I think it's not a bad translation, if not a bit literal with a few mistakes I caught. Like you seemed to confuse "kikoete" with "kikasete" at the end. Still, good job! Translation is hard and there's a lot going on in this song. I also like that it seems Ruki is singing about a woman he lost, but overall the language is genderless/somewhat feminine, so you could also interpret it as a bride marrying someone she doesn't want to, thinking about her true love. This is my take on it, but of course there are numerous ways to translate it depending on how poetic or literal you want to be. One Thousand Cranes your letter was full of indecipherable words face me, and let me hear it from your own lips it's hard to endure that white I’ll never get used to, and I hear only your sighs echo if I just knew the color of the sky, I could be saved I hope I can forget being unable to breathe someday, but it seems I don’t even have any strength left to wish it so if I sing “tomorrow, lying face down” it’ll be a sleep pricked with thorns my body, bound by restraints, even the mind seems to sleep the warmth on my cheek is gentle and makes me yearn the shadows I saw in the hazy void were those of warm-colored dreams my eyes reflected through you, should even a day come where I lose sight of you, will be forever burned in my vision on days when the sunlight filters through the trees, you won’t be there to lead me blurred white ripples and leaves me speechless tears fall down my face and land where? call my name hold me tightly until I break I’m scared to lose anything more than I already have where are you singing of me now? even if I cover my ears, I can only hear my irregular pulse echoing even the mind seems to sleep I can’t recall the warmth on my cheeks that should still be there the shadows I saw in the hazy void are those of a cold-colored reality a thousand very tiny paper cranes nestled themselves against your wish without even smiling back, during the final moments of my memories where I just counted your sighs… I heard your voice say, that morning I lost everything, “the two of us will never become one”
Thanks for your input! I worked really hard on this and at that time, I was struggling with Japanese. (But I am still struggling now because I haven't taken the language seriously the past 8 years... I wish I did but I have no motivation...) T-T I have updated versions and I wasn't able to update this since then. I think it's really hard to translate this because I really couldn't get what he means to say, especially with "utsubuse no asu". I don't get that at all. T___T I like your translation very much! Thanks for posting it here. I may just remove my translation on the CC once I regain access to this account. Thank you so much! --augen13schrei
As long as I remember they once mentioned in the interview that this song is about Kai secret admirer/? who gave him 1000 cranes origami when he is in hospital. But I forgot in which interview xDD
Japanese do this in their songs all the time. I don't know the reason though. He also says 体 (karada) while 身体 (shintai) is written in the lyrics. ----- This video just popped up in my recommended videos (god knows why). I remember listening to this song back in 2007 or something like that. I didn't speak a word of Japanese back then. Strange to listen to the same song many years later and all of a sudden understand the lyrics. Makes the song even better.

i'm way past my japanese fever from my puberty and my emo-attempted times, but i've got to admit that the gazette's songs are the best ones in j-rock/visual-kei/hard j-rock, i like how ruki doesn't force his voice too much and i just love some of their songs, they are very well composed and complicated. in my opinion, the best song so far has been Pledge, that's just awesome, then goes cassis, then this one, the invisible wall, guren, and...i'm pretty sure i'm missing some others that i really like...they are the only j-rock artist i still keep songs of from years ago

I always feel sad, angry and heartbroken because of the lyrics itself.. The moment she kneel down in the raging sea, I felt how depressing my life before but now is perfect. One Thousand Cranes
your letter was full of indecipherable words
face me, and let me hear it from your own lips
it's hard to endure that white I’ll never get used to,
and I hear only your sighs echo
if I just knew the color of the sky, I could be saved
I hope I can forget being unable to breathe someday,
but it seems I don’t even have any strength left to wish it so
if I sing “tomorrow, lying face down”
it’ll be a sleep pricked with thorns
my body, bound by restraints,
even the mind seems to sleep
the warmth on my cheek is gentle and makes me yearn
the shadows I saw in the hazy void
were those of warm-colored dreams
my eyes reflected through you,
should even a day come where I lose sight of you,
will be forever burned in my vision
on days when the sunlight filters through the trees,
you won’t be there to lead me
blurred white ripples
and leaves me speechless
tears fall down my face and land where?
call my name
hold me tightly until I break
I’m scared to lose anything more than I already have
where are you singing of me now?
even if I cover my ears, I can only hear my irregular pulse echoing
even the mind seems to sleep
I can’t recall the warmth on my cheeks that should still be there
the shadows I saw in the hazy void
are those of a cold-colored reality
a thousand very tiny paper cranes
nestled themselves against your wish
without even smiling back,
during the final moments of my memories where I just counted your sighs…
I heard your voice say,
that morning I lost everything,
“the two of us will never become one”
Ahhh by far the best translation I've found online so far :)
Jamie K. Right on!

Sama bro
2024 just randomly remembered
GAZEROCK is NOT DEAD FOREVER
Believe it or not, I start learning vibrato because I can't sing this part 1:10 back in the day.
its about two lovers who can't be together because one of them is dying and then dies at the end of the song

歌︰the gazette
作詞︰流鬼
作曲︰the gazette
Restraint
Even the mind seems to sleep
