I always thought it was a meta-joke because James Marsden (Criss Cross) was always typecast as the romantic false lead in movies such as X-Men, The Notebook, Superman Returns, and Enchanted; where he'll play the first boyfriend/lover/fiance before the female lead decides her heart belongs to someone else and leaves him. So what better way than to cast James Marsden as Liz's last boyfriend and the one she settles down with.
btp248 I don’t know. I thought they were perfect less because he was mild, more because he was cheerful and an optimist whereas Liz is naturally cynical and pessimistic. They’re both nerdy and dorky so it’s not like opposites attract, more like they have weaknesses that are complimented by the other person and strengths that are shared. I thought every couple on this show (Jenna/Paul, Angie/Tracy, and even Jack/Avery until they wrote Avery off the show because she was doing movies) found their own perfect, weird love. Each couple was in love in a different way and just found what worked for them. It was beautiful.
Criss cross was a terrible match or cast for Lemon . They didn’t even look right together. I think Floyd was her best bF and best cast but the arc took him to Cleveland . Dennis was the funniest by far .
