Everyone pissing and moaning about the hat and calling him selfish for not selling it and donating to goodwill. Come on people, the entire point of Goodwill is for Goodwill to make money off donations they receive. They're really good about pricing and listing one their own Ebay. Let this guy with the goofy hat have his one good luck day. You don't know, maybe he has a kiddo needing college money or maybe he IS a kid needing college money. All this bitterness. He bought it because he recognized beauty. Maybe you all should take a look in the mirror at your salty selves.

The money goes to community programs for training, finding jobs, and educating those with disabilities or otherwise have trouble finding traditional ways of getting employment. Them themselves hire those with disabilities. Goodwill also funds an organization that helps people get their Diploma for free not a GED. They even pay for you to get a certification. No matter your age. I know this for a fact because I worked at Goodwill and even got my diploma and certification from them.

I very much enjoy seeing people being pleasantly surprised (thrilled?) by the value of something they bought or inherited or otherwise lawfully acquired. Now, do you keep it or sell it or ??? If an owner needs the money then sell it. If the owner really enjoys having it and isn't in a tight financial situation and has a good place to display it then keep it, insured. We almost all have things that have personal value to us and keep such things. Years ago, I had a friend who kept almost nothing. He "traveled light" and you wouldn't find yesterday's newspaper in his home.

I always hope that when people get these big appraisals that they sell the item right away (unless it has a lot of sentimental value, of course). When the crash of 2008 happened, the antiques market really tanked.

Rick: I’ll triple your money & give you $15 - that’s the most I can do.
I have to wrap it, buy a box, ship it to the auction who’ll take a big bite out of the profit & if it doesn’t sell, I’m stuck with it.

I worked for goodwill, one day as Donation Attendant an only person in back I get a donation. Older man tells me hes helping clean out his daughters garage, ok cool. Taking the stuff out he hands me a small lamp table automatically I noticed it had unusual weight to it, it was for as small as it was heavy a.f. At that moment I knew something was up with the table so get all the stuff, rest was junk, thank him, he leaves. I checked the table for any markings sure enough had some new york top designer mark on it. My manager put it on auction on the goodwill site with a roll of his eyes believing it wasn't going to go for much, he and the other managers ate that belief sold for like 350.
