kafka and Arthur.❤ Oh, and I really liked the video! 😊

For the US Civil War both the president of the US & the president of the Confederacy were born in Kentucky.
I love the story about Edwin Booth (John's brother) saving the life of Robert Lincoln (Abe's son) a year prior to the assassination. Especially the fact that Lincoln immediately recognized Booth, as he was an extremely famous actor.
There was also a long run of Presidents who were elected in a year ending in 0 who died in office.
I... now realize why so many places are named after presidents in this state. I also drive past Garfield's house quite often and am just like "bum deal dude."
A'reyt Laurence. When you released the video and went on about presidents dying on 4th July, by coincidence it was the middle of the night in UK and also by coincidence, I am sure, I fell asleep before commenting.
For decades before he retired, my dad did a fast-paced trivia talk on the Presidents (he also had one for VPs, First Ladies, and pets). Even though it has been disproved, there is a picture of Millard Fillmore in the guest bathroom, as he supposedly put the first bath tub in the White House. And now, being a friendly old man, when he comes across a left-handed waiter, will ask, "Who was the first left-handed President? He was shot, but not for being left-handed." (The answer is James A Garfield).
This was so interesting -- I would love to watch a Part 2. And congratulations on your first time voting as an American! You picked a doozy of an election for your first time!!
I have always considered that Adams and Jefferson are a personification of the two sides of the same coin. Not surprised they went out on the same day.🤔

Eight presidents were born in Virginia. Seven were elected from there. Seven presidents were born in Ohio. Eight were elected from there. William Henry Harrison was born in Virginia, but elected as president while living in Ohio.
Crediting Ohio with Thomas Hendricks is a bit much. Yes, he was born there, but he grew up in Indiana and was a Representative, Senator and Governor for Indiana.

I usually am glad to hear that Noah Webster simplified spelling and standardized American spelling. But, hearing that he wanted to spell soup “soop” brought out the Jean Luc Picard line, “the line must be drawn. Here, and no farther!”
Helen Viola Jackson (August 3, 1919 - December 16, 2020) was the last surviving widow of a Union soldier and the last surviving widow of a Civil War veteran overall; she died on December 16, 2020, at the age of 101. I reckon there was one person in the VA who managed her account for many years.
"This AI is getting really cursed."
I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I just realized, one of the two tickets in the upcoming election could lead to another Ohio-born president; I dearly hope that does not happen...
Hope there is a Part 2! This was great!
People today rarely have any idea how important Ohio was even just a half century ago. During the time period highlighted by the Ohio presidents, Cincinnati and then Cleveland were two of the largest cities in the country. Ohio continued to be a swing State until 2020 when it solidified as a pro-Trumo State. It continues to be a microcosm of the United States, a representation of the "average American" and a State made up of both urban and rural populations, home to an array of industry, farming, and technology companies.
I wish we were still a swing state…
The Ohioan Vice-Presidents make sense when you think about the importance of the electoral power of Ohio. Having produced many Presidents in that time, the non-Ohioan Presidential candidates probably wanted another Ohioan on their ticket for their election.
They were in their twenties when they signed the declaration. Wild to think about.
My great grandpa died on the 4th of July (not recently, a few years ago).
I would love for you to do a video on the coincidences between the assassinations of both Lincoln and Kennedy. It's kinda spooky.
