I have seen em all and Charlie Batey was the best of the bunch. May God rest his soul Kid Ramos and Alex Shultz are beasts as well. Robbie Eason ( sp ?) and Hollywood Fats (God rest his soul) are MONSTERS in this style also......And yes Jr. Watson is purdy good too. The bands to see where Little Charlie and the Nightcats. The James Harman Band, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, The William Clarke Band all playing that wonderful west coast stuff.
I played in a band called the slam hounds on Maui 94-97...we covered ALL Bill Clarke stuff and Rod Piazza And the Mighty flyers...anything Stevie Ray Vaughn....Fabulous Thunderbirds and Little Charlie and the Night cats....our band featured a chromatic Harmonica Player Named Doyle Lacount....I was the only girl in the band..and the sexiest Bass player you ever saw..before it became popular for a female to fill a Black mans Bass playin shoes...I play old school bass funk blues with my fingers no picks..gotta feel it!...Now I play Meditation singing bowls another way to groove!....Love it all!
lol....with all respect...what all these cats are doing was done in the 40's...that's where they copped it from. It's all good. Charley Battey from "Little Charlie & The Nightcats" is the current kng of this style. I've seen all these guys & believe me he's the best.
