You made me smile huge and with a genuine smaile as soon as you saidyou know why im happy abd then you laughed. Your laugh is a blessing to others.neverbknow what people are going through.
That is so nice, Thanks so much, yes so true, we should never be afraid to hug a close friend or just smile and say Hi to those you recognise when you are out, it may just make their day Love Carolyn
Miss Carolyn, you're like me, I too get excited over nice, healthy roots w/a new Phal. I want to mention that when you're putting the orchid up to the camera to show something, just bring the orchid up a little higher and it will be in perfect view because sometimes we miss what you mean for us to see. I don't want to miss any good info(lol), even though you always explain things so well. As always, you've posted a good informative and entertaining video so, thank you so much for taking the time n God bless you n Jack, too!😇
I know I used to take Mum out and we would have fun, now she has to stay in, at 96 would not like to see her catch it! It is good to have orchids to take our mind away from things. We still have a lot of empty shelves in all our stores, and have to line up outside the Bank to go in, and sometimes other places if too many people inside. :0( so yes it was a lot of fun and beauty to indulge in Love Carolyn
Found your banana peel remedy, and read about it before and like it, I have lots of banana peels so thought I would dry them, lay them out in the sun room, and powder them, to make a tea. just for occasional use. I believe not to fertilize unhealthy plants, as they will not absorb the nutrients readily, although super thrive and sea weed extract seem good. So I have it in my mail box, copied it and mailed it to my self :0) Thanks I found your note in the Spam ??? strange so click to ok it but do not know where it went, so luckily I saved the sight in my mail and thought to answer you here, as the other one, You tube sent it on a strange journey Love Carolyn
Your husband is so handy and you two seem to get along so well. Love that you say you’re happy because it starts our day off nicely. Hope you continue these vids. They’re such a nice distraction fr all the negative news on tv.
Thank you so much!! Yes he is 100% handy, and we both have our hobbies and enjoy the home life style. Done our share of travelling etc. and are happy to be retired, and just do as we please, not what a boss tells you to do Thanks for visiting and sharing your comments.
There is always room for more orchids! Nice purchases! We had 3 Schnauzers years ago - 2 Giant Schnauzers and 1 Miniature. The little one was the ratter. When we were sleeping one night, she went out thru the dog door and caught and killed a rabbit and dragged it back thru the dog door into the house! My husband woke up and tripped over it in the doorway to our bedroom! I was horrified! I know it’s part of the breed but being an animal lover, it was devastating! Be glad that Maggie is just all bark with no bite! She is a true Princess! Thanks for the video and hugs to all!
Oh my yes she is a bit of a chicken like me, ha ha I run from wasps etc, and she know I hate bugs, so if she hears one she takes off. Although many years ago, !!! I chased a cougar out of our chicken pen with a broomstick, can't say it was the smartest thing to do, but all ended well. So she just chases but does not catch, thank goodness. That must have been a scary encounter, for your husband. Love Carolyn
Nuts and bolts = new Orchids. 😊. The way I see it Carolyn.. you saved 2 more. I saved 1 yesterday too. Its pinkish orange with a yellow rim around the outside. It’s a petite. Less than $10. Best price. I couldn’t say no. It’s funny how you had that bark soaking ( you just never know when you might need it ). I really like your set up with the sink , very handy. I hope Maggie doesn’t catch whatever she’s chasing. 😳. Hugs for Maggie 💞. See you in the next video. P.S. if you need more pots.. let me know. 🤪
Those nuts and bolts kept him busy a long time, as I had a lot of trouble deciding the ones I wanted to bring home :0)))) Lucky they were not real cheep $20. but it was fun and there was a huge white one, there, and it cost more and I have a weakness for those big white ones :0) The sink I should have done many years ago, because I was spending a lot of time hauling water from the house when canning, but it is also better than bending over the tub bathing Maggie. She did not catch it, but let me know there was something about, and the neighbour said there cat caught 3 Yuk Rats. Never had them before, and wish they would go away. The bird feeder is a problem, but Mum likes to watch the birds, and her and Dad always did, so that stays :0) She can't go shopping anymore, because of the bug, so she needs the birds her puzzles and knitting. No Pots :0)) Not buying anymore, have toooo many, but am getting a weakness for Dendrobiums, we will see if I can flower them this year, and if so OH NO Fun Fun Fun Love Carolyn, and I always enjoy your comments
I was just looking for some information about replanting my store bought orchids and to my surprise I also find this channel. You ma'am get automatic memaw status
So nice of you LOL Funny I was thinking I heard that term before and can not quite remember where, some one on t.v. used it I think, Than I saw the comment next and had a good Laugh Love Memaw Carolyn
I also repot all my orchids as soon as I get them. My phals & cattleyas are repotted into leca balls. My dendrobiums & paphs are in bark &terrestrial orchid mixes. I've never had my blooms or buds blast because of repotting. Totally agree with you about larger pots as well.👍
Thanks Gabriele, I have found the bigger pot seems to encourage a lot of root growth and air supply to those roots is better also. That in turn More Leaves I thought about leca when having trouble with getting bark, so for now I am stocked up, and hate to change my routine that seems to work for me Love Carolyn
You need to keep doing what works for you. Don't change what works. Leca works for me but I know it won't work for everyone. As I mentioned, some of my dendrobiums & oncidiums are kept in bark which works better for them. My paphs &jewel orchids are in a fine bark terrestrial mix & they seem to thrive in that👍
Never tire seeing you do a repot! It’s something I enjoy doing, too! Your new finds are lovely, and of course the sewer pipe is perfect. Glad you made it a good shopping experience. Hugs, Mary Ann
Wonderful! I find it so wonderful and in winter here that can be long, it is fun to watch spikes come and flower and before you know it winter has passed. Love our orchids Carolyn
You and your husband are geniuses. Start thinking about making these kind of pots for sale. I really enjoy the rustic/practical side of it. Something to think about
Hey thanks, we love to use things, some one else might be throwing out, or just be a little creative with some pots, because we have time, and are retired Love Carolyn
Love your videos! I'm a huge fan of bark.....I use a mixture of bark, perlite, and charcoal on my phals. I have them in a plastic container with holes all around, and I use a terracotta pot as a decorative pot. Have a lovely day 💚🌱🌸
Also bought a grocery store Orchid Friday. Made me smile under my mask! There was only one magenta with cream center. I could not leave it there. I can see you are having fun with your orchids today. They look wonderful.
I wish I’d watched your video before I just repotted my two orchids. I used the bark mixture but I didn’t know that I should have soaked my bark first. After I got it in the pot though, I sat the pot in a bowel of water, (pot has holes in the side) and let it soak for a couple of hours. I hope they survive my newcomer mess-up!
What you did sounds good. I have found if you soak the bark for 3 days with one tsp calli magic and one tsp sea weed extract, less shock when changing from moss to bark They should be fine though Love Carolyn
I learned from you once again! I'm going to pick up pots similar to yours. Another beautiful top. You always look so nice. Sending you Hugs 🌞💞👸🌸🐦 Always look forward to your videos. It is so hot & humid here & will be for 6 more weeks...ugh!!! The a.c. is on 75 & orchids are getting filtered light through SW window. I have 3 orchids that look really nice . I have them grouped together on a little table near the kitchen window. The moonglow is still blooming. The other 2 orchids have new leaves but after watching your video I think they need bigger pots.I'm watering twice a week now. And leaving ceiling fan on in the adjoining room to circulate the air. I enjoy orchids so much I think I'm going to soak bark & buy 3 orchids for my bedroom. Thank you for making videos so others can enjoy growing orchids. XOXO
This is so interesting comment, Thanks. Groupings are good as it helps them creat their own mini environment. Less trouble with pots drying quickly if they are bigger, and I have found roots grow to fill the pot and than many leaves follow, Love Carolyn I found ceiling fans a big bonus
Wow, thank you! I never did that well in school. typing, thank-goodness and probably even better now answering comments, thankful for that. cooking sewing literature, flunked at grammar, skimmed through and graduated, so not a great teacher, but love sharing the fun things in life Love Carolyn
Everything you SHARE is a loving teaching moment. It makes a huge difference to your friends out here. Know it. Believe it. Because we NEED it right now.
Your new orchids are really pretty!!! Thanks for sharing your process of repotting...I also do that. I think it has saved many orchids from rotting. Have a great week!!!
Thanks Terry it was fun and as all the other orchids are flowerless, nice to have some in bloom in the house. I am still smiling at my mini holiday, so cheap holiday, and still very enjoyable Love Carolyn
Thanks so much She is ok, and too much of a chicken to get to close :0)))) she gets that from me, although many moons ago :0) I remember chasing a cougar out of the hen house with a broom :))))) it was a little one Love Carolyn
I forgot you said you were going to have another sink. I was wondering why things looked different and then you mentioned your new sink. I love the look of it. I can imagine how much use you’ve already got and what good use you will have. 👍
For sure! should have done this years ago, and it will save a lot of steps hauling water from the kitchens in canning season! The house stays so much cooler, doing this out side. Love Carolyn
lovely arrangement. Really artistic. watched this video from home kitchen today as usually daytime in in the office. gets pretty boring at home when you are used to going out every morning. we have been working from home so today you kept me company as i was doing some tomato sauce with our own organic soil . so I'm hydrating the cherry tomatoes and making sauce from the bigger ones Again i tell you this are angement is really artistic made from the soul. love it. xxxxxx
Sounds like what I will be doing soon, we have eaten some but not enough to preserve yet. Hopefully for all the young people growing up this will not last too long, maybe as you age you learn to accept some things, hard as it is, but to be young and full of energy and curiosity it must be difficult. Love Carolyn
Nice repotting video☺️. Thank you for sharing your happiness and your orchid joy. Think I'll have to try and use pots with more holes and ventilation for my orchids. I spent yesterday repotting may orchids out of plastic and into terra-cotta pots. A couple of them seem to be doing well on plastic, so I'll leave them for now.
Love you new space Carolyn, Jack does good thing's for you. I Love that. I'm sure you Love it as well. Looking forward to catching up on your videos. God Bless. Oh, how is your Mom doing. Hugs from Michigan Roxanne 😇
Thanks for your thoughtfulness! Mum is doing really good, but we keep her home, so she misses her outings, but at 96 it is better, she has puzzles and knitting etc. and is happy, that is the main thing. Yes Jack always is thoughtful, and much appreciated by Mum and I Picked up a free ceiling fan on the side of the road today, it is quite a beauty and is headed for our bedroom, as weather here has turned very hot! Thanks again Love Carolyn
Wow, thank you!We do love playing ! Just fixing up the chicken wire lady that rides the bike in front of property, giving her a back bone and in winter the snow blower is hard on her and the ice Love Carolyn
I find it very interesting the different shapes to the orchid leaves. ... some are Lance shaped and some are like huge paddles. ..and some are more oval.
We must smile and have some fun when we can, and I love sharing and visiting in the comment section, so that is my escape from this strange reality Love Carolyn
I will be curious as to whether you should have weighted the pot with a few rocks because with the bloomsit looks top heavy... i love those new. Orchids... and how lucky to have that wonderful set up in your porch for canning
Actually the pot is very weighted plus with the added glass, no chance of tipping :0) The canning room should have done it years ago, saves so much time, and no heating the house up! It has been over 100 Far last few days and looks the same a week forward. It changes fast, you have to go out early in the morning to do chores and than stay in till evening :0) Love Carolyn
Oh.... I was at Lowe's and they had bag baby orchids. ...they had been there for a month so i asked for a discount and the manager gave them to me for 5$ each instead of 15$..... so i bought 5! I am thinking of buying more! They are Cattleya.... I repotted them in clay pots and bark that has some Coco coir and some charcoal and pumice. ... I added some more charcoal and pumice...... I am going to treat them like my phalaenopsis. ...soak in nutrient solutionjust like my phalaenopsis. ...ihave a few from this spring or last fall. ...and a dendrobiam....they are doing welll.....
Well glad you are having fun and lots of new ideas! I am getting interested more in dendrobiums, but waiting to see if they flower this year, as still learning Love Carolyn
Hi Carolyn, Lovely vedio. Thanks for sharing . You seems to be very happy. I love to see more of your vedios. I'm new subscriber to your channel from Sydney Australia. We have mid winter here now. I'm a beginner to Phalanopsis orchids. I have repotted some of my large phals with leca pebbles and little bit of spagnum moss one month ago. They are doing well. Others I have repotted with orchiata bark and spagnum moss. As a beginner I was cautious about changing potting media from spagnum moss to bark only. See how I go with these set ups in my environment. My mini phalanopsis i tried in semi hydro with leca medium. It didn't work fo me. I lost some roots. There was fungi issue on one plant and some roots lost and it was dehydrated. It in the seaweed solution in semi water culture to recover the orchid. I'm learning orchids with trial and error basis. Your vedio gave me confident to use straight bark media from moss. Have a great day Sue
Hi, You mentioned that sometimes when you repot the store bought orchid , you find a little basket in the center of root area. I have one of those. I wasn’t sure what to do so I cleaned all around and left the basket in place. I repotted the orchid. That was only a year ago. Now roots are coming out holes and everywhere. Should I repot again and should I remove the little basket this time? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for this video.
Hig Peggy! Thanks for comment. I have never had one with a basket, but most people do remove them. Sounds like your orchid is happy :0) If you left moss inside basket that should come out I found orchids that are established, and sometimes attached to a pot Dislike being removed. Lately for my orchids with lots of roots, I just shake old bark out and put new in Shake and Shake till in Good shape. The new orchid from www.osmicplants.com They have lots of information on their site and . seems like a lot of good advice. The roots love air supply and I let mine e wild and free, now there are times I have wrapped escaping roots along the surface of the pot. Love Carolyn so if pot is clean it would not hurt to leave it. They have killed some subscribers orchids that did not see it when moss left inside
@@jacolynsorchids1361948friends Thanks for the quick response Jacolyn. I will definitely check out the suggested website. Yeah, the orchid seems to be doing well. Although she does seems to be pushing out of the pot as well. I guess I’ll take it out of current pot and if all the roots inside look good, I’ll just leave the little basket and stick her back into a slightly larger pot. Hope she survives! Thanks again.
This video is so informative. I bought a 4 inches Tying Shin black Bear from a grocery store. It’s blooming right now. I want to repot it. What pot size should i get for my 4 inches orchid? Thank you.
Size of pot ? so much is part of your cliamate and growing conditions. Sounds like fun, I would say smaller pot, but with me to hot and dry most of time, better with not too small. Love Carolyn
May I ask some questions about orchids? There's so much info out that I'm super confused and though I gleaned a few basics I'm at a loss with how to begin the process of rescuing. I will explain if you message back
Yes it was the shade cloth does not reach that far on the ceiling so a little more sun falls there. I was dressed for it, and the humidity has been higher than normal because of wet Spring and wet early summer. Looks like summer is really here now though Love Carolyn
Thanks for the video you always make my hmm here is 00.48 so we say my day ! I have cut off nearly all the blooms of my orchids u fortunately I lost two as I saw they were not right Noticed that the roots had black spots So I think it was sick I cleaned it and put in water do you know the next day I saw little worms swimming in there Did this ever happen to you So I immediately chucked them in the bin I was so sad for the rest of the week Now I sure have to replace them Lots of love stay safe xx 💕
Yes replace them. Once when I had the cymbidiums outside all manner of things were in the media, so changed the pot, but the others do not spend anytime outside, but in the screened in porch. Ants get in and I put a couple of those little tins down to see if that helps Love Carolyn
As soon as I bring a new plant in the house, I soak my bark about 3 days with a little sea weed extract and callimagic. Than the Re Pot. All these years never lost all flowers, once in a while the odd bud or flower, but seldom. Good drainage and and air circulation helps take place with bark as air travels in the small areas Love Carolyn
I know, Michelle, since we retired, we always go out together, and just have the one car, and it is a Vibe and getting old. So for me this little burst of freedom was like a Major Holiday for most people and a very happy one when I found orchids on sale :0)
If you buy orchiata bark you don’t have to soak it, or repot as often, even if it’s double the price of other bark it’s worth it’s you only repot half as often! ❤️
I have read about this, and I know some greenhouses are now using it. This bark even though it brakes down quicker, it does create a lot of beneficial fungus in the pot and I repot every 2 to 3 years. If I could not find the Fir bark I might have changed Carolyn
Did you say rat? Geez hope Jack has a trap, I would crap if I saw a rat in my yard lol. I’m thinking I’d love another orchid, just not a mini, big phals are the way to go, haven’t seen any in stores yet :(
I did this is something we have never had here before, but the neighbors cat has caught 3 and we set some traps, but have not caught any :0( So Yukky! If Maggie smells them she is relentless, but she is smart enough to stay at a distance, just letting me know she smelt something. We have two stores, that got orchids recently (just phals) and the other store if you are not quick they have spider nests and ugly things, so Save On seems to be it. When company came they took center stage! Love Carolyn ps true about the minis, I have a few but prefer the big ones also
I repot my first orchid the other day. I screwed it up, I did it three times. First report the plant was super floppy. Second time I realised I used the wrong pot. Third time out partner helped me but we snapped a few roots :'(. I cried because I felt like a failure and I feel like she might die.
Oh my, that was an experience. Not to worry, they can grow new roots from older roots that are broke, and they are a lot hardier than you think. Just do not over love it :0) and in a month or so just check the pot to see how it is doing, Love Carolyn
It would have been great if we could actually see the roots of that orchid and not the leaves and your hand. I think your video would’ve been very informational, but I couldn’t see half of it, minimally to see what routes I needed to be looking for to trim.. maybe you should watch your video before you post to the Internet and see exactly what we are seeing, perhaps you do this, but your instructions, good as they were we’re not good enough for me being a newbie.
I struggle with this, and sorry to ruined it for you, I have no modern equipment and some one to operate, so never enough hands and always in wrong place. Will try to fix as best as I can Love Carolyn
Im so glad I found your video! Great information, and you are just the cutest!!! 🪴💖
Thank you so much!!
Awww she's so cute and sweet and funny. Just found you video. Got my 1st orchid about a month ago. Terrified. Ha. Thanx for your video.

Love the new orchids.🌾🌾, and the pot...,on to the next video....hope Maggie is ok..
Thanks so much She is ok, and too much of a chicken to get to close :0)))) she gets that from me, although many moons ago :0) I remember chasing a cougar out of the hen house with a broom :))))) it was a little one Love Carolyn
Thank you Jacolyn! I learned so much from your video!! I’m a beginner and feel so much more confident now. 💜 You’re so much fun to listen to.
You are so welcome! Carolyn I have fun too !
Really artistic.
watched this video from home kitchen today as usually daytime in in the office.
gets pretty boring at home when you are used to going out every morning.
we have been working from home
so today you kept me company as i was doing some tomato sauce with our own
organic soil . so I'm hydrating the cherry tomatoes and making sauce from the bigger ones
Again i tell you this are
angement is really artistic made from the soul.
love it.
Tera cotta is good in very humid conditions and generally holes in plastic pots liberal so gasses can exchange Love Carolyn.
Wow, you are so creative! I love it!
Yes, I know maybe some the species makes a difference, and others the healthy of the plant, some just grow so much faster than others. Love Carolyn
Terrific job!!!👍😊
Thanks Love Carolyn
💚
I love to rescue phals from the grocery and big box stores and save them from the trash. They don't keep them very long in those stores.
No and here they get watered way too much Love Carolyn
This really makes me happy!
One hundred beautiful orchids on the wall, one hundred beautiful orchids, if one should accidently fall, run back to the store and buy them all.
LOL :0)))))) Yea, should say that to some pictures on the community channel You are funny! Carolyn
Hi Jocelyn do you live in Canada,I like your orchid there beautiful keep it up
Yes we live in the Interior of B.C. Canada, a place named Salmon Arm, on the Shuswap Lake and surrounded by Mountains Carolyn
Hi Carolyn,
Lovely vedio.
Have a great day
Sue
Thank you
May I ask some questions about orchids? There's so much info out that I'm super confused and though I gleaned a few basics I'm at a loss with how to begin the process of rescuing. I will explain if you message back
Please explain Love to help Love Carolyn
It was 93 degrees when you were working there? You looked cool as a cucumber.
I have cut off nearly all the blooms of my orchids u fortunately I lost two as I saw they were not right
Noticed that the roots had black spots So I think it was sick I cleaned it and put in water do you know the next day I saw little worms swimming in there Did this ever happen to you
So I immediately chucked them in the bin I was so sad for the rest of the week Now I sure have to replace them
Lots of love stay safe xx 💕
Yes replace them. Once when I had the cymbidiums outside all manner of things were in the media, so changed the pot, but the others do not spend anytime outside, but in the screened in porch. Ants get in and I put a couple of those little tins down to see if that helps Love Carolyn
💖🌺🌱
Thanks for coming to visit, saving another orchid from death Carolyn
Jacolyn where are you purchasing your bark?
I order it from Buckerfields and they order it in for me. Rexius fir Bark from Eugene Oregon nicely cleaned and heat treated Carolyn
Is it ok to change from moss to bark right away? Also, what type of bark do you use? Love your videos
@jacolynsorchids1361948friends Thank you, that is very helpful. I would very much like to try growing an orchid, your videos really help!
Hope you find the perfect beauty to start your journey Love Carolyn
It’s great.....never send us into a grocery store alone
I know, Michelle, since we retired, we always go out together, and just have the one car, and it is a Vibe and getting old. So for me this little burst of freedom was like a Major Holiday for most people and a very happy one when I found orchids on sale :0)
❤💚💚💚💚💚
Thanks a lot for comment and thumbs up :0) Love Carolyn
You are just too cute!
LOL thanks Carolyn
So true say the word bath and they run
Maggie will try and run, and if Jack says get in there she slowly goes hanging her head, she is so sweet and funny Love Carolyn
Hahaha you are so funny Love fatal errors
Me too RoseMarie, I never knew they were going to be on sale, but I had a lot of fun, a nice mini holiday, of sorts! Love Carolyn
👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for visit
