- Understanding the tarot cards, astrology, and cosmogony. Delving into the elements, planets, and signs and their relation to the tarot. Tarot, as a set of essential archetypes constitutes one of the original sets of memes (literally relatable images and words that mirror the psyche). You’re looking really good physically man, I’ve been watching your content for some time now, just wanted to say you’ve come a long way, mentally and physically
You have to practice what you preach

Artistically and commercially you mean?
Absolutely classic meme analysis style. A trimphant return to the originary force.
Even the classic outro is here
please do more of these videos on tarot, esoteric, and magic related topics. you make learning about these topics simple and straightforward!!! :)
The oldest surviving deck of Marseille had the exact same number of cards as the letters in the Hebrew alphabet and referenced pieces of God's miracles from the Old Testaments in every card, it was one of the first practical applications of the Sefirot from esoteric Kabbalah to be widely printed
Regarding the 4 elements being the four states of matter, I think it's even more general than that. They are the possible relations of things that retain their form or don't retain their form, and things that change the form of other things or are themselves changed by the form of other things. This is what Aristotle meant by 'dry', 'wet', 'hot', and 'cold' in On Generation and Corruption.
If 'form' here is taken in the Neoplatonic sense (Aristotle _was_ a student of Plato, after all), one can see that this is a much more expansive notion than one might first assume.
Also, I think the reason there's seven planets instead of eight in the planetary system is the same reason why there's three mother letters instead of four: the observer, or the matter that is affected by the other three _is_ itself the fourth/eighth element/planet. In this sense, the Western system takes an inside-out perspective, while the Eastern system of the I Ching takes an outside-in perspective.
I like the idea of principles more fundamental than the classical elements themselves, but which ones are which (re: retaining form/not retaining form and changing/being changed)? Only Earth retains its form in a literal sense - you'd have to make quite a stretch to decide the second element that satisfies this, considering water and air are defined by their inconstant form and fire has no form or substance whatsoever. The changing/being changed dichotomy is just as unclear and arbitrary. I know this is all symbolic and mystical, but you need some anchor in intuitive experience to build symbolism upon. On the other hand, the states of matter fit the classical elements neatly enough. Regarding plasma, pre-modern people didn't know that plasma existed, and natural/everyday fires almost never contain plasma, but they at least knew fire was fundamentally different.
Here is the relevant passage from Aristotle:
"Accordingly, we must segregate the tangible differences and contrarieties, and distinguish which amongst them are primary. Contrarieties correlative to touch are the following: hot-cold, dry-moist, heavy-light, hard-soft, viscous-brittle, rough-smooth, coarse-fine. Of these heavy and light are neither active nor susceptible. Things are not called heavy and light because they act upon, or suffer action from, other things.
But the elements must be reciprocally active and susceptible, since they combine and are transformed into one another. On the other hand, hot and cold, and dry and moist, are terms, of which the first pair implies power to act and the second pair susceptibility.
Hot is that which associates things of the same kind (for dissociating, which people attribute to Fire as its function, is associating things of the same class, since its effect is to eliminate what is foreign), while cold is that which brings together, i.e. associates, homogeneous and heterogeneous things alike.
And moist is that which, being readily adaptable in shape, is not determinable by any limit of its own; while dry is that which is readily determinable by its own limit, but not readily adaptable in shape."
On Generation and Corruption, Book 2, Chapter 2.
The point being is that the elements were originally formulated in trying to understand how things become other things, which is where the categories of power and susceptibility come from. Or how I phrased it, the degree to which something imposes it's form on other things, and the degree to which something can have it's form changed by something else.
Form here, as implied by the reference to Neoplatonism, is to be taken in the Platonic sense, not in the sense of concrete shape.
This is great. The four elements meaning the four states of matter is so obvious now that i hear it.
The framing 😍😍😍
the Bob Ross of magick, exceptional work as always.
I know what you mean I was “ so this is what it would be like if Éliphas Lévi has a show in PBS”
4:17 everytime Chris does an impression of a philistine, it cracks me up properly lol
I love the simplicity of The Gift of Thoth. Using it I found out that the occult significance of barbecuing steak is Taurus over Fire, i.e. you aim the Will towards enjoyment in the material world.
I think that fire is the powerhouse of the cell
On topic of Elements and the periodic table: Chemists often abuse the word elements to appear smarter than they are.
The periodic table does not matter here at all. An element is just a unit of a set. If you have a set consisting of the Letters A, B, C and D, these would also be the elements of the defined set. The matter of how the set is defned, changes the definition of the element. Element has no meaning aside from the set it refers to.
Soulful background
I wouldn't mind longer videos on these subjects for a deeper dive. Always found these ancient ways of thinking incredibly fascinating.
Big shoutout to your founding video editor! They have a good sense of when to bring up images to complement what you are saying.
Thank you! It's great to work on these again. Getting a feel for it! :)
Studying Natural Philosophy is so much fun, dude
I was so invested and that "beautiful big cards" caught me so off guard 😂 you broke this down so well. Do you know how long it took me to research trying to figure all this stuff out on my own? And I still didn’t understand things this concisely until now. You're the best.
Would happily pay for an online tarot course by you in vid/lecture form :D
I think I kinda get it. In regards to Water flowing down and fire rising up I gained a new insight for one the cards. In Lust you see a woman ontop of a beast. The Woman, the feminime is the Water and she is slauching back having her Hair sink down. While the Beast is masculine, is fiery and raises his head and tail up. The two are in union and experiencing/ generating a sort of orgasmic bliss by completing each other.
What about doggy style
Love this video. I'd definitely recommend getting a reading with Chris he knows his stuff better than most.
This video is perfectly timed for me.. Very synchronistic 👏
Same here, I have been very interested in learning more about tarot recently
finally some good tarot content on youtube.
I love you. Thank you for existing 🖤
Now i get why Alan Moore is a Wizzard
I've been seeing many fun coincidences lately surrounding tarot, so I've been investigating the symbolism with full intent lately and this video is very timely for me. As of this commen will have to watch it later but I just wanted to say it had always just been largely in the background for me up until the last few weeks. One senior gentleman I knew revealed recently that he had been doing tarot readings for decades and attributes the information it reveals to his success in life. I can't remember why the topic came up and he didn't even strike me as the type.
8:00 I think I know why, but all I can do is try to visualise it in text form somehow lol.

The division 0 into 2. The doubling. Followed by counting the total places in each sequence which = 7. might be reaching but this symbol has supreme meaning to me.
would love for you to delve in depth into each of the major arcana.
Been waiting for this. Excellent.
I'm glad you made this. I've been watching you for the meme stuff, and I hardly know anything about Tarot cards. Wouldn't mind seeing more videos like this, maybe one on how to actually do a reading
Damn how are these videos deeper than so much of our internet media today. Used to watch all the political streamers and news giants. Your channel makes both of those establishment sound like a monotone meaningless drone, a feeble attempt for my attention. Your videos are a call to something older, something greater. Nice analysis dude.
An excellent video. Interesting for me especially was the suits as the 4 states of matter, something I never considered. I've always used Tarot with a narrative focus, I'd love to see more on Tarot with an elemental focus
Damn, this opening set is beautiful
Glad to see the esoteric content return :). Looking handsome as well ^-^.
This video just gave me an insight. I've been thinking mich lately about how whatever structure we impose to the world it builts itself around it. Which is why we must be very careful about what we choose to believe, here there is a need of certain will to stupity, of refusing who we are and building up what we should be. Thats just to say that to see the world through the unfolding of the four elements open up the doors to see it in a different way, once their interactions in all things become clear, not only the world becomes much more intellgible, but by a system of analogies we can connect seemly disparate things, thats where lies creativity.
Please more of these.
I've been trying to get into these topics lately but its so chaotic and filled with BS its really challenging for me.
Accurate, to the point information regarding occultism and tarot are of great value.
What to read? What decks to study? What do the symbols mean? What are their origin?
I second this. Really hard trying to find resources. RUclips seems to be filled with zoomer new age bs
The vibe is strong with this one
Wonderful video mr memeanalysis once again about ancient thought
As a Tarot reader this was awesome 😂
Looking forward to the I Ching video.

Wait, if franchises are comparable to tarot card, are tarot card readings an ancient equivalent to "which character are you" style quizzes?
Thank you very much for your nice explanation of the signs. I am a beginner so I have bought Lon Milo Du Quettes book now and will start reading it 😅. Have a nice day 🌺🌿
Honestly, your seemingly humble gift of the toth seems much more interesting and thought provoking than the flashy gibberish that is the crowley's tarot.
Crowley's tarot exclusively consist of giving too much power to the tarot in a way wich negate any true strength of the cards. I always saw it as it is, a farcical attempt to make the tarot cards everything, without realizing it's its universal simplicity of the evocationnal wich brings it's beauty.
The Marseille Tarot is beautiful, it is the one who was chiseled truly by time, by generation and generation, it is the one wich is truly a meme.
Who is Crowley to think he is pertinent in inversing strength and justice ? Strength isn't about the perfection of the ideals, it isn't about following the string of the spider we call History.
Strenght is about reality, it's about the process of understanding that you change the world by being changed by it, it's about a transformative process, that's why it's on the center of the deck, it's the center point of it all.
Yep, it's all charlatanism.
In the same way, to truly understand Tarot, you shall understand one thing : before everything, the Tarot IS the twenty-two, not the seven and the twelves and... No, the Tarot IS the most eminent cultural existence of the twenty-two in the western world, and that's what matters, the association with the hebrew letters is pertinent, but the point to write them on the tarot is quite childish, what's even the point of having the two then, it's not useful to make what the tarot is good at : an inscription in our psychic mind by the magic power of the image, not a shelf to arrange our little boxes in the head.
The world isn't "Saturn", the world is the world.
Maybe the tarot is a puzzle, truly a puzzle, but what's the point of making one who anyone did, and with everyone disagreeing, one of putting symbols together ? (Im' not speaking of your gift of toth, the radicalization of the idea make it something truly interesting, honestly)
In my book, the world isn't Saturn, it's a cute litlle dot, jumping, a puce with a magnifying glass in it's hand, the four animals across only being the egg, the caterpillar, the chrysalid, the butterfly. A puce, everything start by a puce.

I never knew that the symbol physicists use to denote qualities of the sun was that old or had a use elsewhere.
If you're still wondering why 7 and not 8 maybe it's because it's 3+4, the three modalities of the signs and the dry, moist, hot and cold thing
If you’re into Crowley & Jung, you will enjoy the Ra Material & the same concepts skinned in Christian terminology with the Researchers of Truth.
I recommend you read the Ra Material, and also the book The Magus of Strovolos.
Brush pens are hard to use as it is, this madman uses them at a 90 degree angle. Also, is the cool (full color) artwork on the Tarot card set that you sell? If so, the pictures on your website don't do it justice, the sample images look rather simplistic.

We need to get Chris in a Ancient Greek university.
7 planets to match 7 classical chakras, 7 classical heavens 7 days in a week, 7 deadly sins, 7 virtues, 7 seas, 7 ancient wonders, 7 phases of the moon, 7 seals, 7 continents, 7 colors of the rainbow the macro of the chakras.
All matter is positively and negatively charges. Positive and negative being arbitrary linguistic descriptions of some fundamental "duality" of matter.
THANK YOU
I miss chubby looking Chris, but I guess you’re more of a Chad looking wizard now so that’s okay
Something struck me when you mentioned the 4 elements (states of matter) and how they’re present within us and I tried to think of the biology of it.
Earth? Ok we’re made of dirt check.
Water? Ok we’re 70% water check.
Air? We breathe it so check.
Fire? Now that’s a tricky one maybe most people don’t have that until they’re ‘ignited’
Blood plasma. When you are passionate about something your blood starts pumping.
i got the deck because I enjoy the symbols; still don’t understand the spread
There are more than 4 states of matter, such as liquid crystal or neutron soup
You got the elements wrong. Fire is swords, earth is stones, air is cups, water is rods.
Going with Crowley, Levi, and the Golden Dawn. One would think Fire is Swords, but swords move through the Air, and the wood of wands burn. Idk how you imagine air is cups, water goes in a cup.
Best Video ever!

These triangles, how old are they?
This might be coincidental (and it’s definitely a bit of an incomplete though), but if you visualize the silhouette of a pyramid, you see a triangle, almost from any angle/distance and especially from eye level. Until recently, the base of the pyramids was somewhat underneath sand. The foundation is the bedrock. If you take the visual image of the triangle, the symbol for fire, and draw a line where you see the sand you get the symbol for air. If you imagine a reflection of the pyramid, you get the other two symbols for earth and water.
That is all wishful thinking and maybe misinterpretation. However, visualizing a pair of pyramids - one upright that is visible sitting on another representing its foundation - gives some insight into what I think they mean. They symbolize a civilization’s need for resilience. A structure built like a pyramid upside down obviously won’t last. What everyone sees in the Egyptian pyramids is the visible structure, but they forget the base or foundation which is arguably more important. To me, this foundation represents everything that was laid down to support the Great Work.
The next thing to visualize start with the empty site for a pyramid and imagine what it looks like as it’s being completed. I think the mystery of the pyramid is found here. Like any magickal work, there is what is meant to be known/seen and what is not meant to be revealed. While constructing the pyramid, depending on how its shape evolved over time, I think the experience of it as a symbol also changed.
Take the symbol for air where there is a slash through it and pop off the triangle: you get the symbol for fire, but also another half which resembles the incomplete pyramid. Same thing for earth, so you can recursively process these symbols.
That train of thought is a bit like trying to make sense of the revelations you have during a trip. It’s not logical at all really, but then again it seems very true … in a way.
Thoughts on the Prince -love symbol-?

We have to go deeper
I think the West went with 3 as its base instead of 2.
So you'd get 3-6-12 instead of 2-4-8.
But I'm not sure why we skip 6 though. Maybe because 6 is seen as unlucky or demonic? (666) So maybe 7 is seen as lucky because you're avoiding 6.
We skip 6?
The Hexagram (the Macrocosm) is a 6 point star. 6 is the reflexion of the 3 (God, the Trinity) down in the Abyss. 6 is perfection, in the Tarot all the 6 cards are good cards. In the Tree of Life, 6 is the Sun, the Tipheret center is where Christic beings live...
@@lov1ah thanks for the insight!
@@lov1ah The Hagal Rune
6 is the the carnal, the pleasure, the useless, from 1 to 5, there's an architectural necessity. With 6, there is none.
1 is the unique, it's the polymorphic one in which everything is comprised 🐙
2 is the openness of duality, of the other, it's the affirmation of possibilities, it's the difference 🦇
3 is the emanation, the first number to truly exist somehow, the one which appears as it is, for itself, not as an expression of a concept, bus as the concept of being it's own concept, it's threedom, it's equilibrium. 🐈⬛
4 is the continuity, the tentative of pursuing the scheme, it's the one who pose the base, who assure that three isn't the apex, but the splendid step to a world of diversity beyond polarity, it's the solidity of solidarity 🦫
5 is a cementing one, it's the closure of the process of identifying the first step of the infinite, it's the invisible one wich say I'm the first end there could be, I'm here just for establishing the others, I'm the sum of what we are, it's the question of consciousness and unconscious, of community. As Marx said "Well grubbed, old mole!" 🦯
6 is much more fishy, it's the act of adding once again something, but something truly useless, 4 is already the act of continuity, 6 couldn't be considered as a unknown experimentation and integration in the conceptual realm as such then, 6 is added just by pleasure, juste by the envy to keep the game, by curiosity, by pleasure, it's trying once again something which was already finished, wich could have been terminated, as such it is sin in itself, it is the choice, it is the number useful only by it's uselessness. The purpose as an absence of purpose.
Il y a anguille sous roche dit-on dans ma langue.
Then there's seven, wich is the act of keeping to play despite the fault, the uselessness, wich is bravoure in itself, wich is the first step of abnegation, wich is acknowledging our path, being proud of our mistakes and staying by it's side, it's about history, our story, it's the path of our romantic existence, being the playful heroe, of a not so false world, the serious tracker of reality.

I’ve got a question. If Mr. MemeAnalysis himself isn’t the one to answer it, that’s fine - I’ll engage with anybody.
Here’s the question: how am I meant to interpret this video? Is it literal? Is he suggesting that these cards are functioning tools that can predict events? Or is it all meant to be taken as a metaphor?
See, I’m what some would refer to as a materialist (admittedly, I’m not a fan of that term). I don’t believe in an “other-world” where spirits reside. I believe that my world is real, at least. Even so, I agree that tarot cards and religion have a certain value. What I can’t get behind are utter falsehoods. It appears to me that a lot of divination techniques from the past are really gambling at their core. People try to predict their fate from wrinkles on their palm or something and it turns out to be blind chance. They convince themselves of the legitimacy of these techniques due to confirmation bias.
I guess what I’m trying to say, is why do I need to look at cards to improve my understanding of the world? A scientist will prove their discoveries just by saying “look at that,” whereas these spiritual people will go on long-winded presentations that you have to be _in-the know_ to even understand.
Sorry for long comment. I’m not trying to be hateful or anything by the way, I just want to know.
It can be used for prediction yes
Fire Water Earth Wood and Metal
I recognize those as the Chinese classical elements but I don’t know what ordering that is. Typically I know the “days of the week” ordering which is Fire (Tuesday), Water (Wednesday), Wood (Thursday), Metal (Friday), Earth (Saturday), but there are other orderings.

Why is fire wands, and swords air - and not the other way around?
Wand is the primal form of a striking weapon; sword is the sophisticated/complex form of it. Nature is full of possible wands, whereas swords requires civilization to exist.
@@eeva1475 So swords are fire?
@@minakoaino3917 No they are Air, which is the limited=evolved form of the primitive energy of Fire.
You can start a fire by burning wands.
You can make the air hearable by the clear strike of a fine blade.
I think there are other tarot decks or books that correspond the suit of Wands with Air and suit of Swords with Fire. In the Book of Thoth, Wands are related to Fire. I think it has to do with an astrological interpretation! Like I could also ask, “Why are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius the Fire signs?”
