      Pretty much! But the only good EV at that time was the Model S, and that had a much better charging curve. And the 100kWh battery could sometimes get over 150kW charging for short periods of time.

    I know the views doesn't show it yet. but this is a very realistic EV test on RUclips. Why ? BECAUSE most trip planners recommend a 15 to 20 minutes charging stops . Also most Gas stops and bathroom breaks take at least 15 minutes. The only thing is..... I personally can not relate to those speeds because I live in NY . But those speeds are realistic in most of the US

    Didn't the BZ4X have a similar limitation when it was first released? I thought I recalled seeing a video from Bjorn about how they were going to update that at least in Europe. Hopefully that will happen for this car as well, otherwise it is terrible for road tripping as you say.

      Both the bZ4x and the RZ450e use the same Toyota-made e-TNGA platform, so the RZ450e is essentially a slightly modified bZ4x with a different body. It's not a mystery why they both have the same problems...

      Yes, they both have the same "design feature" restricting what Toyota considers excessive DC fast charging, to protect battery longevity. I complained to Toyota when we discovered this limit after a road trip from Maine to Maryland took 23 hours (normally in an ICE car, it takes 9-10 hours). Toyota consistently told me there was nothing wrong with the car, and EVs aren't ready to road trip in the US. I sold the car after 8 months when it looked like Toyota had no plan or intention to fix this "feature." A week later, at the end of July, they finally announced the update Bjorn referenced, that ostensibly extends the restriction from 2 cycles 10-80% up to 3.8 cycles, which was made available via dealer update, but even with the update, this car would run into the limit on my longest typical road trip from Maine to Ohio at 850 miles, and would then be restricted for 24 hours. I was prepared for a slow road tripper, but this car was and I think still is a worse road tripper than the Bolt.
      The only bonus with Lexus is they offer 30 days of a free loaner or car rental within the first 3 years, in case of need for a road trip. Clearly they recognize this problem, but only Lexus was special enough for them to offer a token level of compensation.

    I don’t understand how this competes with other offerings at this price.
    Why buy this instead of nearly anything else? All the e-GMP architecture cars are cheaper, have better range, charging and features.

      My friend bought one simply because they hate Tesla and are loyal to Lexus. This is the perfect car for people who don't drive long distances, don't care about how it compares to other vehicles and just are loyal to the brand. Not everyone cares about spec comparisons.

    Even with the bad curve, it does charge better than a 2014 P85 with 100k miles… but that it’s a new car in the ballpark of a 9 year old car with 9 year old battery technology is telling.

    Ryan, I saw in the graph again you had the ID.4 Pro S AWD at 84 miles, but the video for that hasn’t been posted. Any reason for it’s absence? Also, the description for this video doesn’t have the link to the Google Doc.

    Just my 2 cents, Well when you get 60kw it doesn’t mean you getting the cut off. When this happens it drops to 40kw charging. Also if you drive slower you won’t see that drop but only after you charge 4 times probably at fast dc. Actually no one would do that to be honest. If you need to do over 600 mile trip it’s not the car for you but still feasible if you drive slower.
    Of course the reason Toyota does this as many other OEMs by the way is that they give warranty and in order to make sure the pack does what is supposed to do for many years , 10 fir Toyota I think they need to make sure the pack is charged in a specific way. Again this is not just Toyot

    With all the limitations regarding charging evs both from manufacturer battery management software controls to charging network gaps/poor charging station maintenance it’s actually not reliable for anyone who drives long distances regularly. And this isn’t a moderately priced car.

    How is the ID.4 so poor? My AWD definitely charges faster than the Lexus and it would probably see 3.2-ish mi/kWh

    The most telling thing is that this vehicle couldn’t even beat the 4680 Tesla Model Y. That vehicle was sub par for Tesla so they discontinued it and Toyota/Lexus can’t even beat that vehicle. Toyota has lost their way. I wouldn’t buy a Toyota/Lexus EV under any circumstances.

    This EV was not designed to be a “road-trip” vehicle. It’s a “city car” designed for those who want a comfortable, reliable, EV that they can use for short local runs … go shopping, take the kids to soccer, a night out on the town and so forth. They even acknowledge that owners of the RZ will be a 2-car family and will use their ICE or hybrid vehicle for longer trips. But if you need more range. Lexus provides 30-days of “free” Lexus loaners during a 3-year period if you want a vehicle for a road trip. As an RZ owner, we drive it about 400-500 miles per month for local trips … charge it every other week at home … and use our hybrid as needed for longer trips. Let’s not try to make this something that it was not designed to be.

    As someone who believes road rules and speed limits are meant to be obeyed, an 80mph test really tells me nothing about how a car will perform for me.

    Toyota is sabotaging EVs with its customer base. The only people who will buy these products are total brand loyalists who simply buy the newest model at the same dealership every 2-4 years. These people will have a poor experience with EVs and come right back to Toyota and buy a hybrid whatever asap. And they will all eschew EVs as long as they can. Toyota can keep making mild hybrids. Frankly, I don’t get why anybody buys any Toyota but I can guarantee these vehicles will not bring anybody to the brands.

    I think you should do a video on the testing procedure and either link to it in a pinned comment or description. You spend a long time every video explaining what you do and they would be much better with just some fluff at the start about the vehicle, the start of charging, end of charging, a couple of notes during the trip, and final number.
    This video is 10 minutes long but could probably be 4-5 minutes even including the add and some fluff.

    The Toyota EV platform is just really bad. The throtteling is insane, watch Bjørn on the 1000km Challenge with the bz4x, painful to roadtrip. Even more painful is paying 60k+ for a subpar EV with a Corolla iterior. The screen in the dash (instrument cluster) alone would scare me off.

    I don't trust any Toyotas when it comes to EVs for sure. Design is horrible and so many issues for what you pay! Not worth it.

      DC Fast Charging for road trips can get expensive in some areas, still cheaper than gas though. In this case he paid 57 cents/Kw which isn't too bad. Where EVs have the most savings is charging at home where you typically pay 10 - 14 cents/Kw. There's also free public charging as well, not to mention all the maintenance cost you won't be paying, compared to ICE. Bottom line.... Yes, EVs save you money.

      Also, if you get on an EV plan and charge at night, you can pay as little as 1.7 cents/KW

    YEAHHHH, 32mi of range after 15 mins DCFC. Okay 68mi of range, big whoop… One would have to be a FOOL to buy this overpriced Toyota. I think a 2015 BMW i3 BEV or 2013 LEAF makes a better road tripper than this overpriced Yota!

    Haha now do the test with a v8 truck in the city gridlock traffic and tell us thst it sucks. This video was literally pointless. Obviously an EV with low range is not gonna be good for road trips. Tf

      This is a signature test of the channel and they do it on all the EVe they can for comparison purposes. I can tell you're new here.

    It's a ToyotaSubaruLexus! Why can't they just make one car for each brand... Electric isn't the way to go yet. You need to drive miles, electric is not worth it. Not to mention that our grid can't handle it and the fact that electricity doesn't come from purple unicorns. It comes from POWER PLANTS, which are coal, nuclear, natural gas, etc. All the wind farms can't produce enough electricity homes, let alone cars.

      Likely that isn't their target market, but rather home charging.
      They at least recognize that and offer the "Lexus Reserve Program" with the ability to rent an ICE vehicle at a dealer for road trips for up to 3 years.
