Have had many Rottweilers, have learned that their brains are wired different than most dogs. My first experience training a puppy taught me a lot about what NOT to do. They are different, so must be trained different. This video does an excellent job, and the technique works 100% of the time. It takes practice, and you must make the training positive and fun for the pup.

Recently there has been a couple of cruel and sickening comments left here so I have deleted them and blocked the user form posting any more of these comments. These videos are here to help any puppy/ owner to get a better understanding of how to teach basic and reliable exercises to their dog. I hope it continues.

Great training tips. Also really important to remember that the dog knows how to sit, come, lie down etc. What we teach is communication and cooperation. If the dog isn't getting it, the human isn't communicating well. It is up to the human to figure out how to fix that. Be prepared to train all the time and to spend lots of time with a puppy. Any behavior that is "bad" behavior is an opportunity to train! Be patient with yourself and your dog. Get help from a pro if you get stuck!

I have a 14 week lab retriever and when I walk him, he wont respond to treats, in fact he wont eat at all when he is outside, which is exactly how my former dog behaved. It is hard to reward him for his good behaviour.

    • @sidneyaarons

I let the puppy settle in first and allow him to get use to a collar. So around 10 weeks of age I'll introduce the leash.

  • @hixies5

make sure you see both parents and that they have excellent temperaments
so important...the better the temperament, the more trainable your dog will be.
apart from this, on `quality`, google the breed standard profile of the rottweiler . Correct feeding is all important with large breeds as puppies, too
as rottweilers are prone to a lot of diseases and degenerative joint issues as adults.
good luck , rottweilers are amazing companions

Find a treat that your dog likes then inch the dog forward. -the Rot in the video is a bit more energetic and free willed than yours. So you have to take slower and smaller steps.

I can't find a training treat my dogs like. ... except real cheese which of course isn't good for pups in any quantity and costs a blood fortune in Thailand anyway. But every store-bought treat I can find has failed miserably.
