You want either a farming base (focused on resources), a normal base (mainly focused on trophies), or a hybrid (both). 5. Upgrade your barracks and your town hall as fast as you can. Unlocking new troops is essential, and so is unlocking new buildings. If you buy a speed up builders potion or you receive one, use it on your barracks or town hall upgrades (when you're upgrading them and waiting) 6. Figure out what you want during a raid. Do you want trophies or resources? If you want trophies, build your army around defense targeting troops like golems giants balloons etc. If you want loot, bring some Miners, goblins, hogs, that kind of stuff. 7. FIX UP YOUR CLAN CASTLE!!! SAVE UP ALL YOUR GOLD TO DO THAT BEFORE UPGRADING OTHER THINGS! CLAN CASTLE TROOPS!!! This is soooo important. Basically you can request for troops in your clan, and when you receive them they will go into you clan castle. They will stay behind and defend your base from attacks, or you can choose to bring them on in battle. You can receive troops that you haven't even unlocked yet! You can receive troops of all levels, too. Upgrade the clan castle often to expand the amount of troops you are able to have in it. 8. Try to get your heroes. Barb King is the first at town hall 7. they are EXTREMELY POWERFUL. Good luck!
And when attacking try to take out the defenses first. Upgrade your elexir collectors and gold mines constantly. Protect your town hall with walls and useless building like army camps or builder huts. And build your walls man.

Here is a quick tip for you to have an easy win. Attack the defenses first before you attack the resources or other buildings but if the defense is inside the resources or the barracks, army camp, and other buildings attack the resources first cause getting more resources is important than having stars.
