Man, i'm a drummer from California and I have played with a 'cat outta Dayton Ohio who plays guitar named Craig, who told me that he was Sugarfoot's last student before he passed. But yeah this live version is on point like icycles!
It was tough being a white boy who listened to mostly Soul, R&B and Funk in the seventies and eighties when every other whitey was into Hard Rock and Heavy Metal !!! I'm not a "follower" type of person so it never stopped me from listening to great music, Isley's, EWF, TEDDY, Stylistics, Rufus&Chaka, Al G., etc. Nobody had better album covers than OP‼️
1970's music. I love it. The Ohio Players was one of the best funk bands from that era. The horn section, high octane vocals, drums and most of all (Sugar Foot). Wow!!! What a band!
Yes yes mr. Brown, my sentiments exactly. The Ohio Players in their own right cannot be compared to from that era. When you heard them you knew immediately it was them. What a time it was. Even during the early days with Junie. He was the real bomb. Between him and Sugarfoot I was always in stitches!
It's 2022 and I'm still listening, playing and love The Legendary "Ohio Players" They were often imitated but; never duplicated! Amazing trendsetters for the music industry! Most definitely! Love the horns, trumpets, guitars, keyboards & drums! Sugarfoot's singing put the fun, in the funk! 💕🎸 💕🎺 💕
This is the type of old school music that we all grew up with God knows watching this and the way we used to dress years ago brings back so many wonderful memories watching this makes you wish that you can go back in time
For me, this song is what set The Ohio Players apart from other funk bands. Phenomenal jazz-infused instrumentation. Sugarfoot's vocals also blew my mind.
As an ex-sax, flute player from '70's and, true, we have our own preferences yet think about what you said. Sure, it 'sets them apart' and I agree but it's their style! Nobody sounded quite like them. Parliament/Funkedics had their own style, too, yet Players' musicianship, as you said, puts them in my Top 10 (okay, Top 5) R&B& Jazz 'bands' of ALL time! I love Players and saw them play this live.
I was fortunate to grow up in Dayton, Ohio, funk was around our city in such great force it was normal to see national artists on an everyday basis just in passing, Ohio Players, Heatwave, Dayton, Slave, Steve Arrington (hall of fame), Faz O, Lakeside. Roger Troutman, Zapp, all came from Daytons westside, and I still see the ones that are still with us on occasion.

One of the greatest bands of all time and the most underrated and under appreciated bands of all time. They brought the funk and dropped in a pinch of jazz.
I knew it only take some time for someone to use the word underrated for this legendary band I keep asking why do people throw that word underrated around on RUclips sooo much is it a trend or something? Their music has been sampled covered they played to sold out shows all over the world they had 7 top ten singles on billboard not just the r and b charts but the pop charts too also about four or five top whole albums on billboard ain't nothing underrated about that don't get it twisted

Everywhere. Hopefully new generations of kids can master music in the same way. And keep the legacy alive. Black music deserves to be about so much more than it is right now. R.I.P. Sugarfoot....
Satch and Sugerfoot's tight performances makes this one of the top funk songs of all time! Can you imagine what the hot 70's Queens looked like back then that inspired this classic? I'm a white guy that was lucky enough to grow up in Dayton, Ohio during the 70's and funk has always been a part of my soul.
This is my favorite band of all times. The Ohio Players. These are the greatest musicians who ever lived. Greatest song writers and greatest instrumentalist of all times.
I was a preteen when my Dad took microphones to a club they were playing at in Germantown Ohio. At that time, their name was "Ohio Players and Another Exchange".
Ohio players were never underated.. They were top entertainers no doubt...and still are to this day in the archives. Awesome thank God for their blessings to humanity!
Yes ladies and gentlemen, that was LIVE, no pre-records, tapes, DJ inputs or anything yes. everything you heard was being produced by those bad players right there on that stage. William Franklin that great as can for you to have all them amazing albums .like touch of pure heaven loving that just sweet candy eye candy of my life.

It just occurred to me that satch is playing the sax with no neck strap ! Takes a lot of strength to hold the base of the horn with the thumb of your right hand only and play it like he did .
This is so ironic it's 2023 and I was just listening to this song at the gym today rock into it along with skin tight this group was so amazing and I'm so glad I grew up as a youngster listening to this type of music it's forever tattooed in my brain and my mental musical library

I googled and found out that all the original members were gone. It didn't matter to me. I drove 3hrs and stayed in Los Angeles to see them. I really miss those days. I remember having a layover in Seoul, Korea in the summer of 1977. I went to a local club for a bit but things were kinda slow. There was this giant juke box with a great sound system. Looking through the songs I found this one, Love Rollercoaster and Skin Tight. The club started jumpin’!!
