    Video Description
    ~~~~~
    If you were sad to learn that the developer behind Simple Mobile Tools had sold their business, then today I'll show you a new set of simple, free and open source applications for Android that aims to take its place.
    For those who may be unaware of what happened, Simple Mobile Tools was the project of a developer whose goal it was to create simple, basic applications for Android that were not bloated with ads, nor were useful features locked away behind a monthly subscription.
    The community began supporting this developer more and more, and many talented folks even began contributing regularly to the open source project. A project that included a flashlight app, a calendar, a contacts app, an image gallery, an SMS texting application, a voice recorder and more.
    But, the popularity seemed to have gotten to the lead developer. . .or the money was just too tempting. . .because in December of last year it was confirmed that he would be selling it all to ZipoApps. A company that is well known for overflowing their apps with ads and locking even the most basic of features behind a subscription plan.
    And as you may have guessed, the community has not been very happy with this transaction. Which is very apparent with the negative reviews we see across almost all of their apps now.
    But after these last few months of disappointment, I finally have some good news to share with you.
    See, a developer that was on the team before they were acquired has recently launched Fossify, a new suite of free and open source applications for the community.
    These applications were forked from the Simple Mobile Tools counterparts before they had been acquired.
    So, if you enjoyed the Simple Mobile Tools version of the image gallery, SMS messenger, calendar, file manager, voice recorder, contacts list, music player, and phone app. . .you can now switch over to the Fossify version and pick up where you left off.
    These can all be downloaded from multiple sources including F-Droid, GitHub, or directly from the Google Play Store.
    There are more apps in the works, but as this is a new project for some new folks, then it may take some time before Fossify versions of all those apps become available.
    If you were a fan of the Simple Mobile Tool apps for Android, then definitely check out this new suite of apps and tell us all what you think down in the comments section below.
