Just a point of observation. Having watched American politics for decades the movement rightward has been something both parties have done. The dynamic as I see it is starting with Reagan, the Democrats, in order to stay politically relevant, moved rightward which pushed the Republican party further right to stake out new positions to differentiate from the Democrats, who continued moving rightward to gain political wins. As the whole system inchwormed its way rightward eventually conservatives, who had cultivated a hateful bigoted 30% of the American electorate base, had nowhere else to go but deep dive fully into their formerly dog whistled hate rhetoric which is where we are. I wish the Democrats hadn't fallen for the bait to move right. I'd like to think had they stayed true to working class values and FDR New Deal ideology eventually the American people would vote for them again after the fever dream of Reagan and Bush went away.
