Mr. Arthurson disappointed me back in mid 80’s He killed off Foundation clubs of Newtown Jets & Western Suburbs Magpies to make opportunities for Illawarra, Canberra & Newcastle. For me he should’ve relocated those proud historical clubs to the areas of greatest need & expansion. But in saying that he fought for the survival of the game and it’s continuing force today. I’m glad Brisbane Broncos are getting their just reward by having Dolphins introduced. All Brisbane Broncos legends are talking about how they love Queensland rivalry well good for them to keep living a lie. Hope Broncos get their just recompense now and hope they introduce Ipswich Jets and Burleigh Bears to competition. In time they’ll be merging with NSW counterparts in Newtown & North Sydney shared representation or recognition of both clubs and a shared Jerseys all in heartland of Sell Outs Broncos.

@@clevelandwilliams5922 thanks for your comment. The demise of Newtown was slightly before my time but I'll take your word on the reasons for it. I do miss the Bears and would also love to see Newtown back in some form. To be honest I don't like the idea of any Sydney club making way and I have no love of interstate teams and wouldn't care for their demise.

Titled "Super League a must " the October 4th 1984 edition of Rugby League Week featured an interview with then Queensland Rugby League chairman Ron McAuliffe.
In the interview with Tony Durkin , Ron McAuliffe brought to light a proposal to expand the then NSWRL competition with several new teams. McAuliffe's plans were for what he described as a "Super League" with 12 clubs from across NSW and Queensland.
A few short years after the Broncos came into the comp , Paul Morgan breathed life back into the Super League concept , bringing it up before the SL War .
The fools from up north were emboldened to run with the idea after the Broncos came into the comp .
As far as Paul Morgans comments at the 8 minute 50 mark , what else did they want to go their way ? Talk about privilage . They had advantage over every club from the git-go.
They dwarfed every other club in the comp by a factor of ten in relation to having a city ( Brisbane) with a population of 1.3 million as their player and financial pool .
They soaked up the best players from Brisbane and the surrounding areas and as time went by became a virtual state club with support from the financial sector , fanbase and what not .
Greed was the offshoot of their massive egos and their persecution complex regarding their relationship with NSW folk also drove their wagon.
    Couldn't leave a good thing alone .

I loved watching Ribot as a player. As an administrator he (and the Broncos generally) took the game (at its all-time peak) to near its deathbed. With promises (lies) of rugby league being watched throughout Asia.
Aussie Rules was the only sporting beneficiary of their actions.

all I can remember from those days when the Super league war was on is my good friend at that time who was the Cronulla Captain Andrew Ettinghausen and Canberra's Laurie Daley going into the secret talks with Super League and now because of the book that was released last year, I know why my club joined that failed competition because Shane Richardson was the CEO of the Cronulla Sharks and he was going around doing some of the heavy lifting for Rupert Murdoch who wanted to put the game on Foxtel talking to the clubs and talking with players. I know he did some of the talking at least thank goodness the game in somewhat of a better place today .I say somewhat because clubs then after the NRL had formed talked about merging thank goodness my Sharks who I support didn't go down that avenue with St George I know the Sea Eagles had a very uneasy meger with North Sydney in the earliest days of the NRL. It was a very turmultous time to be a Rugby League supporter

@@graguitar6493 The foundation clubs should’ve had automatic representation on the administrative board of NSWRL. That means Newtown wouldn’t have been axed and would’ve been reintroduced as part of expansion model. Secondly the way to shut up the too many Sydney clubs crowd is to redraw the boundaries to clubs prior to 1921. Then you’ll see all supporters definitely shut there mouths.

Ken Arthurson and all the Philip st crew were jealous of the Broncos' success and wouldn't adapt to change. Rupert Murdoch's Super League was a great idea that payed players what they deserved but was executed poorly. The ARL had too many Sydney clubs and couldn't remove some of them. Definitely someone who either wasn’t around, or didn’t pay attention when all this actually happened. Truth of the matter is Rupert Murdoch nearly destroyed the game because he was determined to get a sport for pay tv, no matter what the cost was. He didn’t understand the game or the fan base one bit. The only good thing to come out of the Super League war was that the Super League season only lasted one season. If it went for a second, there’s a very good chance the game would have collapsed.

Definitely @mightyknight wasn’t around then, the comment is misinformed. The sheer greed of the Broncos and News Ltd almost killed the game. ARL were initially interested in the super league concept and had a long term plan for rationalisation. Murdoch didn’t want to wait to bid for the tv rights in 2000 as Pay TV launched in 1995, so he tried to steal the game, almost killing it off in the process and eventually resulting in the destruction of clubs, like my Steelers, because of the sudden and seismic shift in player salaries.

That’s what it’s like when you have Narcissists running anything. Then insult is they tell you in in house company training is Narcissism is a mental illness. So if that’s the case, would they allow a person with Schizophrenia to run a multi million or billion dollar turnover business. Once again excuses to cover up and continue doing what they do best, being pieces of turds.
