  • These Lentil Salsbury Steaks are easy to make, packed with protein and with the mushroom gravy, really delicious!
Here's the recipe to make this meal-
the recipe video for the Best Mashed Potatoes and Gravy:
    https: • Video
    Ingredients for the salsbury steak:
    2 cups cooked lentils
    1 cup chickpea flour
    1 cup breadcrumbs, vegan
    1/2 cup vegetable broth
1/4 cup amino acids or soy sauce
    1 tbsp smoked paprika
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    1 tbsp olive oil
    2 tablespoons nutritional yeast.
Make the mashed potatoes and gravy first by following the RUclips video above.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the cooked lentils. Using either a potato masher or fork, mash lentils until they are almost all mashed, leaving a bit of texture. Now add all the remaining salisbury steak ingredients to the Bowl except the olive oil, that is for cooking them. Start to stir to mix the wet and dry ingredients then using your hand continue to mix until fully combined. Then knead together the mixture, knead for few minutes until it forms a nice dough ball that isn't sticky anymore. The longer you need them, the firmer they will be. Now taking med-large balls of dough, roll then flatten to look like steak. Repeat until you have formed the all the dough into steaks. Heat the olive oil in a cast iron skillet or non-stick pan on medium-high. Now add the steak to the pan, as many as you can fit. You can do it in batches. Cook the lentil steaks on each side for 2 to 3 minutes until brown and cooked through. Remove the steaks from the pan, and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet to put into the oven on a warm setting. Start plating by adding the warm steaks, mashed potatoes, vegetables and then gravy over the top of your steak mashed potatoes and even veggies if you like. serve immediately.

Lentils are so versatile, love them! Since I don't usually buy bread or breadcrumbs, I subbed in quick oats, and added ground flax instead of the chickpea flour. I also added some aromatics (garlic & onions) and a spoonful of steak sauce for some kick, which ironically is vegan! The only problem was I used the link address above for the gravy and it said it was no longer available? Thanks for the inspiration, this will be a regular!

I only became a plant-based eater in the last 3 months…and I couldn’t be happier. I feel better, I’m eating better, and-most importantly of all, at least to me-I’m NOT responsible for animals being hurt. Can’t. Do. It.

Do you think I could use oat flakes instead of bread crumbs?
