I’d love to see a comparison between the new release and the Turbine release.
I also firmly disagree that the Turbine mix wasn’t great. It’s pretty incredible. They even added or changed effects. It’s a completely different experience than the original Blu-ray mix.
Is it confirmed that the new 4K's ATMOS track is actually different that the Turbine's version?

I thought the Auro 3D sounded awesome on the Turbine Media version. Also the visual treatment is far superior compared to the blury U.S version. I'll be looking forward to this release to compare.
Same with me. I think it was 1995. Speed and then Twister are what hooked me. The most significant jump in HT was Dolby Digital. I was blown away. Dolby Atmos is now the most significant jump in HT.
Thanks for the review, definitely gonna pick this one up. Hopefully the new movie doesn't suck. I'm glad that it's coming out though so that we can get this release. I remember being happy about the new Robocop and Total Recall movies because it finally made them release the originals on Blu-ray leading up to them.

(I finally got my prototype DIY AVR decoding Atmos and DTS-X recently, so it got me back into watching a lot of cinema and movie vids.)
Make sure you turn off the automatic spying and selling of your information option in your LG TV's folks. 😂
This is a great movie but I think Into the Storm (another tornado movie) has some of the best audio I have ever heard.

I’m so excited for this release and I’ve been hearing good things about it. Looks like it’s going to be a day one buy for me.
I’m very meticulous when it comes to the quality of picture and sound in media movies, I think Shane always gives the best and most accurate reviews in my opinion. He’s my go-to-guy.
Finally got my copy in over the weekend. Aside from the cringey affects they added in, the Atmos mix is very good but my main reason for switching to this disc over Turbine is the video presentation. It's excellent. Very clear, excellent color, cool brightness and VFX changes (don't care for the exaggerated green hail core glows. I live in Tornado alley and hail cores are green sometimes for sure but they don't turn the entire landscape green). At first, I felt very strange with how dark the movie is but I started to like it part way through, and then agreed it was a fantastic change by the end. There are also several instances of VFX changes to make the sky seem more real, that was nice (since most of the movie was shot in broad daylight). The first tornado experience is made pretty incredible by these changes.

Between 1 hour 3 mins and 1 hour 5 mins when Joe and Bill are fighting in the rain after the boat the centre dialogue drops a bit went back and forth a few times to double check, anyone else ?
Cause of amazon delay on the steelbook bought a standard edition neither disc will play in my magnater player

seems like a 9.6 score should have 9.x.6 channels.

Definitely a great movie, I'm looking forward to getting the 4K. I still haven't even designed my Atmos speakers, maybe this movie coming out will motivate me to get to work on that.
Yeah this new mix suck. There is no low end whatsoever.
I used to use the laser disc as a demo, and that was miles better than this mix.
They have modernized it amd removed almost all information below 40hz.
How the hell you do 9.6 for a static mix with no low end baffles me.

On an audyssey processor it sounds bad.
And on the beq forum it has been confirmed there is almost no information below 40hz

Can u explain the Atmos heights channel.... Got confused since dont get why u change AVR settings for heights ? Middle and back channel 4 speaker setup?
I got total 4 x heights, 2 front and 2 back rear heights. Why would u Change to Middle and Back heights? seems Static up there?

Panasonic has the best tv.They get the panels from LG but tweak and improve the performance.

Nah,they fcked up this 4k.its way to dark in to many scenes.atmos is static.

Static mixes are going to be the future for Atmos according to Marc Fishman who is a mixer at Sony.
Auro3D wont be around in 10 years
@@pnevin98 More likely it will be hybrid mixes where they use the Bed channels a lot and occasionally mix in Objects during specific scenes, much like Top-Gun: Maverick. Thats absolutely fine. Those kind of mixes can be great. Heck, a static mix can be great, its just a shame when they do that with material such as Twister which just screams for an active mix.
At least they made the Cow an active Object.
@@dmtd2388 probably not. Hopefully the upmixer will stick around. Its much better at upmixing legacy stereo content than DSU and Neural-X, which largely dumps almost everything to the center channel. Auromatic does a much better job creating an enveloping soundstage.

7.1.4 but only the middle row of top channels will be used? I don’t understand.
He really means locked in 7.1.2 which is base layer for Dolby Atmos. I mix in Atmos so can give you a little deeper answer. You can decide if a track will be bed or object when doing a mix. The bed is 7.1.2 (not to be confused with the bed layer term we use in home theater to describe the ear level speakers) If you encode as BED it can only move between the 7 base layer speakers and left and right height. If a sound is encoded as BED it wont play out of front wides for example. if you encode a track as an OBJECT, it is free to move around to however many extra speakers you have beyond the 7 base layer and 2 heights. This mix is mostly encoded as BED, similar to Ready Player One, but you can see in his video here, there is some objects like the boat and the cow. So if you have 6 overhead speakers at home, it will play BED height information only in the middle two channels. If you have 4 overhead speakers, all the AVR's and pre-pro's simply duplicate that information in both speakers so you'll get the left height info from the bed playing out of the Top Front Left and Top Rear Left. Hope that helps.

I have 5.1.4 and have been a little frustrated recently as the front wall heights I find smear with the ear level RLC too much. So was wandering if it was just the coding of the soundtrack!

I wonder if K scape will get the 4K atmos version. 🤔 this was one of my favorite movies growing up too. I always wanted to be a storm chaser when I was growing up. I don’t want the make the 4k blu ray purchase and have to double tip if it releases on K.

Sounds good, I have it pre-ordered, but I’m always hesitant to follow through without hearing a review first. These transfers really can be amazing, awful, or anywhere in between. Glad to hear this sounds like a decent one, I’m looking forward to it.

Practically every audiophile already knows the configurations for Dolby Atmos and other Dolby and DTS multi-channel sound designs, and already have a Dolby Atmos setup in their home theater. You can eliminate that section from your reviews entirely because, it's not really necessary to include the audio diagrams in your reviews all the time. It's become basic common knowledge now.

@@slimdude2011 it's basic knowledge that you know which speakers are active, how many objects are included and if it's a static or dynamically active mix? You're telling me you know that without looking at the graphic? If so tell me how so I can share it in my videos.
I always thought Twister had excellent audio. The Twisters really do roar and the wind really whistles. I remember Twister was nominated for Oscars for both best sound mix and visuals effects. The movie was never great looking that overcast looked like it was done in post.

Thank you for giving us the early review well I’m a little excited to hear the atmosphere mix, but I need to temper my expectations, I was never expecting to be wowed, by the atmosphere sound effects, for what movie gives everything you want? But I will be waiting to get my steelbook from amazon, on July 9th…

Thankfully this 4K doesn't get the James Cameron treatment, OMG, why di these 4K review people always diss Cameron....The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic, Aliens & both Avatar's all his 4K movies is WHY I BOUGHT A 4K TV & not to see Film Grain😂😂😂....James Cameron & his buddies Peter Jackson, Christopher Nolan & Denis Villeneuve hands-down the best to release 4k's....if i want film grain i will just buy twister on blu-ray
I think people diss Cameron because of the occasional OVER scrubbing of grain which produces a waxy look to the image. People don’t love grain for the sake of it, but because the grain is literally like seeing the celluloid film itself. It feels like a truly original image. 4K doesn’t mean clean, it means fine resolution. If you remove all the grain it’s like removing a feature of the image quality. But to each their own.
light Grain gives u that nice film movie look, rather than clinical phone 4k home video camera 📹 look ? when u edit your family vids add grain effect .... More to it than that .....
not just about counting how many nostril hairs up Harrison nose and wrinkles on actors face ....seriously look at Morgan Freeman 🤮face in Angle has Fallen. I have to turn away during that scene
Yeah, you guys make good points ofcourse but I don't mind waxy look & Morgan Freeman's face 😂😂😂 issue's, I guess because I'm a videogamer, where HDR & 1440P @ 240HZ is king, I take that mindset to my 4K movies...Film Grain for that movie look does make sense tho... I guess I have to start watching these movies with different eyes.. but I don't appreciate the Cameron dissing, he's done so much for the industry & I just wish reviewers & videophiles would show him respect for crying out loud.. Anyway, thanks guys for your important input.. can't wait to hear the new Twister Audio Surround Mix btw
It’s an internet “trend” to say these things. Pretty snobby one at that. James Cameron freaking approved the transfers of HIS movies. If he (the guy who actually made it) approves of it, it dosen’t matter what nerds on the internet think. I love and own all of his movies and they look/sound great!
@@ColoradoKid303 You're free to your own opinion, just as all the "nerds" are free to theirs. Just because the director approved it means he's right? It's subjective opinion. Peter Jackson oversaw the 4K transfer of LOTR. While the resolution is astounding, the color grading that HE approved is FAR from what we've known to be LOTR... As an AVID LOTR fan, I really didn't like the new coloring of the 4K LOTR... It's okay to disagree with director's choice. If you think Cameron's transfers look and sound great, good for you! Other people have more critical opinions and preferences. And that's okay for them, too. You know what this means? It means we get to have conversations and discussions about things. And that's a good thing. So have your opinion, and then be ready to listen to others' opinions as well.
