Hi there! Great video! For many of the measurements you took I notice you did not mention that you added for the exterior measurement. Were some of those just assumed or intentionally omitted and the exterior measurement not used?? Thank you!
I really find this very interesting. I am an appraiser and I think the sketches are the most difficult part of the job, with the big expensive houses have so many angles and irregular shapes. I love my Disto which is considerably smaller than they were when you made this video. I still haven't gotten to the point of using software to do the sketch on site, so that is my next objective, and my Disto has Bluetooth (Disto 2).
+Scott B I'm glad you went for it. You won't be sorry! It saves a ton of time. You'll be glad you made the switch. I can help you with Alamode if you need a contact there. Let me know what you think of the surface pro 4.
First one I got was back in the early 90s. Bought wrong one. Laser pointer sonic measurer. lol. Took a couple houses before the sound made a difference in my distance that I noticed.
the Bosch glm50c only because of the price. With Bluetooth I understand that the measurements will automatically transfer to Total. it has all the functions I need, big backlit readout, Pythagorean, add subtract, and...half the price of a Disto. What are your thoughts? By the way, your videos are great!
Thanks JD. Good Luck getting started. This is a great business. The app is Alamode's Total app for the iPad and the case is a Griffin Airstrap. I have videos of both on my youtube channel. Have a good day.
Just now apprenticing for my father as he's about to retire - his laser measure is accurate but sucks - too bright? No read. It gets frustrating. I've also told him over the years he should invest in a tablet to knock out the sketch as he's measuring and all he could say was, "I do my onsite measurements and drawing, and then make it make sense in ACI." You've proven I was correct to get the sketch done both on site and in program this entire time. At least I hope that's what I was supposed to get from this. Cheers!
Mike, Great video. You have convinced me that a disto is the way to go. I was wondering why you excluded the Stairs in the upper level measurement? It was my understanding that ANSI standard requires the inclusion of the stairs in the upper and first floor the same as you would with a standard 2 story colonial where you just use the same measurements for first and second floor. Thanks.
+Scott B Hi Scott, You definitely need a disto! This is my house I'm measuring in the video. The area above the entry is all open, more than a typical staircase. I would have included if it were just stairs. This is about 80 sq.ft.' of open area. Good Luck and let me know if you need any help. Mike
Hi James, Thanks- I've used a Samsung tablet since this video because it took better quality photos then the Ipad 2. I'm now using a Ipad pro with a disto. I've found them to be the best right now. What are you using in the field? Mike
Thanks again Michael! I am brand new and just getting started. I purchased MS Surface Pro 4 (haven't taken it out of the box yet) but I'm beginning to think that the iPad Pro and a Disto D2 combo would be the better choice. Your thoughts?
To be honest, the technology is so good now it really comes down to personal preference. I've heard many people love using the surface. I've not tried it yet. I've been using a tablet in the field for years so I'm partial to that setup. I think the most import part it to use it daily and make the use of it full functionally. I don't think you can wrong with any of these options right now.
I've heard in the past D2 is more designed for indoor use. I know several people use it and love it. They have this help me choose guide on their website- lasers.leica-geosystems.com/product-selector/index.html It's a difference of $300 though for what they recommend. I think I would try the D2 and see how it performs. I buy everything on Amazon so that I can return it if I don't like it.
just about to purchase a laser measure for total mobile. with the changing technology (laser and Total) do you have any tips? I can't wait to start using a laser but I also want to get it right the first time. thanks,, Mike, Appraisal Shop, Austin
Good job on the video Michael. I'm new to the appraisal biz and using a Disto. Can you tell me what app you're using on your iPad and where you found the case/handle?

Thanks Mike my E7500i is on the way. Now I am thinking about switching from ACI to Alamode. and/or getting a surface pro4.

I needed this information. Thank you.
Michael -- Anyway you can make a laser measuring video for the interior? and an exterior video with wheel? ANSI standards...
with what tools do you work today
Thanks for sharing Michael!
Just out of curiosity; what mobile tools are you using now?
Still an iPad & Disto?

So do you think that I would be OK w/the Disto D2 or is there another model that you recommend?

Yes, What Disto are you considering?
I think I've decided on the new D2
I've heard good things about it. Let me know how it goes.
Good job on the video Michael. I'm new to the appraisal biz and using a Disto. Can you tell me what app you're using on your iPad and where you found the case/handle?
Dont you sketch on a paper?
Nice!
very primitive operation
michael hillman yes, that was 4 years ago.
How old is your laser
Hi Michael,
The one in the video (A-8) is about 10 years old. I also have a newer D-5 I bought this year.
