I don't dislike it, its just fairly mediocre. Anyone else sings it, it almost certainly wouldn't be as popular. Take 'Mirrors' by Justin Timberlake for example, just a completely bland song that did very well because it's Justin Timberlake

bur i don’t think the acoustic guitar sound is that noticeable. Its barely noticeable. What you’re hearing is actually from electric guitar which is played by the guitarist in the band.

@@redwanhossainrisann You could be right. But I can hear the subtle acoustic plucking and it’s a very Charlie Puth background vibe. He puts it in a lot of his music, buried in the production, and it changes the entire song. :)
There is no classic Ed with every album he's tried something new and that's why he's stayed at the top not afraid to try a new sound or idea, relax and let the man create art it's what he does best.

I only discovered this song today, driving along after shopping. I may be 74 years old, but it really got to me - this young man has a voice of gold and melodies which really hit home !

The released single of this song is obviously auto tuned so i was worried how the live version would sound but its pretty amazing :)
Unfortunately there's a misconception on what autotune actually is and is capable of; most people overestimate it's ability. All artists and engineers use autotune to some degree, often even when performing live
@@Zestyb0i auto-tune is just software that automatically corrects and an artists out-of-tune vocal performance, hence why its called auto-tune. It does help artists a lot, especially the bad ones. Fortunately, Ed is pretty damn amazing whether he uses it or not.
@@Sean-gi5vs It can only do so much though. Unless the singer is only 1-2 semi-tones off key then it will end up too choppy and robotic if an attempt is made to correct it with autotune; this would usually be negated by the engineer just asking for a retake. There's so many factors to consider when looking at differences in recorded and live performances. However it is a misconception that autotune can fix anything and make anyone sound good.
I agree that Ed is a wicked artist with an amazing voice, and using autotune in his case is more of an enhancement from an engineer's point of view to get the vocal take 100% what they want it to be.

I felt the same when Shape Of You first came out, thought a song like this with simple lyrics and melody is boring. Then not long after that I was completely soak in "I'm in love with the shape of you...". OMG This version is PERFECTION! The band lets him concentrate on the difficult soft vocal SO much better than the loop pedal version! I love the loop pedal but for this song the band version is definitely better! band version > studio version > loop pedal imo
