Gotta agree with Mr Chad here. Bún riêu & Cơm tấm is freaking underrated. As a Southerner living in Hanoi atm watching this video has been a punishment.
Great edit, beautifully shot, good info, not too over the top. Just perfect street food review. Well done. I shunned my mom's bun rieu and canh bun when I was a kid because I didn't like crab/seafood but I 'm going to have to give it (and mam tom) another try.
Really loving your content. Makes me miss Vietnam so much and I can't wait until we come back to visit again. Keep up the good work. Please give us some more colab with other favourite RUclipsrs in VN like Max or Chris. Would love to see you guys eating together like a big family.
Bún riêu is my mothers favorite dish, she cooks it everytime I come see her, I have accustomed to it now since I've had it so many time. Canh bún looks delicious too, I definitely need to try it when i come back to Vietnam
Can you please post the addresses of these shops! Love all your videos and I need to make a list of places to go when I visit. I agree. Bun Rieu and Com Tam are incredible and totally underrated in North America.
Com Tam is not hard to find in my city in Canada. Bun Rieu is at some restaurants, but not every place has a good version. I will definitely have to try Canh Bun. I've heard that in North America we miss out on a lot of vitamins in meat because we tend to prefer the "premium cuts" and avoid organs and other parts. Also we waste unlike other parts of the world like Asia and Europe where the whole animal is eaten.
Fun fact: Bún Riêu was featured in a Master Chef episode a while ago as a recreating challenge since Gordon Ramsay has it on a boat from an auntie in one of Mekong floating market.
What does the Pork Blood taste like? As an American it's hard for me to wrap my mind around it being eaten in dishes, but I'm very curious about the taste and texture.
It really doesn't taste like anything, it's more for texture than anything else. If you can get over the idea of eating it, you'll be fine as it's not an offensive taste (although I'm not a fan, per se). Now...try the blood sausage. THAT I absolutely LOVE because of all the herbs used in it. I love the chao (congee) made with it...mmm!!
Hey Chad, here’s an idea for your future videos. Try and make ‘thịt bì’ from scratch. The meat is so versatile and could be incorporated into many Vietnamese dishes. I am sure you already know that by now so it wouldn’t be a waste of your time making it. Also, you can control the amount of pork skin in ‘thịt bì heo’.
When I was a child and living in France in the country, our neighbours (farmers) after killing a couple of pigs, used to bring us a big portion of steamed blood to which they had added some parsley.
Hi Chad. I just wonder has it ever bothered you when sitting and enjoying your food on the street that vehicles go pass right next to you probably blowing all that dust right into your bowl?
The portion of ‘Cơm tấm bì’ in Vietnam are more generous than in the United States. In the U.S. they cheat you with ‘bì.’ They would give the customers very little meat and a lot of pork skin.
Does that lady really work from 6am-9pm? I hope she has help and takes lots of breaks. So many female entrepreneurs in Vietnam who usually have children also -- how do they do it? I get the feeling daycare isn't too common there since the kids often seem to be around.

Canh Bun and Bun Rieu should be our national dishes, not Pho. But that's just me who's more obsessed with those. Especially with mam tom!

Green tea?? Can you get brown tea like in the South (US)
You can get Lipton, but it’s not free and certain vendors sell it
