SERIOUSLY
Dude, it's my birthday and your choice for today's oc remix track of the day couldn't be better, thank you!
I'm glad to see OCRemix getting even more attention. I was introduced to it a few years after it launched, and it's just a fantastic place to find new takes on classic video game music, as well as more contemporary pieces. There are some talented folks out there working on these tracks.
Loved this episodes track. Really am liking the decision to add tracks at the end. Good work TB.
Probably would as well honestly.
I'm very glad that watched one of these, as seen by the view count this is that big of a series.
The first 'track of the day' that I've actually listened through all the way. :)
Mature and fair discussion regarding the EA Star Wars news.
Great work TotalHalibut!
*I might simply be nitpicky
Opps, didn't notice my grammar there.
Also forgot to mention, I did like the remix you showcased here ;D it gave the feeling of an actual band playing it for a performance, which is a very good way to do it, imo
That's because the movies were aimed at children
Oh wow. This remix is pretty good!
I'm not sure if you're aware of this TB, but this song actually has a meme status in Japan, called "Omoide wa Okkusenman". An alternate version would be "I can't defeat AirMan".
The Fighting Game Community in Japan also adopted this song in a mutation of the meme, taking the "I can't defeat AirMan" version and turning it into "I can't defeat Daigo Umehara" (sung by pro Street Fighter 3 player Hayao)
When I read "EA to excluxively develop Star Wars" from the video description, I actually went "NNOOOOOOOO!!" for a few seconds before even realising I was actually referencing Star Wars.
I love your news, TB. Content patch is my favorite gaming news source. Have you considered turning it into a more general news show that talks, not just about gaming news, but everything you feel is relevant to gaming? I know the difference sounds academic, but I'm sure there are topics you'd like to talk about that don't fit neatly into a news story you manage to find. I'd love to hear about that stuff.
I loved the battlefront series so much, I still play BF2 on my PC from time to time (mods really add to the replay value), sadly my BF1 disk for the PS2 is glitchy, so the game takes forever to load, but still totally worth it for classic maps such as Rhen Var citadel and Harbor, Kashyyyk Docks, Bespin Cloud City... Oh my word I loved BF1...
also this analysis of the events ... yeah thank you TB this is really helpful
That remix was mind-blowingly good.
Nice choice for track of the day. Wily theme plus Sixto Sounds? Always love anything they do, regularly listen to their Final Fantasy album.
I still enjoy playing Spore to this day but I will admit that it could have been better than the final product. The biggest thing that hurts it is the most fun stage; Creature, is so short and could have been extended/enriched with having an actual water stage to play your creature in prior to going to land...which there was going to be one, based on the demo footage that is on RUclips of Robin Williams playing it...why it was taken out, I have no idea.
"Buy Oral B and unlock Mace Windu in Conquest battles!
Sour Cream and Onion Pringles now come with Yoda!"
Yep, can totally see it.
That's because the movies are a tiny speck the great big extended universe. Dark Star Wars actually fits in more than you would think, and would do the vast plethora of canon and EU more justice than the light-hearted Star Wars we've had till now.
Totally, that's why this might just be the best thing that happened to Battlefront series.
And while it has it's many, MANY problems, I've still managed to clock a good 45-50 hours into it
Spore was a major case of bait-and-switch. Early demos and promos show this incredibly complex and customizable life simulator. They showed the player as the designer of entire ecosystems, shaping the plants, animals, and societies of a new world.
What we got was heavily scaled down in complexity and creative control. It went from a game aimed at adults and older teens, to a game aimed at 5-12 y/os. It was dull, repetitive, and delivered on none of Maxis' promises.
"Hothville" TB you just made my night, bravo.
Depends on the laser, if it heats the tissue enough it causes the liquids to boil, so the target area explodes, it's a lot messier than cauterising with weapons grade lasers.
That is one badass remix o_O Definitely my favourite so far
*On Will Wright and making Spore*
If you watch Beta footage, it was much better than the release. His company was pressured by EA to dumb down the game, which made the complete release a shadow of what Will had planned to do. (Water stage, NO RTS, actually beaming down and interacting with aliens like the GA expansion but in vanilla, etc.)
Not to mention that EA servers are broken to hell and they will /NEVER/ be fixed, plus the DRM that was implemented.
At first I died inside when I heard about EA and Star Wars. But, after thinking about it, this gives me hope for EA and Star Wars games now. If EA can, dare I say, return to the light, they have the potential to make something amazing out of this.
It's great to hear you have the same opinion about the Star Wars news as I do. I have seen way to many idiots saying that EA don't make good games. They are a publisher, they publish games not make them.
It's good to see that you are positive about this. Maybe some of the idiots will finally listen to reason... very unlikely.
The Creature and Space stages were alright, but Spore never managed to live up to it's promises. The original tech demonstration videos showed a game with much more potential.
I didn't really play any of the previous Battlefront campaigns, I pretty much exclusively played multi-player and instant action (vs. bots). Were the campaigns any good?
OMG! Battlefront + Dice makes me so enthusiastic :)
watch some of the early dev footage. It was going to have so much more, but it was watered down and had a LOT of really cool stuff was sadly cut.
Its interesting to me because with all the talk and speculation of Battlefield 4 and with Medal of honor being discontinued many Battlefield players think DICE is going to start doing a yearly releases between Battlefield, Bad company, and Battlefield 2142. With this license they could add Battlefront to the mix and if anyone could do a battlefront game justice I think its DICE. They just need to get their expansion/DLC plans together and release modding tools
The development team for Sims 3 has actually admitted that Sims 3 isnt optimized like it should be; meaning that even on very high end computers it can still lag. This was brought up when people started questioning if a Sims 4 was in the making and they responded with that fact stating that they're working on making The Sims 4 more playable on a variety of systems instead of just a super computer lol.
I don't see how it had "poor execution". It was perhaps slightly unimaginative in game mechanics, but the quality was up to par. The only serious issue I had with them was server population management, and that was fixed after a while (funnily enough they were even better than Blizz in this regard). You can easily criticize them for using stale systems and not innovating, and that is a very valid point, but the production quality was at least as good as other major titles and better than many.
Never really listen to the music in the end but wow this one is good!
That last track was done really well. Old Blind Guardian style.
And I love you for knowing where it comes from!
As a drving game player.... I have to say Rallisport challenge was a good game. Felt good and had a massive variety of cars... so there's that, if you're talking about dice
This is really true. I think though that a huge issue DICE has with AI is making it try and be realistic with cover-based shooting. For the most part, the battlefront AI has never really tried to be a cover-based shooter. It's doable to make AI that can be intelligent with such a system (Crysis 1) but ignoring it completely might allow DICE to better focus on just making the AI good in all other regards. Maybe they'll hire new developers specificially for AI flowcharts?
OC Remix blew my mind this time around !
About the OC remix of the day, I simply be nitpicky, but I'm not a fan of starting them off by saying that a lot of people did the remix wrong =S
Idk, it's just hard to enjoy music right after hearing someone mention how others have messed up on their version of it.
Oh, side note though, one good remix that I was personally a big fan of was The Megas' version, specifically the one they did with brentalfloss 'Gotta Run/Be The One' =3
Another great episode of the content patch.
I do love these roasts haha
Wow, that's a very nice OCremix, thanks for introducing it, instant download :)
I agree with the Lucas Arts thing. As much as I love them for making some of my childhood favorites, these days they were little more than a money drain. There was really no sensible reason to keep them around.
And as a hardcore Star Wars fan, I'll say that I'm willing to let EA have the license if it means Bioware gets to make another Star Wars game(I actually quite liked The Old Republic).
"Third age was enjoyable" dropped.
I don't understand TB's hate for Spore, I found it enjoyable for the sheer creativity it allowed.
Although I agree ME3's original ending wasn't the greatest, BioWare did an incredible job with the ME series. ME3 was the best in the series, and I would say to your point that they more than redeemed themselves with the subsequent story related DLC packs that they released post launch; they were incredible. I think we can all agree that the extended cut DLC should have been how ME3 originally ended. Day 1 DLC? Yes it sucked, but I feel like that was more of an EA issue than a BioWare one.
That and the song was radically changed, including the chords, which you would think would be the one thing that would stay the same.
You have to remember. When it comes to games like Simcity, a lot of the fans aren't actually gamers. It appeals to a wide variety of people. Many of these people would have now know anything about DRM.
yes, yes it is. Thank you for saying so.
Great track. Thanks TB.
The thing with being under the hood of a bigger publisher might get in the way, though. And seeing that they will release BF4 soon, probably keen on pumping out DLCs like they did with BF3, I doubt that they will make Battlefront 3 a priority project. A sideproject, maybe.
You also have to consider the fact, that the BF-community still activly plays the game and is pretty much save to at least refill their wallets. While the Battlefront-community, might be still active but not that big, I guess.
There was a decent amount of press that said this was might backfire before SimCity was released. However, that game series has so many followers you're not going to deter enough of them to make it fail. Only after it's happened and possibly continues to happen in future would they completely turn away. Not that I'd want it to happen but more of these big titles with all their DRM and other nonsense need to fail before they stop doing this.
Content Patch and metal music. You spoil us! :3
John, don't forget that bf3 oficial servers were taken off a few months after release, and to have a server to play you have to rent one from EA.
I felt my heart plummet into my bowels after hearing about EA and Star Wars...
Aww yeah, Sixto Sounds has got to be my favourite artists over at OC remix.
I don't know about DICE making a Battlefront game, with BF3 they did a lot to limit your options and scale down the experience for a more focused experience. Considering I wanted the scale of it to get much larger, like going as far as to be able to control capital ships, this doesn't sound too great. Also, because it's Frostbite we probably won't get mod tools.
But we'll wait and see. Perhaps they'll do the series justice.
I don't understand. What was wrong with Spore? I didn't play it for very long, but a friend of mine really enjoyed it.
Keep up the great quality!
Mass Effect 6: The most modern warfare
Mass Effect 7: Hey, where did everybody go?
The best word to describe EA developing Star Wars titles is 'dangerous', I feel. It's excellent in the potential for a Bioware-developed Star Wars RPG or a Dice-directed Battlefront return-to-glory, but with EA behind the helm of a massive franchise with a lot of mouth-foaming fans desperate for another title, it's dripping with potential for consumer-unfriendly decisions in the same vein of SimCity, another series with a large fanbase that took the hit for a game in a series they love. S'scary.
I find it ironic that people complain to companies to stop farming out the same game over and over. Yet with Lucas Arts, you got people begging them to make more of their IPs (Battlefront, Republic Commando, ect.) and they didn't listen.
As for Battlefront in the hands of DICE, they better not have ANY unlocks. (you must be a level 5 destroyer droid in order to unlock the shield)
If they MUST have unlocks just make achievements and such give your troopers (clone/storm) shiny service medals.
Wow, that was actually an amazing Track of the day. That was awesome.
Guys, guys, I appreciate all the responses to this comment, but I really know what I'm talking about. I know 95% there is to know about Star Wars and I still don't think that there should be any explicit blood-shed violence in any new SW game.
TB, I know you're a PC gamer, but just out of curiosity: will you be doing anything on Xbox's press conference on the 21st? I'm not a console gamer, I'm just curious if that's going to be something that's coming up.
I just realized an interesting Comparison.
TB is pretty much the Gaming Version of Rush Limbaugh(in terms of content) without the Ego the size of the World(and the ridiculous number of sell out ads).
I've been subscribed to SWTOR since it's release, and was following the game 2 years before it came out. So yes, I know they made it. As for a success, if you consider a game a success when it makes money, then every game is a success.
The one thing I worry about if DICE does do Battlefront 3. Please for the love of all that is good in Star Wars, have the on-foot combat be as relevant as vehicular combat and leave the specialization (perk) system out of it.
TB you should hear Powerglove's remastered version of Dr. Wily's theme from TV Game Metal CD. Blows this one to pieces.
I really want EA to do well with this, and not mess it up. I think there's a lot of potential for these developers to make some good Star Wars games. Literally all EA has to do is leave the developers alone here. They don't need to stick their grubby little hands in it and tell them to "Put DRM this, have microtransactions that." NO! NO EA! STOP IT! Just let them do their things, let Dice make Battlefront 3, Bioware make KOTOR3, and Visceral make the Mature Star Wars game. THIS IS WHAT WE WANT!
Republic Commando 2? that would be pretty cool, especially if they continue the story that was left on a cliffhanger for years now. since its a FPS I could see DICE taking that up
Spore was okay, what I found bad about it is that no stage of the game is deep or compelling enough in their own right, which ends up boring me, especially the 3rd and 4th stage which just lack any depth beyond spam building troops. The game is really just the space stage if you don't want to keep playing the 2 hours or so it takes to get to the space stage. The space stage itself is done better in other games more devoted to it.
In defence of DICE for the MP to MoH, DICE only had 6 months to work on the MP while creating BF3 and patching BFBC2. Ive a lot of trust in EA to create good SW titles. Just look at the oppertunity for battlefront 3 (if dice take care of it). destruction, good ports, great graphics. thats my five cents on giving EA SW rights
One Dr wily remix i really enjoy is "Mega Man 2 'Chillout' [Dr whily stage 1]" by seduction. It's much slower version than most remixes but it just works so well really incredibly done.
I'd love to see Bioware come out with a new Knights of the Old Republic, single player RPG, i loved the first one and the second had such potential.. it's a shame it was rushed to make the holiday release and essentially be incomplete. It'd be great to see those again, Revan ftw!
Yeah! Sixto Sounds is my favourite artist on OCRemix!
You know, that's exactly the kind of attitude that EA wanted us to have.
"SimCity sucks, but I got a free game so it doesn't matter."
It does matter. SimCity is still inherently worse than it should/could be, but their plan has still worked in their favour.
After they dicked me out of my cash with BF3 LE ($110) on the 360 and then Premium ($60, which I refused to buy after putting money where my mouth is), I got BF3 on PC for free and picked up Premium for $25, so EA still profited off of me.
I for one am glad to hear that EA is to make future Star Wars games, while I absolutely despise EA for what they did to Westwood Studios and the Command & Conquer franchise - I feel that Star Wars games made on the Frostbite Engine, with DICE as one of the developers surely has my interest.
It's better than no more Star Wars games at all, isn't it? I for one am hoping EA create a new BattleFront as well as Jedi Academy. Those 2 Star Wars games were absolutely brilliant!
Oh my God. Battlefront 3 developed by DICE would be nothing short of amazing. My tiny brain could hardly grasp the fact that you could actually use the snowspeeders to take the AT-ATs down on Hoth. If they can add more stuff like that and make it even more interesting, with actual internet capability, that would be great.
Personally, while I actually liked SimCity, I felt that much of my negative experience came from the fact that I couldn't play it for several days, and that I've actually had regions ruined by always-online problems (cities glitching out and being unable to load, entire regions disappearing, cities not saving work, etc.).
right... ***Spoilers?***
so luke does not get his hand chopped off by his father, luke doesn't almost kill his dad, DV doesn't throw the emperor down a bottomless pit, Han does not shoot first, Ani doesn't kill a bunch of children in episode 3, darth maul doesn't get chopped in half... trust me the list goes on. Brutality has always been a part of the series. the absence of blood does not make a series any less brutal.
Yes... alot of yes... thanks for the song TB!
Call me the devil's advocate, but i actually enjoyed the new Simcity. I played it with friends, and it was quite enjoyable to be able to help them and also suffer the consequences as a team when one of them became a casino town without a police force. I did have some problems with losing all of my progress multiple times within the space of a week, but overall it was enjoyable.
EA are probably one of the best companies to give the SW brand to, they have access to some incredible developers.
I'm not really into the Star Wars franchise much, but I really agree with you. I personally love the less serious/fantasy FPS games (e.g. UT series). With Star Wars, the developers have a chance to do just that, and still not lose the 'feel'/tone of Star Wars, so it'd be disappointing to see a brown/grey COD clone but with "pyoww" noises whenever you fire... :D
That actually makes a lot of sense.
Core Star Wars games with the Frostbite engine? Yes, please, YES.
Spore was great fun when it came out, the main issue was that it got to the space stage far too quickly.
Because there is no discussion if it might be made, it WILL be made. The question is if the game will be good or awful, even if it ignores release dates of the actual movie, as proven by the newest Star Trek game.
All in all a good content patch. Thanks TB
I guess Duane & BrandO's version doesn't count as OCremix track. But I highly recommend anyone take a look at it: yt: Duane Brando Megaman 2.
I really don't want the progression system that BF3 has.
Also pure space levels were incredibly fun in the second one, better yet would be orbit->ground integration.
They really aren't the same games, no ADS, snipers were visible by their solid beam tracers, among other things.
Pretty similar but even today I find Bfront>BF3
If there's one publisher that deserves to get the star wars license, it really is EA. The franchise has been milked so extensively over the years, changes are whoever still is into it will be more than willing to pay for naked-boba-fett dlc and ammo for cash micro transactions.
That's a sweet metal tune right there, with a slight hint of oldschool progressive rock soloing.
Rocked out boss music? Might I suggest searching "SnappleMan, Ashane, norg - The Doomsday". Its a rocked out version of Sonic 3 and Knuckles' Final Boss fight.
dude the entire universe is just so amazingly dark but all the movies do is put a light colored filter over it. making star wars kid friendly would just completely ruin it.
Disney are totally okay with M rated titles, as long as they are not fully affiliated with Disney- they are not published by Buena Vista- they are not connected to Disney in any way. Look at ICP's first release- they were Disney affiliates for that release.
EA please dont mess this up you got a golden chance here to bring back gamers to like you again please make this work
I had fun with it. Did you not have fun with Spore tb?
