      Thanks so much! I've been doing The Middle Age for four years and I'm still trepidatious as I hit the 'publish' button. I think, if we really pour our hearts into these, it's only natural that we're concerned about how each episode is received. Just remember that most readers are rooting for us. They want us to do well. Jerks will be jerks and we're not creating webcomics for them. :)

    For help with posting often, I highly recommend not posting your webtoon episodes right after you finish them and save a few episodes for buffers! I know it's tempting to upload right when the episode is completed but save a few! It's nice to have a few episodes completed so you can schedule them for steady upload schedule, and even to have some ready for weeks when you get busy and can't finish comic work as easily. When I was a Canvas creator, I had an unsteady freelance work schedule outside of my comic so I'd make batches of 5 episodes and then post when I finished the 5th one. Then I'd get to working on the next 5 while not having to worry about uploading. I'm currently an Original creator and I have a 10-13 week buffer in case something ever happens so I'm not scrambling or needing to go on hiatus to catch up. Find what works with your life but having a few saved will help keep a steady upload schedule!

      Philip, hi! I checked out Clover and Nugget and the cover art is adorable! I've subscribed!
      Another recommendation regarding Genre (which I didn't have time to mention because I felt the video was already getting a bit too long), is that you should consider including at least one of the main Genres (Comedy, Fantasy, Romance, Slice of Life, Sci-Fi, Drama, Action, or Superhero). The two Genres you've selected (Animals and Heartwarming) are initially hidden from view under "Others.' If you choose, say, Comedy and Animals, you'll get in front of a lot more people. Definitely something I'd suggest trying.

    This was really helpful! I'm going to start experimenting with posting times once I see my well of new subscribers dry up for my current. one. (At the moment, I'm still picking up a few subs with each post.)
    The one thing which I slightly disagree with is about posting frequency and episode length. Yes, you want to post more often rather than less, to get on the top of those lists; but it's worth considering genre and audience reading preferences as well. I've had a couple of my readers approach me to say they love my comic, but they really wish I'd post once every two weeks, so I can double the length of the episodes. They want to be immersed in the tone of the story, and single-page updates just aren't able to provide that for them. (My comic is a sci-fi/fantasy/action.) I've noticed I tend to enjoy medium-length episodes far more as a reader as well.

    • @SteveConleyArt
      @SteveConleyArt  3 года назад +2

      Thanks, Kaydreamer! I very much respect that choice about longer episodes - the Webtoon culture definitely favors that approach. If I were a faster cartoonist, I'd produce longer episodes for sure. :D

    • @SteveConleyArt

      Brian, I started graphing how long each post appeared on each Genre front page and found that I could, after it dropped off the Comedy front page, switch the comic's genres to a less popular genre and the comic would instantly appear in reverse-chronological order in the new Genre section. In the end, I don't think it would result in more readers since Genre is really about reader expectations - likely the subject of another video.

Or, do you have any advice about using social media to advertise your comic?
